Subject: "No small requests" - February04, 2006

"I Believe in You!"
A message of Hope, stories from the road.
By Bob Perks

Hello, my friend!
I made it!  A full week with three stories just for you.

Today's story, although sounding a bit preachy, (I am not a preacher)
is really about life and getting through it with a little help.

I learned a long time ago...there are "No small requests."

Love all ways and always,
Bob and Marianne

Writing and speaking is the way I make a living.
If you enjoy reading and sharing my work, you can help us continue

If you can't help at this time there is something you can do...an even greater need...
please pray for our mission to "touch the world one person at a time."

Thanks, my friend!

Today's Message:

"No small requests"
By Bob Perks

No little prayers.  Nothing too big or too small.
No bigger needs.  Nothing more important.  No one takes priority over others.

I placed a page on my web site that offers a link for prayer requests.  I have no
greater connections to God than anyone else.  I have no proof that He'll listen to me
any more than He listens to anyone else.

I offer no uplifting music or dazzling web design.   No heavenly angels and floating crucifix.

As much as I don't like it, I created an auto reply message to let you know I do read what
you write.

And I pray.

Some requests are complex.  Some very tragic and sad.  Marriages and finances
top the list for sure.

Often times it simply says, "pray for my needs."   I like that.  I just turn it over
God, He knows what's best.

More and more I receive requests for newly diagnosed cancer.  Now that,
I understand and admit to perhaps a little more effort on my part.  God and
I have that request down pat by now.

Today I received a request I will share with you.  After reading it, you may find it
trite and perhaps not important enough to bother God with.  But I saw so much more.

"I know this sounds like such a small and insignificant request..nonetheless I am asking if
you would be kind enough to pray for my knee to recover so that I can run again..I miss
running with my beautiful dog Nisqually and my husband..we run on trails and have joyous
times all together. Running is my  prayer and my safe haven..my freedom and the place
from where I draw my inspiration. I am a hospice nurse and running helps keep me on track
to be with my patients.
So, thank you very much from all of us"
J.

Here's what I asked God.

"God, this is Bob.  I have a request here for you to heal a knee.  But it's really much
more than that.

I want you to know she didn't complain about the pain.  She didn't mention any
discomfort or inconvenience.

She uses that knee to strengthen her faith.  She said, "Running is my prayer."

She uses that knee to keep her marriage strong.   In a world of all too many
failing relationships she wants to be by her husband's side.

She uses that knee to bond with her dog, one of the many creatures of the world
you made for all of us to enjoy.  She stands so tall when she stoops to love her dog.

You placed her in hospice touching the lives of those facing the last moments of life.  That knee bends to lift
those who cannot stand on their own.  That knee stands firm when she must carry the
weight of the grieving family home with her each night.  That same knee rests gently on the floor next to her bed as she
kneels and prays for them.

It is no "small and insignificant request" God.

I ask that you not only heal her knee but bring many blessings for her faithfulness to you.

Amen!

There are no prayer requests too small and no needs too great.
Just get down on one knee and ask.

"I wish you enough!"

"I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough "Hello's" to get you through the final "Goodbye."
