"I Believe in you!"
A message of Hope...stories from the road.
By Bob Perks

Hello, my Friend!

First I am sorry to say that the service I am using to send my stories to you,
is again being blocked by AOL.  That means none of my AOL readers were aware of
my "One Day in April" plan.

Some how I believe it was meant to be.  So much was accomplished by so few.

Well, my friends.  I believe from the responses we have reached an
incredible goal together.  My "One day in April" offer has reached
$1,648.79  from 41 "friends I've never met.  And countless numbers
of people who will be praying for this miracle.

Why is God so good to me?

Thank you all!
Love always and all ways, Bob, Marianne

Today's message:
"What's the difference?"
By Bob Perks

It was a simple enough thing.  I guess I was expecting some complex answer.
I should know better.  I happen to believe that many of life's challenges have simple answers.
But we tend to put more value on the complex.

The chaplain was speaking to a group of us yesterday and I felt like I was the only one in the
room.  This meeting was called and I moaned and groaned about it.  It takes me one hour each way
on a good day to get to that office.  The meeting was only an hour long so I decided it was a total waste
of my time.

"Children don't focus on what's different in life until they reach 12, 13 years of age," he said.
"When teaching a confirmation class, I begin to notice the type of questions they ask have changed."

He went on to explain that they develop a curiosity about other faiths.

"They want to know, "What's the difference?"

This was my moment.  This was one of those times when the light went on and I sat up.

It's not that I didn't know this.  It's not that I hadn't thought the same thing before.  It was simply that
this time I needed to hear it.

A man comes walking down the street.  A man mixed into the crowd of passing people one might
not normally pay attention to.

Not today.  This man has three eyes.

The kids run back into the church shouting, "Pastor, there is a man outside who has three eyes!"

Yes, that is indeed different.  But the man also had two arms, two legs, two ears, a nose, etc.

Why is it that we are so quick to see what's different in another person?  Why don't we begin
by acknowledging what is the same?  Why do we spend so much time on differences and very little time
on what we have in common?

He was right.

So I realized that the answer to all conflict is to settle it first by recognizing what we have in common,
what we agree on, what things we see the same way.

Imagine then, how different the world would be.   Think about how united we would be if we celebrated
sameness rather than differences.

The energy put into what is different could be better spent on what is the same.  Then, recognizing that,
we could build on distinctiveness, celebrate what we each bring to life that is unique and magnify the
things we could accomplish together for the good of all.

Some glorious pie-in-the-sky, Pollyanna, foolish dream?

No.  God's plan.

Simple, isn't it?

"I Wish You enough!"

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough "Hello's" to get you through the final "Goodbye."
