SPECIAL 25TH BIRTHDAY ENEWS FROM METRO SCREEN ON THE 19th SEPTEMBER 2006 IT’S OUR BIRTHDAY BUT WE ARE GIVING YOU THE PRESENTS. To help celebrate our silver anniversary we are holding a series of events that kicked off last Friday night with a screening and exhibition of the DigiBytes competition finalists via Blue Tooth at the Chauvel Cinema. The celebrations continue tonight with a free industry panel on Post Production at 6.30pm followed by two more events leading up to the party this Friday night. WEDNESDAY NIGHT SONY HD MASTER CLASS Learn everything you need to know about HD with High Definition experts Pieter de Vries ACS and Max Bourke for an HD Master Class featuring Sony HD cameras. This Master Class offers a rare opportunity to hear from Australia’s leading HD cinematographers and to see for yourself the possibilities that HD offers for your next creative project. Pieter and Max both have extensive experience of shooting with Sony’s HD equipment. During the Master Class they will introduce a variety of HD cameras including the XD Cam and auxiliary equipment to the group and demonstrate a range of shooting techniques to optimise results and impact. There will also be a chance for participants to ask questions and receive project-specific advice on post-production pathways. The Master Class will focus on the Sony HD cameras’ creative potential as well as their technical specifications with Pieter and Max screening excerpts from past projects to demonstrate what can be achieved. COST: $75 | $60 members PLUS FREE SCREENHUB MEMBERHSIP VLAUED AT $77 THURSDAY NIGHT FILMMAKERS STUDIO PRODUCER OF THE SEMINAL FILM THE BOYS Get up close and personnel with Robert Connolly best known as the director and writer of the feature films Three Dollars and The Bank, and the producer of the award-winning film The Boys. Plus see the first clips to be seen in public of his latest production Romulus, My Father, starring Eric Bana. The Bank and Three Dollars both won AFI awards, The Boys had its world premiere In Competition at the Berlin International Film Festival and was nominated for 13 AFI awards, Robert has received a Centenary Medal for services to the Australian Film Industry and in 1998 was named by Variety Magazine as one of the 10 best emerging producers in the world. Robert has screened his films in over 30 major international film festivals including the Toronto International Film Festival and San Sebastian Film Festival. Robert is currently producing Romulus, My Father with director Richard Roxburgh, and developing his third feature as director The Balibo Five with screenwriter David Williamson, best known for Gallipoli and The Year Of Living Dangerously. Our host Andrew Urban has 35 years experience as a journalist, he is a seasoned interviewer, feature writer and news reporter, having contributed regularly to The Australian, The Bulletin, Cinema Papers, and Qantas inflight magazine. PLUS TONIGHT TUESDAY 6.30PM POST PRODUCTION PANEL Post-production – where it’s all meant to come together. The multitude of pathways that can be taken in post-production can be a minefield for many filmmakers. Taking the wrong turn can be time consuming, frustrating and most of all expensive. With the introduction of new technologies, many new and exciting possibilities have arisen, however, they also come with their own set of parameters and pitfalls. Drawing on their vast experiences, our industry professionals will discuss new pathways, the funding process for post-production, common mistakes, neglected issues and misconceptions as well as provide insight and hints on this critical period of production. The panel will consist of Julia Overton, Documentary Investment Manager at the Film Finance Corp, Andrew Plain, Sound Designer and Sound Supervisor from Huzzah Sound, Jeff McDonald, Managing Director of the post-production company Magnet Post. The panel will be available for questions at the conclusion of the discussion.
