| Feng Shui - We have extended our range of Feng Shui items. We now have happy fat kitties. They are made of a light ceramic material. They are 2.5 inches high. They are smiling, and waving their left paws. This is a sign of friendship. At the time of writing we have them in six colours, each representing the type of energy they attract (health, prosperity, etc.). However they are proving popular, and we can not be sure to have all the colours all the time. While they aren’t exactly Feng Shui, we also have larger Japanese beckoning cats (Maneki Neko). These are banks, and thus have their money, or right, paw raised asking you to “feed the kitty.”
At present we were only able to get these in black, although we hope to add other colours later. We also have a range of feng shui hanging chimes. These have pentacles or Star of David metal plates hanging on light chains, and are decorated with bells and beads. Again these are proving popular, but we will try to keep several different types available. Indian Boxes - We have extended our popular range of Indian boxes. We had previously sold out of the pentagram embellished desk boxes. We have now replaced these. We have also added a wider variety of storage boxes, in several different sizes. One, in mango wood, is proving most popular.
Among the more unusual boxes, we have a large 8" x 11" wooden box with a beautiful carved design on top that would be great for holding a larger-than-average tarot deck or even holding two average sized decks. We also have a beautiful antique finish 12-drawer wood box decorated with gold-coloured metal ornamentation, just perfect to keep on your altar, desk, or other magickal workspace as a small apothocary cabinet. Singing Bowls - In response to many requests, we now stock singing bowls. We have these in three sizes ranging from 5.25 inches to 7 inches in diameter. These are hand beaten and tuned bowls. Each comes with its own wooden striker. We also have pads upon which
to rest the bowls. Come in and try them, listen to them. Calendars and Books - We now have 2008 Llewellyn calendars, date books, planners, and almanacs in stock. Plus we still have a few copies of the ever popular Witches’ Almanac in stock, with dates and astrological information through Spring Equinox 2008, plus plenty of facts and lore applicable to any year. Whatever your interests, we have a calendar for you. We are continuing to expand our range of books. Amongst other new titles, we have now included
the “Love is in the Earth” series of books about crystals by Melody. These were suggested by a customer, and we were happy to fulfill the request. In addition to an updated version of the original book, we have both Supplements, which contain images of the gem and mineral specimens the book covers. We also have Melody’s Crystal Tarot, inspired by Alistair Crowley’s vision for the New Millennium and infused with Melody’s own vast knowledge and experience with healing crystal energy.
Lammas/Lughsannadh | Lammas, or Lughsannadh, is celebrated July 31 - August 1. For Wiccans and other pagans who follow the Celtic Wheel of the Year, it is the third of the four "Fire Festivals" and commemorates the sacrifice of the God Lugh, personified
as the Harvest King, in order to ensure a safe gathering of the current year's harvest and a prayer for a bountiful harvest the next. It is celebrated by rituals which reinact this sacrifice, burning "wicker men", making corn dolls (remember, "corn" for the Celts did not mean "maize", but rather the primary cereal grain crop of the region), or baking and eating special bread loaves. Lammas comes from the Anglo-Saxon for "Loaf-Mass" and traditionally, the ceremonial loaves of bread were made from flour ground out of the first grains gathered. In addition, the corn dolls were made from the last sheaf to be cut. Since harvest season was a time when everyone came together, there was an emphasis on community and thanksgiving, which is still present
in modern-day celebrations of this Sabbat. When Christianity came to the British Isles, it adopted aspects of this festival, including the thanksgiving for a sucessful harvest and all other blessings during the year, and the harvest itself was given a blesssing by the church. Basically, beyond the rituals and symbolism, the spirit of Lammas is gratitude and doesn't belong to any one faith. So whoever you are, whatever you believe, feel free to join in. Get together with friends and family for a thanksgiving pot-luck feast. Bake some honey cakes and take them around to your neighbors. Volunteer some time giving out meals to the homeless. Clean up litter at a park or beach, then take some time to rest and enjoy
the beauty of nature. We all have something for which to be thankful and something that we can give back. Have a Blessed Lughsannadh!
