For the
LORD declares, "I have placed my chosen king on the
throne in Jerusalem, my holy city."
??“ Psalms 2:6 (NLT)
In every town, village, city, state, county,
and nation there are people who are set apart as the
designated leaders. Whether they are mayors, kings,
councilmen, or presidents, they have a title that
carries with it some level of authority over others.
Some of these leaders are put into place by democratic
means, some because of lineage, and others by force.
Some of them are strong, capable men and women of
integrity, while others lack few good qualities
whatsoever.
There is a King that is above every other
leader and is one to whom our utmost allegiance is
demanded and expected. It is King Jesus, the one who was
set on His throne by God the Father. His throne is above
every other, even that of ???the god of this world,??? as
Satan is described in the New Testament. Ultimately, all
leaders, peoples, and tribes, will bow down to Him,
whether voluntarily, or by force. He is the King of
kings and Lord of lords.
The real question for us is this ??“ is
Jesus presently the King who reigns over our hearts?
It is much better for us to bow to Him now by choice,
rather than bow to Him later by force.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
1) Does
Jesus reign over your heart? In what ways?
2) How
can you show respect for earthly rulers, while at the
same time recognizing Jesus as Lord of all? |
