Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, let
the Holy Spirit fill and control you. Then you will sing
psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves,
making music to the Lord in your hearts.
??“ Ephesians 5:18-19 (NLT)
The consumption of too much alcohol always has
negative results for the person doing the consuming as
well as those closest to him/her. It is a voluntary
giving over of control to a substance that is guaranteed
to cause serious problems if engaged in over a period of
time.
A Christian handing over control of his/her life
to the Holy Spirit is analogous to the person who drinks
too much. Both are putting something or someone in
charge of personal behavior, values, and destiny. Of
course, while being controlled by alcohol diminishes
life, the filling of the Holy Spirit allows us to live
fully in the abundance that God has created for us.
The more control of our lives we give over to the
Holy Spirit the more we recognize and experience the
blessings that are ours in Christ. When the Spirit is in
charge the result is a life of praise. When the whole
church is filled the outcome is true biblical community.
PRAYER THOUGHT:
Lord, break down the barriers I have erected that keep
You from taking complete control of my life. I want to
be filled with Your Spirit.
