"I Believe in you!"
A message of Hope...stories from the
road.
By Bob Perks
************************************************
Hello, my Friend!
Snow, snow go away!
Spring please come along I pray!
Yes, we live in the northeast and winter finally
arrived. Okay, that's enough.
I hope this storm was just a "A
swipe and a promise."
Make it a great weekend.
Love always and all ways,
Bob and Marianne

Today's message:
"A swipe and a promise"
By Bob Perks
I thought it to be a funny comment. One with a great
deal of potential.
So, I challenged myself to find a reason to write
about it.
We were at the doctor's office yesterday for Marianne's
monthly visit.
In case you are not aware, we really got hit hard with
snow yesterday here in
the northeast. The entire winter brought only a few
inches total. That is until
Wednesday. Snow free and then 18 inches in one
day. I know someone out there is
already saying, "That's nothing! We got ten
feet!"
That may be, but this is my story and by the time I get
done telling it to future
grandchildren it will most likely be exaggerated to 15
feet.
"When I was a kid I walked to school and back twenty miles
uphill...both ways."
I love that line.
Naturally the topic of conversation yesterday no
matter where we went was "snow."
The nurse we met with brought it up first.
"I couldn't make it to work yesterday. I live on a
small street. Only six homes there,
so they still haven't plowed the snow. In the past
you would at least get a swipe and
a promise," she said.
There it was. I loved the idea of a "swipe and a
promise." It played around in my creative
side of my mind. I had to do something with the idea
before it disappeared.
We always go to dinner after Marianne's doctor visits so,
that gave me time to really
think about it.
What exactly is a "swipe and a promise?"
It's doing just enough to satisfy someone. Not too
much, but enough to acknowledge
them.
This could be both good and bad.
I thought about how many times I did that but never kept
the promise. Or how many
times I may have intentionally given a little of myself
with no real promise to give more.
"I hate calling her. I know I should but...I'll call
and tell her I really can't talk long because...
oh, I'll make something up."
"A swipe and a promise."
"I know I should spend more time with the kids. I'll
get a video and they can watch it. I'll
sit there with them, but I need to get this report done
while I'm there."
"A swipe and a promise."
"God, I need your help. I know I haven't been to
services lately. I did send a donation though."
Maybe that one could be called "A prayer and a
promise."
Of course at the very least there can be some good in it,
too.
"I can't get there, but I'll call."
"A commitment and a promise." "I can't afford to send flowers for her birthday, but I
have some photos of the last time we were there. I'll send
them a nice homemade photo album."
"Love and a promise kept."
"My heart aches for those who lost so much in that
fire. Next month I could send a few dollars, but I bet I
have some clothes upstairs they could use."
"An obligation and a promise kept to
God." Such a simple phrase. "A swipe and
a promise."
Such a great thought. Words put
together with so much potential that I had to
share them with you.
What side of a promise are you on? Good
intentions?...A promise made but never kept?
Or, you can count on it!...you have my word!
"I'll see you in my prayers!" I
promise!
Bob
I encourage you to share my stories but I do ask
that you keep my name and

"I Wish You enough!"
(c) 2001 Bob Perks I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more. I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive. I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger. I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting. I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess. I wish you enough "Hello's" to get you through the final "Goodbye." |
