Directing the Actor tutor: Damian Millar Working with professional actors, learn to effectively communicate your vision. Directing actors in the rehearsal period and on set is a vital aspect of onscreen storytelling. Step into the shoes of the actor and explore a variety of techniques to greatly enhance your communication and the performances of your cast. Develop strong characterisation using various techniques including: improvisation, back-story, script subtext and role-playing. Damien Millar is a theatre worker having successfully worked as a director, actor, writer, composer, reader, educator and dramaturge since 1986. Graduating from NIDA in 2003, Damien worked with the Adelaide STC, the ANPC, Company B, FBI Radio, Playbox, Playworks, the STC, the Song Company, Tantrum, and the prestigious World Interplay, alongside representatives from Britain’s Royal Court and Traverse theatres. Adrian is a widely published writer, recording artist and educator. Random House and Westerly have published his fiction both in Australia and overseas. 26 hrs | 4 Saturdays 9.30am to 4.30pm and May 1 to 27. $445 members | $525 non-members Limited to 12 places Special Feature | Work and rehearse with a professional actor in Metro Screen’s Studio 1. The Art of Editing: Adrian Rostirolla Enhance your storytelling ability and explore the editing process as an art form. Break down and analyze clips to discover various editing techniques and principals. Discover the possibilities of how a scene can be improved dramatically at the hands of a creative editor. This theoretical course is a must for aspiring and emerging editors. In 2004 Adrian graduated from the Masters in Drama Editing at AFTRS and in the same year edited the 50min Lebanese family comedy drama ‘Jamming in the Middle E’ for SBS. Adrian is the editor of the feature drama KOKODA now in cinemas. Adrian has also edited numerous short films and television programs including BIRTHDAY BOY, winner of the BAFTA for Best Short Animation and Oscar nominee. 15 hrs | 5 Wednesdays 6.15pm to 9.15pm May 17 to June 14 $335 members | $395 non-members Limited to 15 places Production Management: Heather Oxenham This course will comprehensively explore organising and managing a shoot from budgeting, scheduling, contracts and awards, to copyright, insurance and completion guarantors. This accredited, in-depth course will cover the role of a Production Manager, providing you with the confidence and skills to manage any scale of production. This course is taught by Heather Oxenham. Heather has fourteen years of extensive experience in the industry on both commercial and independent productions. Her Television credits include acclaimed programs such as All Saints, Just Kidding and I Do, I Do. Feature Film credits include Erskineville Kings, Kiss or Kill, Floating Life and Sebastian and the Sparrow to mention a few. She has worked alongside some of Australia’s finest Directors including; Bill Bennett, Rolfe de Heer and Scott Hicks. Heather is currently the Production Supervisor on All Saints with projects in development in both Australia and the US. 36 hrs | 6 Saturdays 10am to 5pm May 13 to June 17 $570 members | $670 non-members Limited to 15 places 2. METRO SCREEN POSITION AVAILABLE Metro Screen is looking for an enthusiastic + experienced person to join our team as part-time Receptionist on our busy front desk. Metro Screen is a production and training facility catering to emerging film, video and multimedia practitioners. As a registered training organisation (RTO) Metro Screen offers accredited training, professional development workshops, industry seminars, and skills development in film, television, and digital technology. As one of Metro Screen’s Receptionists you will be the first point of call for our many clients. Daily tasks include managing the busy switch, collecting training course fees, handling inquiries and a variety of administrative tasks. We are looking for an individual who is keen to work in a reception role and has the experience and enthusiasm necessary to focus on the varied reception duties. This is a job share position and the hours will be Monday to Friday 9am to 1:30pm. Applicants should provide a cover letter, resume and address the selection criteria.
