International Students Club Newsletter
August/September 2005

ISC wants to welcome all internationals to the ASU campus and to the Phoenix area.  We welcome you to participate in any or all of our
activities!

ISC TABLE Beginning Monday, August 15, the ISC table will be on the Cady Mall, outside Memorial Union, from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, Monday through Friday (except holidays).  Come by if you need help of any kind.  This is also a place to get information, practice speaking English, get acquainted with others, and to sign-up for ISC activities.

ACTIVITIES

Furniture Giveaway
August 18 & 19
Many American families have donated used furniture and household items for new international students who need items for their apartments.  If you are a new student this semester and need things, come to the ISC table to sign-up for this giveaway.  Details will be given out at the ISC table.  There will be a limit of 40 people for each day.

Shopping with new students
Saturday, August 20
Meet at the Muse parking lot, at the corner of Orange and Terrace Roads (see map: http://www.isclub.org/map.html) at 9:30 AM.  We will take new international students shopping for whatever types of things they need.

Sunset on South Mountain

Saturday, August 20 (Note: Same day as "Shopping with New Students" above)
Meet at the Muse parking lot at the corner of Orange and Terrace Roads at 6 PM to drive up South Mountain for a sunset view of the city.  A beautiful view and a chance to meet lots of new friends.  Don't be late---the sun will not wait for us!  We will go to Nancy Peterson's home afterward for dinner together.  Sign-up at the ISC table on Cady Mall. This is a free event.

ISC Welcome Party
Sunday, August 28
Please note that the Welcome Party is on a Sunday not on a Saturday.
Meet at the Muse parking lot at the corner of Orange and Terrace Roads at 6 PM.  We will go to a large American home, have a buffet dinner provided by American volunteers, and meet lots of new friends---both internationals and Americans.  This party is for both new and continuing international students. We will have Craig Alan Greenwood, an illusionist, to perform for us that evening.  Sign-up at the ISC table on Cady Mall. This is a free event.

Picnic & Hike
Saturday, September 17

Meet at the Muse parking lot at the corner of Orange and Terrace Roads at 9 am, returning to Tempe between 6 and 7 PM. Cost is $7 which includes transportation and picnic lunch. We will go to the Mongollon Rim, above Payson. It is in the mountains (7000 feet elevation), and is much cooler than Tempe. The area is covered in trees, with lakes and beautiful views. Sign-up at the ISC table.

International Students Club is a friendship organization for  international students studying here.  We are sponsored by a Christian organization, but the club is open to students of every nationality, race, and religion.  We exist to befriend and help international students during their time here in the U.S.A.   We do this through practical help, social activities, trips, English conversation classes, and Bible studies.  We are part of the national organization, International Students, Inc (ISI).  http://www.isclub.org
