Subject: When consumers defend themselves in their own way

News - Information - Resources and more...

(This Issue Main Presentation)

The Introduction:  Each of us will normally analyze a personal situation or problem we are facing and decide how best to solve or correct that problem – hopefully without causing more problems for ourselves or others. But sometimes some of us go the extra mile to do so and this can create all sorts of outcomes if not done correctly. Here is an example concerning this issue:

QUOTE: When Disgruntled Customers Attack - After Best Buy lost the laptop Raelyn Campbell had brought in for repair, the D.C. resident filed a lawsuit demanding US$54 million from the company. That eye-popping claim -- and the publicity it engendered -- was the culmination of a long blog campaign during which Campbell related her frustration with Best Buy's evasive behavior and enlisted friends and family to contact the retailer on her behalf.

Most disputes between a customer and a company don't escalate to the fever pitch that Campbell's battle with Best Buy reached. However, the actions she took prior to filing the massive lawsuit -- calling attention to her complaints through persistent blogging -- are not unusual.

We are hearing from news reports in the US that the federal government will send those rebate/refund tax checks to taxpayers as soon as this week or next week. This is good news, but it will be better if the checks some may receive are enough to do something meaningful with. Some say consumers who are taxpayers themselves should spend the money when they receive it to help stimulate the economy. Others say saving or investing it is better and wiser. But whatever taxpayers choose to do, we hope their personal benefits and that of their families will be real and meaningful.
