This scheme is open to people of diverse cultural and non-English speaking backgrounds that have a story to tell.

Supported by the NSW Film and Television Office four storytellers from NSW are offered equipment, facilities hire, stock, post production facilities, and a $2,000 budget. In addition, each filmmaker is mentored by an industry professional to help them through the process.

• issues surrounding sexual attraction between white people and people of colour
• beliefs and notions of 'truth', history and memory
• ideas around the term ‘people of middle eastern appearance’
• ideas around the topic of  ‘Australian Values’

07. Make TV programs, master continuity and develop your post production pathways.

Post-Production Pathways

A poorly thought out post-production pathway often leads to major budget blowouts. What format will you finish your film or doco on? What is the best path to take to keep the highest possible image quality? How will you track-lay and mix your audio? These are some of the many issues that should be addressed in the pre-production stage. This course will explore preparation, format compatibility, aspect ratios, compression, data transfer rates and the technology available to ensure the most effective post-production pathway for your project. An important course for editors, producers, directors, and anybody working in the technical and
organisational areas of film and video production and post-production.

Taught by Adrian Rostirolla, editor KOKODA. Adrian Rostirolla is an editing graduate from the Australian Film, TV and Radio school. Over the past 10 years, he has edited over 20 short films, 19 music videos, documentaries and corporate videos. A short animated film (Birthday Boy) he edited went on to win many awards and was nominated for an academy award. In 2005 he edited a 50 minute TV drama and has recently completed two feature films back to back.

09. Crew wanted for TV show 'couch.'

COUCH, which will be airing on TVS in a month's time, is in need of editors. The turn out is as follows: we shoot four episodes in one weekend, once a month. Seven episodes have already been shot and partially edited. The show is made up of several segments and each editor will be allocated one segment to work on. The job is unpaid (unfortunately) but great for experience, and we're open to experimentation!

We also need a producer. Someone who is good at seeing the bigger picture, and has a sense of continuity. This is, regrettably, also unpaid, but there are some training possibilities, so experience isn't a necessity.

Contact: Danielle Tinker at deetinka@hotmail.com with "couch editor/producer" in the subject line.

Scotland Island, an island in Pittwater on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, is holding an inaugural short film festival, H20 360, celebrating life in remote and island communities. In addition to films by an impressive clutch of filmmakers who live on Scotland Island, the festival is calling for entries from filmmakers living in remote and island communities in Australia and around the world.

There are two film categories:

Category One

Films are produced by or with the assistance of artists living in remote or island communities. The films may be of any genre: drama, comedy, and documentary, animated or experimental. Films must be in English or have English subtitles. Selected entries will be screened on 4 November 2006 under the stars on Scotland Island. The evening will celebrate the closing of Scotland Island‘s biennial arts festival.

Category Two
Films must be under 30 minutes in length. Films do not require the festival signature element; subject matter is open. International and “mainland” Australian films may be submitted in this category. Films may be of any genre: drama, comedy, and documentary, animated or experimental. Films must be in English or have English subtitles. Selected entries will be screened throughout the festival month 8 October–4 November 2006.

All Category One participants will receive certificates of participation and young filmmakers will receive encouragement awards. Films will be judged for selection by an independent panel of Australian film industry professionals.

Films may be submitted on VHS or DVD. There is no entry fee. The deadline for Category One entries is 30 September 2006. Category Two entries are due by 1 August 2006. The entry form and further information is available from the Scotland Island Festival website at www.scotlandislandfestival.org.

AUNTS WITH HOT FLUSHES
By Sue Ingleton

It’s New Year’s Eve 1959. Three female friends, (and a ring in), gather to celebrate the dawn of the 1960’s, a time filled with the promise of emancipation and change, whether desired or not. The women share a common bond, in that they’re all childless, somewhat set in their ways, and approaching, or in the sweaty throes of menopause. What begins as a light-hearted gathering of female friends reminiscing about the war, their nieces and nephews, beauty treatments and men - or the lack of them - in their lives, soon veers into uncharted waters. As many martinis are consumed, defences slip and reminiscence becomes disclosure.  Secrets are shared and lies revealed which will change these women’s lives and relationships forever.
