SPECIAL METRO SCREEN MEMBER PRICES: ???SOME EXPLICIT POLAROIDS??? Some Explicit Polaroids by Mark Ravenhill Award-winning writer of Shopping and Fucking How did we get from there to here... and where do we go now? Generations, causes and values collide as the lives of an ex-con, a gay man, a Labour councillor, a lap dancer, a pinstriped capitalist and a Russian good-time toy boy become irrevocably interwoven in this provocative urban fairytale. After serving a 15 year jail term, anarchist Nick discovers that the world has changed, while he has not. With none of the old causes, friendships and foes to anchor him, Nick drifts into the hedonistic world of designer drugs and partying, in which a generation??™s natural idealism has become subordinated to corporate obedience and trash culture. Some Explicit Polaroids presents us with punchy snapshots of contemporary life, loss and desire, which pulsate with energy, placing disparate, disaffected characters ??“ each uniquely under the constraints of ???the system??™ ??“ on a collision course, as they each search for the illusive happy ending. ???Searing??¦ wicked??¦ intelligent??¦ disturbing??¦ sensational??¦??? - The Times ???Ravenhill has more to say, and says it more refreshingly and wittily than any other playwright of his generation??? - Time Out Featuring Christian Barrett-Hill, Genevieve Hegney, Gibson Nolte, Rebecca Smee, and John Turnbull. METRO SCREEN CONGRATULATES Ali Russel graduated from Metro Screen??™s Certificate IV in Screen at the end of 2005. This six month intensive course gave ???me the confidence to develop my ideas, and understanding of how to hone them??™ says Ali. This career development has allowed Ali to pursue her love of documentary making. Having recently arrived back from Bali where working as a writer, researcher and assistant editor Ali is pursuing her love of documentary making. ???We were in Bali for 10 days in January, shooting in the villages of Singapadu and Keramas in the Gianyar province, and also in Denpasar. Shooting in Bali was great - people were so warm and welcoming, very willing to go on film, very generous with their time, and invited us into their homes and to see temple ceremonies. There is a notion of jam karet (rubber time) in Indonesia which meant we had to be very flexible with scheduling (ie. there was none). But Bali is such a visually and culturally rich and beautiful place, the first installment of shooting was a wonderful experience.??™ says Ali. The team are now in the process of applying for funding to go back and shoot more later in the year. Metro Screen congratulates its Cert IV graduate on her success and in the film industry. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Metro Screen ??“ celebrating 25 years Sydney Film Centre, Paddington Town Hall PO Box 299 Paddington NSW 2021 Tel: 02 9361 5318 fax: 02 9361 5320 http://www.metroscreen.org.au TELL YOUR STORY Training, equipment hire and production support for filmmakers |
