Israel threatens to sever relations with PA if Palestinian unity talks succeed
Saed Bannoura - IMEMC - "If Abbas decided to return to a unity government with Hamas, Israel would not carry out negotiations with him and would stop the talks on the permanent status", said an unnamed source from the Israeli government, on Israeli army radio Monday. [ From the premise that Olmert engages in negotiations only as long as they don`t stand a chance, the threat makes all the sense of the world. ed ]

Defense sources: Hamas wants Gaza lull to go on
Amos Harel and Yuval Azoulay - Haaretz - Security sources told Haaretz that the lull should not be viewed as an agreement between Israel and Hamas. They say Egypt was motivated to reach understandings with Hamas for interests of its own and out of fear the violence would spill over into its territory. Israel merely "hitched a ride on an arrangement already reached between Hamas and Cairo," the sources said. However, senior military commanders indicated this week that the lull is expected to be temporary, because Egypt will have a hard time securing an overall agreement due to the massive distance between the sides.

Activists decry IDF presence in schools
Abe Selig - Jerusalem Post - Raz, who did not serve in the army for "ideological" reasons, told The Jerusalem Post that the issue was not about enlistment, but about the army putting pressure on students to enlist. "The army is something that they need to think about," he said. "It shouldn`t be an automatic decision. But the army coming in and exploiting their position of power is brainwashing."

 Shattering a `national mythology`
Ofri Ilani - Haaretz - In his book "Matai ve`ech humtza ha`am hayehudi?" ("When and How the Jewish People Was Invented") Prof. Shlomo Sand [states that] the Jewish people is a colorful mix of groups that at various stages in history adopted the Jewish religion. The description of the Jews as a wandering and self-isolating nation of exiles, "who wandered across seas and continents, reached the ends of the earth and finally, with the advent of Zionism, made a U-turn and returned en masse to their orphaned homeland," is nothing but "national mythology" [not unlike the mythologies of] other national movements in Europe.

The family then arranged another appointment in which she was to have been accompanied by other family members. However, she died three days prior to the appointment. [[2]] PHYSICIANS FOR HUMAN RIGHTS - Many patients in Gaza, knowing the current situation at the crossings, prefer to forego the hopeless process, and die at home, their stories untold and their voices unheard.

Towards a viable academic boycott campaign
Laith Marouf - EI - "...the campaigns within the academic unions were not coordinated with and tied to a parallel campaign of student mobilization. We cannot know if greater student participation would have made a decisive difference, but generally student activism is less susceptible to financial and institutional pressure"

So? ... A Note from Michael Moore
Michael Moore - "It would have to happen on Easter Sunday, wouldn`t it, that the 4,000th American soldier would die in Iraq. Play me that crazy preacher again, will you, about how maybe God, in all his infinite wisdom, may not exactly be blessing America these days. Is anyone surprised? 4,000 dead. Unofficial estimates are that there may be up to 100,000 wounded, injured, or mentally ruined by this war. And there could be up to a million Iraqi dead. We will pay the consequences of this for a long, long time. God will keep blessing America"
