METRO SCREEN’S OPEN DAY’S Metro Screen’s complimentary Open Day, to be held on Friday 2nd June and Saturday 3rd June 2006 from 10am to 2pm. Regardless of whether you wish to enrol in Metro Screen activities, the Open Day provides a great orientation for anyone generally interested in the film industry. This open day includes: INTERACTIVE WORKSHOPS: Industry professionals lead workshops in video production (camera and sound) in our Blue Screen Studio 1, and editing, post production using Final Cut Pro software in our Mac computer lab. [Our Final Cut Pro interactive workshops are limited to 22 participants.] FILM INDUSTRY TALKS: Hear from a range of successful professionals working in the film industry, gain tips and advice on how to start your career. Speakers include scriptwriter and assessor and Tom Cowan, IMAX pioneer and Emmy nominated cinematographer. SCREENINGS: Metro Screen’s Casting Studio 2 will host screenings of short films, documentaries and television projects made by Metro Screen’s students and members. FILM INDUSTRY MARKET: Located in our foyer, staff will be available to answer your questions about courses, equipment, and general information about how Metro Screen can start you on a path into the film industry. This market will include information stalls from industry bodies as well as a special effects makeup demonstration. We are currently taking bookings for the free interactive workshops and film industry talks to run as part of our Open Day. Bookings are limited to one interactive workshop and two film industry talks per person. Our Film Industry Market and Screenings will take place throughout the day and bookings for these activities are not required. Each Interactive Workshop and Film Industry Talk will run for 1/2 an hour. METRO SCREEN’S SUBSIDY FUND FOR JUNE NOW OPEN Do you have a screen project you want to get off the ground but can’t manage the production costs? Let Metro Screen assist you through its Jump Start subsidy fund. Jump Start provides you with subsidised access to reliable, sort after equipment, current technical facilities and production support. Applications for the first round of Jump Start close June 5. Jump Start success stories include feature film The Finished People that started as a Jump Start subsidy production called Cabramatta Legends. Buy using his subsidy film director Khoa Do was able to secure further funding and produce the highly publicised and critically acclaimed The Finished People nominated for two AFI awards. Khoa Do is currently in postproduction on a new feature titled Footy Legends. Metro Screen’s Jump Start will subsidise productions that: Inspire and encourage independent, original and progressive content for video, television, and new media. Allow professional development for emerging and independent screen practitioners. Provide an opportunity for those generally excluded from mainstream media production. Encourage communities to use video and digital media as a cultural development tool and support community based screen culture practice. To see your project on the big screen apply by June 5. MAKE TVS PROGRAMS Following on from the success of this week’s MPG meeting Metro Screen announces a course devised to allow you to make television productions for TVS. In association with Metro Screen and UWS. Television production workshop at the University of Western Sydney This three-day intensive video production workshop will teach you the basics of making a television program for TVS, Sydney’s new community television station. Do you have an idea for a show but are not sure where to start? This workshop is your hands-on introduction to filmmaking from the initial idea to the final product. In groups you will script and storyboard your ideas, shoot them using digital video cameras and edit the material on Final Cut Pro. All participants will rotate through key crew roles while learning basic screen language, lighting and sound techniques, and exploring their storytelling potential. This workshop is excellent for anyone interested in becoming involved in TVS. On conclusion of this workshop you’ll receive a DVD of all short movies made – the beginnings of your TVS career. PROJECT DEVELOPMENT SERVICES AT METRO SCREEN Metro Screen’s Project Development Services offer you the opportunity to have your scripts and treatments assessed by industry professionals. Choose between a script editor and producer for a one hour face-to-face meeting about your next project. This is an excellent opportunity for filmmakers and screen practitioners to be given sound advice on what does and doesn’t work. Gain tips, insider knowledge and give your next project the best chance of achieving success whether it’s a short documentary or a feature film. Feedback is always productive especially when it comes from those who are working successfully in the film and screen industries. Cost: SHORT – defined as up to 35 pages, $140. SHORT FEATURE – defined as over 35 pages and up to 55 pages, $195. FEATURE – defined as over 55 pages and up to 100 pages, $275. EPIC FEATURE – defined as over 100 pages, price upon application. The documentary, itself, will be a series of 12 half-hour episodes. The content is quite novel and involves delivering sophisticated concepts in a plain English and intuitively digestible manner. Expected apparent age range would be 23 to 45 for both presenters and they should appear as curious and gentle persuasive. No other 'appearance' restrictions apply. The shooting commitment will be full-time, 9 to 5, for 2 weeks. The shooting locations will predominantly be in the Parramatta area. Shooting is scheduled for last week of May or early June. METRO SCREEN CONGRATULATES THE KAMIKAZE MIND The Kamikaze Mind is the first project brought to fruition form the Metro Mobility workshops. Metro Screen follows up this year with Mobile Phone Content Development workshops proudly funded by the NSW Film and Television Office. The Kamikaze mind is a cross platform phone/book based on an astronaut launching himself into a black hole. The recovered fragments of his mind have been organised alphabetically into a witty, whimsical, surprisingly touching and laugh-out-loud dictionary of a floating mind. Available as an illustrated book and as a series of short animations for mobile phones from www.kamiakzemind.com this project will be updated weekly with new images, quotes and ring tones for phones, new web pages for re-writing your own version and posting your own reviews.
