| Tapestries - We now have large tapestries back in stock, including some new designs as well as the original fairy garden design. One or two of them are up on our wall, so you can see how they look. Select your favorite. Troll T-Light Holders - These candle holders, which can hold either a t-light or a votive in a glass holder (included) were so popular that we sold out quickly. Looking more like tree spirits than trolls, they
managed to be ugly in such a cute way that people just had to take them home with them. We have now gotten in some more, and in two finishes. We have some with a mossy green tint, and others in a bone finish. So now you have a choice from which to select your favorite. Coffee - Our specialty foods are proving popular, so we have extended the range. We now have packages of flavored coffees on sale. We have different varieties, from different producers, so you should be able to find what you want.
Midsummer | Midsummer’s Day, or the Summer Solstice, is coming up on June 21. The day means more in northern countries because there is such a difference in the length of the days between summer and winter. Given that the winter is so grim, summer is that much more important. There are many interesting traditions related to Midsummer’s Day. If any of you have read “Moominsummer Madness” by Tove Jansson, you will remember the Midsummer ritual connected with learning whom you will marry. You must not say a word other than the incantation from the start of the ritual until the next morning, or else you will never marry. First gather nine kinds of flowers. Next you must turn seven times around yourself, mumbling a little and stamping your feet. As dawn is breaking you go backwards to a well, and turn around, and look down in it. There, down in the water, you will see the face of the person you are going to marry. If any of you try this, we wish you better luck than the characters in the story. They saw the face of a policeman. Since they could not speak, they could not deny his charges, so they spent the
night in jail. Wiccans and many other pagans celebrate the Summer Solstice with rituals which portray the Sun God/Oak King at the height of His powers. He battles with the Dark God/Holly King, his light growing dimmer as the dark half of the year takes over and the Holly King defeats him. The defeated King then travels to the Underworld, where he will rule beside the Crone until he is reborn again at Yule (Midwinter/Winter Solstice). Modern-day Druids in England mark the Solstice each year at Stonehenge on Salisbury Plain. Many
Christians celebrate John the Baptist’s birthday at Midsummer. In Sweden, flower-covered crosses with wreathes hanging off them dot the countryside to commemorate the event. Have a wonderful, magickal Midsummer!
| As Midsummer approaches, remember we sell cold drinks.
We have Orangina and Virgil’s Root Beer. We also have a range of Magickalystics own brand of sodas. These vary, depending on what is available. We have unusual flavors, so do ask what we have. These taste much better than most commercial sodas.
