(This Issue Main Presentation)

THE INTRODUCTION: So many of us just cannot do without our tech products. They are like our best friends and pals. Yet we know that addiction to tech products or services can be dangerous to our health and well-being. But just how can we give up all those necessities? Here is a report on this same issue:

QUOTE: How many hours do you spend online or plugged into a games console? Well, a scientist at Northampton University believes you could be suffering from technology addiction and has launched an online survey to explore this ticking timebomb.

The survey aims to discover how the use of multiple forms of technology affects our daily lives. Professor Nada Kakabadse, who has already written a book on so-called techno-addiction, told New Scientist that the explosion of information technologies over the last 20 years has happened without much scrutiny of the effects on people.

“Inadequate Sleep May Exacerbate Cellular Aging in the Elderly”

Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine have shown that the unfolded protein response, which is an adaptive response to stress induced by sleep deprivation, is impaired in the brains of old mice.

The findings suggest that inadequate sleep in the elderly, who normally experience sleep disturbances, could exacerbate an already-impaired protective response to protein misfolding that happens in aging cells. “Protein misfolding and aggregation is associated with many diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s,” notes first author Nirinjini Naidoo, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Division of Sleep Medicine. The study appears in the June issue of the Journal of Neuroscience.

Sometimes we are caught-up in the habit of working hard for a better life and life-style that we forget to live our lives. While it is good to plan and do things that will help us in the future, we also need to live for today. If we do not, then we may just end-up being disappointed with the future prosperity that we may achieve. Some people are just good at both, but not many of us. So we need to live and enjoy our lives on a daily basis, as much as possible, while we plan for a better life in the future.
