Confessions of a Boyfriend Stealer by Robynn Clairday
Is it stealing if they want to be stolen?
a review by Kimberly Pauley

So, did Genesis Bell really steal the boyfriends away from her best friends? Or is there another side to the story? Genesis wants to get out the truth, so she starts a blog and confesses all. See, she was part of the clique at school: The Terribles. Her best friends were CJ (the ring leader) and Tasha. But they never really treated her like a true Terrible. She felt more like the one that cleaned up after their messes; the one that never got the guy ??“ she only got to console them when CJ or Tasha walked all over them.

Almost Starring Skinnybones by Barbara Park
Star-Struck?
a review by Terry Miller? Shannon?

In this sequel to SKINNYBONES, Alex collects his big prize for winning the catfood essay contest. He heads to New York City to star in a commercial! Unfortunately, his part is totally humiliating, making him look and act like a four-year-old. AND people don't seem to quite recognize what a big star he is.

An Interview with Sherwood Smith, by Kimberly Pauley

What do you think of co-authoring books (especially with Andre Norton)?

Collaboration varies from project to project. Collaborating with Dave Trowbridge on our Exordium series (science fiction) was a joy and a delight. Working with Miss Norton is a privilege, and I work very hard at those books. She was my first introduction to science fiction, and she also gave me excellent advice ("Read history!") when I wrote her as an anguished fifteen year old who hadn't been able to sell any novels yet, though I'd been sending them out for =two whole years=! She took me seriously, which no one else did at that time, and I will forever be grateful.

FOUR PUBLISHING PRESIDENTS TO SHARE THE STAGE

A typical children??™s publisher receives 5,000 or more submissions a year and publishes only a handful, according to editors. With so many people dreaming of writing a children??™s book, and fewer than one-tenth of one percent of manuscripts making it out of the slush pile, sometimes it seems almost impossible to break into print. The Society of Children??™s Book Writers and Illustrators is an organization that can help open doors. On February 4-5, the SCBWI holds its 7th Annual Winter Conference at the Hilton New York Hotel. Conference attendees can find out what art directors and editors are looking for and make all-important industry contacts that can pave the way to publication. One highlight of this year??™s conference will be a panel on the state of children??™s publishing featuring Chip Gibson, Doug Whiteman, Lisa Holton and Rick Richter, children??™s division presidents at Random House, Penguin, Scholastic, and Simon & Schuster.
