THE MOVIE TEST

We Americans like to shoot first and ask questions later. However, in the gambling hall we're going to have to ask some questions first. I'm not letting you in on any big secret because it's been around since God created the world. It's in every living creature. It's what gets a colt on it's hooves soon after birth. It's what guides the migration of geese. And it's free.

You don't have to study it or buy it. You already have it and it can be a most valuable tool. We use it everyday, but for some reason at the casino we like to check it in at the hat rack. It was called instinct in the beginning, and then as the years passed, we referred to it as judgment.

Picture this - You are sitting in your living room watching television. You're flipping the channels. Why? You don't like what you see. Just the same old thing. Flip, flip, flip. At last, something catches your eye and for some reason you like what you see. You didn't have to think about it. Your subconscious has, within seconds, assembled all your likes and dislikes, and then told you this is going to be good or bad, or even that you've seen this before. There is no thinking, no studying, no hard decision involved. You did it all within seconds. If you've gambled considerably, whether you know it or not, when you see a table, you've seen the scene before. What I'm saying is - and I hope I can get it across - you have to really listen to yourself.

One more example. Everyone has seen movies so I'll use them for our illustration. Don't let the simplicity of all this bore you, think about it. When you begin to watch a movie, you know within minutes if you're going to like it or not. Maybe it's the color, the scenery, the music, or all combined, but you have a good or bad opinion. Your subconscious has all the information it needs and you rely on it without question.
You rely on your subconscious assessment of the movie within seconds, or a few short minutes.

Okay, now you are at a craps table. You buy a few chips and, before you even play, you have assessed the game one way or another. The dealers, the players: their looks, attitudes winnings, losses, abilities, etc. All of this is processed in less than a minute. After you have played a few rounds, the instinct inside you tells you if you like this game (movie) or not. The very same thing that tells you if you like a movie or not is still very much alive and kicking in you at the table. Now tell yourself the truth. How many games have you been in that you knew you should have "flipped the channel," if you get my meaning?

When gambling, rely on the same instinct that makes you switch to another t.v. channel, to get up and promptly leave a bad table. You wouldn't waste your time on a bad movie and neither should you waste your time and valuable money on a bad table. When you see the table either as a good movie or a bad movie, and when you make a decision on this basis (your personal taste), you will achieve control. All you did was listen to yourself. "Is this a good movie or not?" Once you grasp this simple application, and put it into practice, your gaming skills and profits will delightfully improve.

There. It's yours. It didn't cost you a cent, and it's a great little money saver!

TWO CRAPS SECRETS

How you can bet the field on a hot table!

You can place $25 on the five, $30 on the six and eight, and $20 on the field. If the five, six or eight roll, you win $35 and lose $20. If the two or twelve roll, you win $40, and if the 3, 4, 9, 10 or 11 roll, you win $20. The trick to all this is to avoid the seven by waiting until a seven-out occurs, then putting it all up for one roll only, and then taking it all down.

How you can bet on the field on a cold table!

Just bet $8 on the field and $3 on any seven. If a field number rolls you get $5 and if a seven rolls you get $4. This is not a good system for a hot table. If you see a lot of 5's, 6's and 8's, just go back to the first method above.

The Final Word

Dear Larry,
I won my very first craps bet, tipped the dealer a quarter and he said "Oh, a whale!" I was never so embarrassed in all my life!
Blondie in Biloxi

Dear B in B,
Don’t worry, a whale is known as a big tipper, but a quarter is not exactly a big tip. Maybe you should stay away from the buffets for a while.
Good luck,
Larry
