Today's Message:
"Flicker of Hope"
By Bob Perks

I was shutting off the lights last night so I could go to bed.  Little by little our downstairs darkened.  I often stand there just to take in the moment and think about the things of the day.

I turned and headed up the stairs.

I stopped suddenly and noticed that the room wasn't completely darkened.

"Maybe the moon?" I thought.

But there was a glimmer of light shining on the ceiling just above the entertainment center.

I walked back down and discovered that there was a small candle still burning.

We have begun using scented candles more often.  It creates an atmosphere of peace and a rush of fond memories as I pick up the smell of "Apple Pie" "Pumpkin" or "Holiday Scents."

I scolded myself for not checking closer.  All too many fires start that way.

But then I stood there dazzled by the tiny flame.  As small as it was it still gave off light.  As dark as it was it caught my attention and did its job by bringing light into the room.

Just a little light.

I hesitated to blow it out.  It seemed so perfect there.  A tiny little spark of light dancing on the fluid wax still sending memories of holidays past into my mind.

The tiny light.  The single spark.  The flicker.

I placed my hand on top of the jar, smothering the flame.

I stood now in the complete darkness and suddenly I remembered...11/20.

If you have been reading my work for more than a year you might remember 11/20.

It was the last chemo treatment for my son Keith.  He will celebrate 9 years cancer free on this 11/20.

"Eleven Twenty"?©

By Keith Perks

Eleven Twenty is a moment.
It's an opportunity. It's a chance.

It's an event in life
that changes everything.

It can encourage you,
strengthen you, and push you
to do things you've never done before.

It can make you be
everything you ever wanted to be.

Eleven Twenty is nothing you ever expected
...and everything you ever needed.

We were told he had a 60% chance of survival for his cancer.  Stunned back then we struggled with it all.

All we had was hope.  But all you need is hope in times like these.

Like the candle...a "Flicker of Hope" brightened our lives, added depth to our faith and now...now nine years later my son is cancer free.

What hope can you find in your challenges?

I'll bet there is at least a "flicker of hope." Look what so little can do if only you believe and as always...

"I wish you enough!"

"I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough "Hello's" to get you through the final "Goodbye."
