Using unconventional and progressive methods of script development, Christina will nurture the growth of your ideas. DIGITAL MICRO MOVIE
May

This hands-on introductory workshop gives you the opportunity to produce a short movie in 15 hours from initial idea to final film. In groups, you will script and storyboard your ideas, shoot using our digital cameras, then edit your work in our Final Cut Pro edit suites. All participants will rotate through key crew roles while learning basic screen language, lighting and sound techniques.

Special Feature: Participants will receive a DVD of all productions made.

CERTIFICATE III IN CINEMA PROJECTION

Metro Screen is proud to announce a new scholarship course to train students in all aspects of Cinema Projection. Individuals are invited to apply for a place on the course which runs from April 30th – May 18th and is funded by the NSW Dept of Education and Training.
 
Closing date for applications: Thursday April 12th 2007.
 
This course is your opportunity to gain a comprehensive grounding in all aspects of cinema projection. By the end of the course, students will have gained an excellent understanding of cinema projection and be prepared to seek employment in the industry,
 
Metro Screen will be conducting the course in conjunction with our industry partner, the Chauvel Cinema, operated by Palace Cinemas. Students will have access to the venue and to a number of different projectors for hands-on experience. The course will be taught by Alan Butterfield, one of Australia’s most experienced projectionists.
 
The course is accredited and subject to assessment, students will receive a Statement of Attainment from the Certificate III in Cinema Projection.

SYDNEY SONGLINES

What makes a city is its people. What gives a city life are the people who’s daily adventures, horrors, love’s and history are played out amongst its architecture and natural features.

Metro Screen together with the City of Sydney are offering all those that share this beautiful city of villages the chance to capture the people, objects and places that give Sydney its character.

Map your personal experiences and relationships in and with the city.

This workshop will teach you a range of valuable multimedia skills. You will learn to write, capture, edit and record your personal audio/visual Sydney Songline. By the end of the workshop you will have learnt to create your own mobile phone movie, a website and a DVD.

Only a basic working knowledge of computer literacy is needed to attend, learn from and enjoy this workshop. This is for everyone.

How to apply:
Metro Screen especially encourages applications from people of all ages and cultural backgrounds.

• A 150 word description of the two to three minute personal story about events, phenomena, people, places, that are your Songline
• Any photographs relevant to your Songline

Seen the ‘Extras’ on TV? Here’s your chance to be one! Dress up and bring your friends, a book (or both) to our UTS short film set in Kings Cross this Sunday and become part of Along the Songline. This is director Helen Goritsas' UTS Masters Project and will be entered into film festivals, both here and overseas.

Synopsis: The story of the Orator, a  charismatic 9 year old racist with the face of an angel. Using a dark and threatening fairytale, he controls a crowd of masked orphans in an abandoned school hall, from the pulpit of a stage. Smugly satisfied with his power to rule over the faceless mob, he discovers a fault in his self-appointed omnipotence, as unexpected rivals burst through the seams of his carefully planned dictatorship to teach him a lesson he'll never forget!

After wrapping up a successful shoot we're excitedly getting geared up for Post-Production and are currently looking for a Post-Production producer with a particular interest in the arthouse genre, great writing and interpretive skills.

• Ceramics, printmaking, painting, drawing, sculpture, silver jewellery, beading, stencil art, digital, screen based art as well as other 2D and 3D art forms
• Experience teaching adults, children, youth and / or people with disabilities.
• Project management and program development experience.

Candidates are required to have practical experience in at least one of these areas, a current first aid certificate and suitable training and accreditation certificates. Candidates must be prepared to work evening and shift work. These positions attract an hourly rate of $22.15 plus applicable loadings and superannuation.

Metro Screen is looking for a full time Administrative Assistant. This is an exciting career opportunity to become a part of Metro Screen, an established film and television resource centre that provides training, equipment, production support and facilities to emerging and experienced filmmakers.

You will be first point of contact for our organisation with duties including but not limited to screening and redirecting phone calls, mail management, maintaining office stationary, processing memberships and student enrolments and assisting all departments with various administrative tasks.

You will have exceptional communication skills, are organised, efficient and flexible, with proficiency in word processing and spreadsheets. You should have cash handling experience and some previous experience in a similar role.

You must have a friendly disposition and be willing to provide administrative support to tight deadlines with a high level of attention to detail. Variety is the key and your time management and multi-tasking skills will ensure your success in this role.

DUNGOG FILM FESTIVAL 2007
Call for entries

The inaugural Dungog Film Festival is looking for Australian short films.

This exciting new film event will be held over four days (31 May – 3 June, 2007) and will showcase exclusively Australian films – past, present and future.  The festival will be presenting 16 feature films and 25 short films.  Bruce Beresford (Breaker Morant, Don's Party) will be conducting a Master Class; there will be a Super-indie Seminar; a Live Script Presentation and much, much more.

Dungog is a beautiful historic dairy and timber town at the foothills of the World Heritage Barrington Tops National Park, in the Hunter Region of New South Wales. It’s also the home of the James Theatre, the oldest continuously running cinema in Australia, and where the Dungog Film Festival will be staged.

The deadline for submission of films is Monday 30 April 2007 by 5pm the latest.

Youth film Stray has just picked up a North American distribution deal and another prestigious screening in New York.

Metro Screen’s youth unit Channel Free worked with Twenty10 to produce Stray.

The Channel Free production “Stray” has been accepted to screen at the prestigious NewFest - The 19th New York Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Film Festival, May 31-June 10

Stray is a contemporary retelling of the classic tale of the City Mouse and the Country Mouse, Stray follows the story of Mouse, a teenager who leaves his home in the country in search of his place in the world.  Along the way he is exposed to the seedy underbelly of the city and the people who live there including the broken drag diva Lame` Doe Ray, who takes him under her wing.  Will Mouse be led astray and consumed by the drug soaked landscape of the ghetto?

Twenty10 works with queer identifying young people who are disenfranchised for various reasons most often their sexuality.  Many of them use the service to find housing and other services after being kicked out.
