Write me if you don't remember username and password. MY OWN STUFF I have also added a section to the website where I put all the tricks and articles we had on the old site. These are beautifully and profuselly illustrated with photos, which I took while my camera worked fine. However, after paying heed to a friend's advice I should take my camera to an outing the result was it got wet and went kaput. I didn't know digital cameras were so delicate. It made me long for my old Instamatic which had no such problems. Well, I'll have to wait until I have a new camera to continue work in this section. Meanwhile I have enough work, as it is, with some more books I want to finish and upload. I have to say, though, that I'm winding down already, since this is very hard and boring work. Will take a couple of days off. DON'T MISS THE OPPORTUNITY... I have decided to extend the special sale of TLPP CDs and book. As I told you before I lowered the prices significantly and will also pay shipping on all orders until March 15 (that is, today). However I will extend the offer a further 10 days until March 25. After that day I'll put the old prices back, so don't let this opportunity pass you by. Our CDs are top quality and full of great magic books, most of which are not online anywhere. You'll get great classics like Expert Card Technique and Practical Mental Effects, together with less known books or real value. To date our CDs have been bought by hundreds of magicians from all over the world and we have received many emails from happy clients. You can copy the books to one or more computers, there are no restrictions here. You can also make safety copies. The only thing I ask you is that, if you sell, lend or give away any of TLPP CDs you do it to another magician so as to help protect our secrets. To see the incredible amount of great stuff in these CDs, click below: http://thelearnedpig.com.pa/more01.html CHROMATIC WRITING & CHANGE BAG According to emails received, members seemed to like the trick "Chromatic Writing" in last issue. It is based in what appears to be a novel principle but this I cannot be sure of this. Novel or not, the principle of the free choice of colored chalks upsets the force of the cards and makes the trick the more unfathomable without adding any further difficulty to the execution nor clouding the audience perception of the effect. Also got a couple of emails re the Change Bag ideas, also in last issue. One was positive, the other negative, we can say. The writer of the last one expressed his doubts about using the change bag anymore as it is obviously a "magic prop." This is a kind of reasoning one reads and hears quite a lot but no one seems to offer a sound reason why using "magic props" is unwise. I can talk about my own experience with many magic-propish looking props and, if used intelligently and without calling undue attention to them, they work fine and produce the desired effect. THE DRAWINGS EXCHANGE PLACES Using a bunch of blank calling cards, or, better still, a bunch of blank-both-sides playing cards (because they are much more easier to manipulate) you can perform a neat close up trick in which a drawing done by you on a blank card changes places with a drawing done by an espectator on another blank card. Each card bears, on the other side, your name and the spectator's. The strange thing is that only the drawings change places; the names staying in the original cards. This is a close-up adaptation of an old trick using flap slates. The preparation consists on drawing a simple design, say, a cross on the bottom side of the top card of the bunch. Use a simple drawing; something you can easily duplicate. Performance: Show the bunch of blank cards by spreading them between the hands. Close the spread, turn the whole packet and spread again being careful not to spread to the bottom card. Close the spread and turn the stack over matter-of-factly. The card with your drawing underneath is back on top. Ask the spectator's name and write it on the top card. Perform a double turnover (turning the two top cards together as one) and let the double card set squarely on top of the stack. Ask the spectator to think of a simple design and to say it loud. Suppose she says "triangle." Ask her to draw a triangle on the top card. Take the stack from her and hold it in your left hand, drawing upwards. Turn your hand palm downwards and perform the "glide" (a very simple and basic sleight) pushing back the now bottom card and pulling from the front the second from bottom card. Since the spectator's name comes into view, all will seem totally fair. Leave this card, name side up, on the table or on spectator's outstretched hand. In this later case, ask her to cover it with her other hand. Now, still keeping your hand with the packet of cards palm down, take the top blank card, show it on both sides and place it on the bottom of the stack. Square the glided back card with the rest as you turn the hand face up. Draw your cross (or whatever) on the top card. Next, perform a double turnover, letting the two top cards fall as one square on top of the packet. Write your name on the now top card, apparently the other side of the card you just drew. Thumb this card on the table, your name side up and discard the rest of the stack of blank cards. The trick is already done but for the spectator it hasn't begun yet. Command the drawings to change places, doing whatever hocus-pocus you care to do and ask the spectator to turn over "her" card: your drawing will be there. Then turn over the card with your name and her drawing will be on it. That's the trick. It is very easy but effective. WELL, THAT'S IT FOR NOW.... Remember you can help me and The Learned Pig Project by buying some of the great CDs I told you about. Take advantage of the low prices now extended until March 20. Remember I'll pay the postage and everything is Guaranteed: your money back if not satisfied.
