Pitch for your share of $15,000 of in-kind subsidy This pitching event will take place at the next MPG meeting, Tuesday June 6th from 6.30pm at Metro Screen. This is your chance to access free filmmaking equipment and facilities through the $15,000 MPG subsidy fund. All you need to do is pitch your filmmaking project to the group and persuade them to support your vision! Pitchers must have already attended an MPG meeting and be Metro Screen members. Deadline for submission of pitch documents is next week Friday 2nd June, 5pm. The meeting will be set up with a panel of industry experts who will give feedback and offer advice to those pitching. Everyone in the audience will also be given the opportunity to ask questions of the pitchers. As this is the MPG meeting for June members will also be given the chance to network and meet one another, put out calls for crew and cast and screen their work for feedback. Metro Screen’s Open Day Friday and Saturday next week Friday is booked out. Having attracted ten schools from the Sydney and NSW area. So if you want to take advantage of the free filmmaking workshops, talks, markets and screenings Metro Screen invites you to the public Open Day, Saturday June 3 from 10am to 2pm. Saturday will be jam packed with continuous screenings, video production and editing workshops as well as talks led by Emmy nominated cinematographers. Metro Screen’s Open Day also hosts a market with stalls offering vital film industry information from AFC, ASDA, Arts Law, Inside Film, Filmink, ATYP, TVS, Sydney Film Festival. There will also be body-painting demonstrations, Metro Screen guided tours and camera demonstrations. Bookings for the workshops and talks are not essential, however recommended to save disappointment. Please note that the workshop and talks are just one part of the day and those who do not wish to participate in the workshops or talks will be kept entertained and busy with the many other activities on offer June 3 at Metro Screen. Accommodation deal for Television production workshop at the University of Western Sydney This three day intensive video production workshop will teach you the basics of making a television program for TVS, Sydney’s new community television station. Do you have an idea for a show but are not sure where to start? This workshop is your hands-on introduction to filmmaking from the initial idea to the final product. In groups you will script and storyboard your ideas, shoot them using digital video cameras and edit the material on Final Cut Pro. All participants will rotate through key crew roles while learning basic screen language, lighting and sound techniques, and exploring their storytelling potential. This workshop is excellent for anyone interested in becoming involved in TVS. On conclusion of this workshop you’ll receive a DVD of all short movies made – the beginnings of your TVS career. Channel Free’s next workshop ‘Digital Micro Movie’ on July 12, 13 and 14. Open to all 11-16 year olds this workshop will give participants hands on experience with digital video technology and also provide film screenings and demonstrations. Qualified video tutors will train participants in all aspects of video production including: camera operation, lighting, audio, story boarding, scripting, directing and editing. Participants will gain experience in all areas of screen production from acting to editing and everything in between. Shooting with Canon XL1 Mini DV cameras both onsite in Metro Screen’s Studio 1 and off site on location and finally editing using Final Cut Pro. Participants will gain an overall understanding and the practical experience of producing a screen project. With a focus on visual storytelling the July workshop provides three days of intensive video making. So if you are interested in coming along start thinking about ways of telling a story with pictures. Sometimes an image can say so much more than a line of dialogue! Don’t forget to bring along any short scripts or video ideas you might want to make. Young people with little or no prior video production experience are encouraged to enrol. Volunteer soundperson required for TV documentary project Circe Films is currently looking for a volunteer soundperson to assist an experienced documentary maker on her shoot around Sydney during the week commencing Monday 29th May to shoot additional footage for 'The Forgotten Australians'. The project is at development stage only and yet to attach a broadcaster, but the dilemma for the filmmakers is the story is unfolding each day and we need to capture some footage now! This role would be perfect for an individual with some experience in sound recording/boom operation (ie. recent graduate or current student) who is keen to gain experience and assist on what will be a broadcast quality project with experienced documentary maker Nicola Woolmington. The shoot would be scattered throughout the week, so there is some flexibility regarding when you would be required. Seeking writers for Community TV Comedy Writers wanted for follow up series of ‘In Other News’, a comedy on community TV. Participation in the show is on a voluntary basis. Our pilot series is screening on TVS (Channel 31) on Monday nights at 9.30pm 29th May and 5th June. The show consists of a series of mock headlines and interviews based on the news and current affairs. We are currently putting together the follow up series, which will build on the initial theme and add more character and plot to the show. Metro Screen congratulates At last weeks Multicultural Mentorship Scheme [MMS] screenings it was announced that George Barbakadze's MMS film ‘Black Rain’ had been selected for the 21st European Film festival Alpinale, in Nenzing, Austria, 9-14 August. The film is in competition, nominated for the Golden Unicorn. This festival is open only to European films/directors and the Producer Lazaro Hernandez and Scott Gustetter and Director George Barbakadze made a strong case for their film to be included. Metro Screen believes that ‘Black Rain’ is the only Australian film in the festival. ‘Black Rain’ is a seven minute drama. Twenty years after the chernobyl disaster Marsha is still suffering from traumatising recollections, which the catostrophe and its aftermath have seared into her memory. Pain and fear are materialised in the form of rain for Marsha, as it unlocks the most dramatic and horrifying images of her childhood. Music now propels her toward the possibility of making peace with the past and the rain. Metro Screen congratulates George, Lazaro, Scott and Mentor Greg Woodland for ‘Black Rains’ success.
