January/February 2006

Have a wonderful and safe Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!  See you in January!

ACTIVITES COMING UP IN JANUARY

Possible Ski Trip (depending on the snow conditions)
January 10-13
If you are interested, contact Dan McCoy (dmccoy@imap2.asu.edu) after January 1.  If we go, there will be a limit of 12 people, as we will be staying in a cabin.  Cost for skiing is about $60 per day.  We will ski 2 days.  We will split the cost of gas and food, a total of about $30-35 per person.  Some of us will go from the ski trip directly to the Bible Study Retreat.  That is not required, but if some want to return to Tempe on Jan 13, we will have to have a car and driver willing to come back then.

Bible Study Retreat
January 13-15
Get ready for the new semester by spending a weekend in the beautiful Arizona mountains around Pine and Strawberry!   We will have Bible study, time to hike (and play in the snow if there is any!), and will attend the church service on Sunday morning at a small church in Strawberry.  We will leave on Friday afternoon and return on  Sunday afternoon between 5 and 6 PM.  Classes begin at ASU on Tuesday, January 17.  This retreat is  for both Christians and non-Christians---just come to learn, relax, and have fun!
Theme:    "Living All Of Life As An Expression Of God's Love"
                            Speaker:   John Wood
Housing:   We will be staying in American homes in the Pine/Strawberry area.
Cost:   $35    This covers the retreat, food, housing and transportation.
Registation:    Sign-up by January 10 by sending an email to: contact@isclub.org

Illusionist Performance
Wednesday, January 18
Andre Cole, a Christian Illusionist, will perform and share about faith at Grace Community Church.  He is a professional illusionist, and has performed all over the world.  He is very good!!  Tickets are $5.  Let us know (email: contact@isclub.org) if you want to go and we will reserve a ticket for you.

Welcome Party

Saturday, January 21
This is for new students and continuing students---everyone is welcome!  Details will be published in our January newsletter,  but mark your calendar now!

Phoenix Suns Professional Basketball Game
Saturday, February 4
Against the Chicago Bulls.  Game begins at 7 PM, so we will leave from the Muse Parking lot at 6 PM.  We have 60 tickets---$12.50 each.  Plus we will ask each person to give $2 to his/her driver to cover gas and parking expense.  Reserve your ticket by talking with Dan McCoy after Jan. 1 or by coming to the ISC table the first week of classes in Janurary.

WEEKLY EVENTS

International Bible Study
will resume meeting on Friday, January 20 at Nancy Peterson's home, 7 PM.  This spring semester we will study some big questions like:

                                                                 Is the Bible reliable?

What is the evidence for creation versus evolution?

If God is good, why is there so much evil in the world?

Heaven and Hell---Do they really exist?

Can I really know God?  And if so, how?

Couples Bible Study
will resume meeting on Friday, January 20 at the home of Ron and Beth Mills, 7:30 PM

Free Conversational English Practice

Class will resume meeting on Thursday, January 19, in the Memorial Union, 7:30 PM.

International Students Club is a friendship organization for  international students studying here.  We are sponsored by a Christian organization, but the club is open to students of every nationality, race, and religion.  We exist to befriend and help international students during their time here in the U.S.A.   We do this through practical help, social activities, trips, English conversation classes, and Bible studies.  We are part of the national organization, International Students, Inc (ISI).  http://www.isclub.org
