CERTIFICATE IV IN SCREEN
2008 Courses Enrolling Now
Metro Screen’s popular Certificate IV in Screen [five months full-time]
provides a comprehensive education in drama and documentary and is a great
option for those wishing to work in film or TV.
Extensive access to quality equipment and close collaboration with industry
tutors makes this course an excellent learning experience and amazing value
for money.
This intensive learning experience is composed of three production phases:
documentary, studio drama and location drama. A minimum of six films are
produced, at least two for each phase. With the art of storytelling a major
focus of the course, participants develop their own scripts, pitch their
ideas for production and secure a key crew role on at least one production
per phase, while fulfilling supporting roles on other productions.
Participants learn on broadcast quality HD digital cameras and work in professional
level production and post-production facilities, including our Mac Computer
Lab. Industry professionals teach technical and practical aspects of production
including camera and lighting, editing, producing and directing.
During the course, guest speakers give students an overview of employment
opportunities in the industry and give advice on applying for jobs and funding.
At the completion of the course, final works are screened at a public graduation
event. Each participant receives a nationally recognised Certificate IV
in Screen qualification and a personalised DVD showreel: an invaluable resource
when seeking employment or funding.

CHARACTER ANIMATOR WANTED
Paid Work
I am looking for an experienced Character Animator for a 1 minute short.
The script is a very simple one character animation of a Smiley face (you
know, the ubiquitous yellow one). Due to the simplicity, I anticipate it
to be challenging. It hinges totally on the performance of that one character
and needs to be a clean, focused and emotionally truthful performance. It's
a one-shot scene, essentially under 60 seconds. The purity and brevity means
there's nowhere to hide mistakes. It's 100% visual and action has to carry
a whole story.
There will be payment and I have budgeted $500-1000 (+GST), depending on
factors such as the experience of the animator and how long the production
process goes for. Although scripted as minimalist in style and likely best
suited to a 2D animator, I'm far more interested in expressiveness, creativity
and ability as an animator than on a specific appearance (2D/3D, digital/hand-drawn
etc). I'm looking for someone who has the ability to perform with authenticity
and passion through their animated characters. My own background is as a
broadcast designer, so I have a lot of experience in some areas of animation
and not just with character.

FILM FOR FESTIVAL
"What do you Film For?"
We are calling you to submit films to kick off the first annual Film. For
Festival. Look at your short film collection and send us your best film
fast! The deadline is Monday, November 26th.
The films will be screened as part of the festival which saw 5000+ people
walk through last year and we are expecting an even bigger crowd this year.
There are prizes to be won including a professional re-shoot and edit of
your film. Not to mention the chance to network with like minded individuals.
Our main objective is to build and promote a greater sense of community
by supporting local filmmakers in an urban setting. This years theme will
be "What do you Film For?". At the festival we will have a draw
for a prize (TBC). What the members of the community have to do to enter
the draw is write down "What would you make a film for?" We will
have a stand, with a short film clip illustrating the concept further. We
will then take those written ideas, concepts, and life stories and distribute
them to you - the film maker. If you choose, you can then select what inspires
you most and start a project from that idea to submit for next year’s
festival.
