"I Believe in You!"
A message of Hope, stories from the road.
By Bob Perks

Hello, my friend!

Permit me to acknowledge the "Friends" who have taken the time to purchase items from our store, those who have made donations and those who pray for our outreach into a hurting world.

I humbly thank you for your faith in me.  I pray that I can live up to your expectations.

Someone said, "Christmas will be here in a few days.  I panicked.  So, when the storm hit today, I took the day off and went shopping for my love.

We are doing very little this year because we are building "Marianne's room."

I stood on the bare wooden floor in the middle of the storm and looked at the framed wall they erected yesterday.  It will hold a large arched window in it.

We have no room for a Christmas tree this year, but I imagined the one that will stand in front of that window next year.

I could see it perfectly.  I believe it was the spirit of the tree we gave to the church for the Nativity.

"The gift" we gave will give back to us forever.

May your weekend be filled with fun, love and happy surprises.

Bob and Marianne

Today's Message:

"Did you notice?" is all I said on the message I sent.

It appeared she had no idea what that meant.

"Notice what?" she said when I spoke with her later.

"Did you notice?" I repeated.

"Yes, I noticed.  I noticed that everyone else got a raise at work, but me.  I noticed that I get no recognition for the work I do."

She was right.

"But did you notice?"  I repeated again.

She sighed in frustration.  I was forcing her to answer the question and she knew it.  She also knew there was an answer.

This all started recently when things appeared to be mounting up, spilling over from work to home.

She doesn't smile any more.  With that goes the  laughter that endears her to many.

She has a silly laugh.  Child-like at times.

Not lately.

"How about the fact that after the meeting, people came to you and asked, "Why didn't you get an envelope?"

"You got a raise, too, didn't you?"

"No.  That's okay," she said each time.

It wasn't okay.

So what was it that she took from all of that?

The hurt in not being recognized with a raise.  The unfairness in the whole process.

"Did you notice?"

"Notice what?" she now said angrily.

"People cared about you.  They didn't just grab their big pay raise envelopes and run off "good for me!"  They looked at you and noticed that you did not get one.  They noticed that you, the one who inspires the rest of them to do better, be better, did not get a raise.  That bothered them.  That's how wonderful you are.  That's the result of you caring for them and doing an incredible job."

"Did you notice?"

Her eyes filled with a mixture of pain, sadness, and joy.

So where did this all start?

One day she told me that two people had complimented her.  Two separate people in two different locations that day, said something nice about her and the work she does.

Then there was the old man.  A stranger.  He looked at her and said "You look very beautiful, lady."

When she told me that story, I could see this look of satisfaction, confirmation that she was indeed a good person.  It was a validation for her.  A confirmation for me.

"I'm not surprised at all," I said.

"You, like most people don't recognize all the greatness in your day.  We tend to see what we choose to see.  But God sends positive things, people, moments, and ideas into our lives daily.
You just don't notice them.

If you believe that God is in your life then you cannot deny the goodness in it, too."

So now I make it a point to ask her daily..."Did you notice?"

How about you?

"Did you notice?"

"I believe in You!"

Hi Bob, I have a tape of my Mom and I harmonizing to IN THE GARDEN.   It is so precious to me.  It does keep them alive for us.  I miss all the singing our family did on Christmas eve.  They are certainly having a concert up there.  I wish I could be in on it, or at least hear them.  Love ya much, You two.  May God Bless you in the New year with nothing but good health and happiness.  Betty

Bob,
I'm saddened by the fact that the lovely lady in picture 136 of the friends you've never met album still remains un-named.   Every message you send out, I check to see, and sadly, no name yet.  I would hope she would notice or one of her friends or family members would notify you.
On a happy note, I really enjoyed the story of Pappy and the harmonica.  I often wish I would have been able to record some of the 'ramblings' my grand father used to say.  It was all a part of history and a big part of who I am today.  Now, in retrospect, I miss hearing him explaining all about the 'old country' which for him was northern Germany.
Thanks for all you do, and you and your family have a wonderful Christmas season!

"I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough "Hello's" to get you through the final "Goodbye."
