Today's Message:
"The Sighs of the Room"
by Bob Perks

I am sitting here wrapped in the warmth of a welcome sun.

With a little help from a knitted afghan, the otherwise bitter cold day seems
perfect here.

Oddly I imagine myself to be old, perhaps in the last days of a long journey
through life.

"Is this the way it will be?" I wonder.

I would hope so.  The room is bright, the windows invite the outside in and my
spirit soars as I watch birds come and go at the feeders.

It had that nursing home feel to it.  A bright sun room comfortably decorated,
blinds wide open so I could enjoy the view.

It's not the furniture that makes me want to sit here.  It's the "sighs of the room."
Yes, that's right...the "sighs."

The high ceiling, the many windows, the contrast of feeling warm and seeing the
bitter cold reality of snow and ice just beyond the door brings peace to my spirit.

I am about as content as I have ever been in my life.

"It is a perfect day!" I say to myself.

But everyday is.  The imperfections come from how we choose to live it.

I sigh again.

Some obscure musical arrangement drapes the background of my thinking.  One
of those Cd's for meditation or perhaps romantic rendezvous somehow fits the
present mood playing almost unnoticed in a distant part of my mind.

I sigh once more.

"Give me one more summer introduced by a spring filled with all my favorite senses,"
I hear deep within.

I want to know what spring looks like outside that window.  I want to see the birds
dance across the waterfall pausing briefly for a drink.  I want to hear the gentle
splash of the pond fish as they feed upon the insects and yes the croaking of the
two frogs I call my friends.

I want to see the grass green again sloping like newly laid carpet and upon it a
half dozen Robins in search of food.

I want to take my place here in the corner of the room and witness the first
Daffodil unfold and bow its head in honor of the approaching summer.

I want to measure in hours spent, how long it takes for the clematis to climb
the trellis and offer a tribute to the sun.

Then in a place I'd always find myself complaining of the heat, let me now
rejoice while wiping my brow of sweat.

Open wide the windows in the evening of each day so that I may fall
asleep to the music of the night.

The singing of the crickets,
the calling of the frogs,
the final chirp of evening birds
and the howling of distant dogs.

The dimming of the sun light
as it settles for the day.
The sparkle of the moonlight
as the evening has its way.

If this be all that's left for me
a spring and summer, too.
Then God,  here is where I want to be,
waiting just for You.

I sigh once more and fall asleep.
Goodnight, sweet dreams, see you in the morning!

"I wish you enough!"
written by Bob Perks (c) 2001

"I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough "Hello's" to get you through the final "Goodbye."
