"I Believe in You!"
A message of Hope, stories from the
road.
By Bob Perks
*************************************************
Hello, my friend!
I have two stories to share with you. One I am
sending Thursday evening here
and the other tomorrow, Friday. You know I don't
normally send them that way.
I try for three per week.
Both stories are about fathers. Both stories are
true from two different
perspectives.
Sadly, it's easy to search for and find stories about
abusive father/child
relationships. People often write to tell me about
how difficult their own
father was.
So was mine. Difficult, often angry at the world,
untrusting and a product of
his childhood and the times he grew up in.
I fought with him often, got mad at him too much, but I
loved him and miss him
very much.
There is a great deal of him in me. I catch it in
words I say, actions and my
narrow-mindedness. All those things were the gifts
he gave me.
How can that be?
I over compensated...for all the things I didn't like
about him, I tried to be the
opposite.
That makes me a product of his childhood, too. For
the better.
I would love to see him standing here right
now. I would love to hug him,
tell him how much I love him and yes, have him aggravate
the heck out of me
...one more time.
But I can't. So on fathers day, I'll go aggravate my
own sons just for fun.

Today's Message:
"Hope"
By Bob Perks "Show me again, Daddy!" the young girl said. "You want to see the world, don't you?" he replied. "I hope so, Daddy!" Back when he was a child, his father would lift him up and place him on his shoulders. "I want you to see how far you can go in life, son," he would tell him. Once he was comfortable and secure, he would look around and smile. "I hope I can I go that far, Daddy!" he would say as he pointed off in the distance. "My son, you can that far and more!" his father would assure him. And so it is, still, with his own daughter. "Daddy is that mountain over there as far as I can go?" she asked. "My love, that mountain may block your view right now, but I promise you will climb over it one day," he said. "Life is full of
mountains. Some see them as
impossible barriers. Others see them as stepping stones to
places they never
dreamed of."
"But that mountain is so big! I hope I can climb it!" the young child said. "God made that mountain big so that you will become strong as you go after your dreams. He could make your journey easy and smooth.
But what value is
there in such a journey? Anyone can travel an easy path.
But it is the mountain
climbers, the adventurers we admire most."
"I hope I don't fall!" "Then you will either begin again right where you fall or start over again from the bottom. Either way, every step to the top is necessary,"
he said.
It's not how many steps it takes, but that you've taken every step. The child sighed deeply. "When do I start climbing?" she asked. "You already have because you can see it in your mind. Now see yourself on top of that mountain," he told her.
"I can!" she said excitedly. "What do you see?" he asked. "You standing next to me, Daddy" And so it is in life. In order to arrive, you must see yourself there. In order to begin you must see where it ends.
And in order to appreciate the journey, you need to appreciate those who helped you arrive.
Hope is a thing with wings that lifts you high enough to see the truth. Thanks Dad! "I believe in you!" Bob Perks "I believe in You!"

I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive. I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger. I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting. I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess. I wish you enough "Hello's" to get you through the final "Goodbye." |
