"I Believe in You!"
A message of Hope, stories from the
road.
By Bob Perks
*************************************************
Hello, my friend! Please, this is urgent!
Did you ever see "It's a Wonderful Life!'?
I am asking you to all rally together like the big happy
ending in that movie.
I love happy endings. Now you can actually help
create one.
If you like what I do, could you thank someone for
me?
Life. You can never figure it out. Why things
happen the way they do.
I feel like someone punched me in the head today.
I've asked so much of you in the past year. Each
time I did you always came through for me. I treasure your friendship and
I love you all for it.
Today I write about a man who is responsible for me being
here, doing what I am doing. This message is a result of who he is and all
he stands for.
I called him today just to say "hello" and he told me the
saddest news. I am truly devastated by it all.
Mike is in terrible health. He has been struggling
with it for a few years now. I visited him in the hospital the last
time I saw him. It broke my heart to see him so frail.
What he had to tell me today really hit me
hard.
I wrote a brief story about him years ago. In fact,
in my book "The Flight of a lifetime!" he is the only real name character and
that part of the story is 100% true.
Mike Pesta saved my life.
If you have gotten anything out of my story writing,
if you have found any value in these free messages whether you have been with me
for 7 days or 7 years and you have gained even one little thing, you have Mike
Pesta to thank for that.
That's what I'm asking you to do today.
Before it's all too late, I want Mike to know how much of
an impact he has had on the world. His love, not only for me, but for
hundreds and thousands of people who came into his life, literally reaches
around the world.
If you like what I do, could you thank Mike for
it?
A small note, a card, a little scribble saying thanks
would mean the world to him and me.
The world can sometimes seem like a terrible place.
Here's a chance for you to thank one man who has made it his life ambition to
bring good into the world.
Before you do...please read today's message.

Today's Message:
"Because of him" by Bob Perks When you think of volunteering would you ever think
about volunteering where you bank? ???Sure. I??™ll volunteer to guard the money??? you
might say. Actually that??™s exactly
what they do. It is a
fact that one of the largest volunteer organizations in the world is made of
people who save their money together.
You might even belong to one.
A Credit Union. Credit
Unions are non-profit organizations owned by their membership who have a say in
how they operate. Each state in the
Once you
become involved with credit union programs you are hooked for life. Simply because every decision they make
benefits an entire community. These
volunteers have it in their blood.
But no
one more than Mike Pesta. He is
Credit Union. In fact, for much of
his working life he was employed by one.
But his commitment went well beyond that. You see
I owe him my life. I had
been successful in life working, raising a family and enjoying local celebrity
status of sorts with my professional affiliation with the Public Broadcasting
Station. After five years of on air
hosting and membership drives I moved on to become the Development Director for
a non-profit. In 1990
they fired me. That??™s when I
crashed. My entire life was
spinning out of control.
Financially I was on the brink of bankruptcy. But then Mike Pesta stepped in. I had been a Credit Union member for about 10 years
never really understanding what it was all about. But when it came time to fight off the
creditors I called Mike. I had no
income and I was deep in debt. When
I arrived for my appointment with Mike all this man could see was my
potential. All I could see was a
failure. But then
he said the words that would change my life. Looking me straight in the eye he said,
???Bob, I??™ve been watching you all of these years. I??™ve seen you on television and many
times in the newspapers. I??™d don??™t
know what??™s happened here, but I want you to know that I believe in
you.??? There it
was. ???I believe in you!??? You can??™t begin to imagine the
impact that had on me. Oh, I know
there are people in my life who love me.
But next to the words ???I love you???, telling someone ???I believe in you!???
is the most powerful thing you can say. But I
had deemed myself a failure. Just
the day before I lie crying on the floor of my living room because I wanted to
die. I had been begging God to end
my life. Now I stood looking at a
man who saw in me all that was good and positive. Why? Ask Mike and he??™ll tell you the story of
???Little Man.??? This was the
cartoon-like figure used to promote the Credit Union movement in its earlier
days. ???Little Man??? walked with an
umbrella to protect him. That
umbrella embodied all that the credit union members and volunteers believed
in. An update:
When I spoke to Mike today it broke my heart. In all
the years I've known him I have never heard him so down.
He is on oxygen 24 hours a day.
This is the man who "saved houses" as he put
it. People who were financially bankrupt and about to lose their homes
were helped by this man. When they were struggling he helped them get back
on their feet by setting up a payment plan. For many they had no idea the
magic he was creating. Without them knowing he not only paid off their
debts through their regular payments, but he helped them to save, too.
Once they were on their feet he'd reveal to them that they had money in a
savings account.
Now everything he worked for his own retirement is gone
medical bills.
He helped feed people, clothe people, shelter people and
yes, he pulled one guy out of depression and literally saved his life.
Me. I wanted to die. I prayed to die.
Then God sent Mike.
Could you thank him for that? Would you let him know
he's appreciated?
Please send him a note, a card, a post card and say thanks
for helping Bob Perks when he needed most.

IMPORTANT!
Please put "I believe in you, Mike!"
on the outside.
I won't open them, but I'll deliver them in person to
Mike.
Please, don't wait. He's not well.
Mike, I love you, my
friend.

I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess. I wish you enough "Hello's" to get you through the final "Goodbye." |
