"I Believe in You!"
A message of Hope, stories from the road.
By Bob Perks

Hello, my friend!

Below is the second story I promised.

I have a challenge for some of you.

Your father.  Call him.  Go visit him.  Stop by his grave if he is gone.
Talk to him.  Forgive him.  Even if he was wrong.  Forgiving frees
the forgiver.

On Sunday I will go to my father's grave and sing as I always do.
I will pull up along the edge of the road, slip in my CD, open the
door and walk to where he is buried.

As the music plays I am totally oblivious to anyone else around me.
I sing, get in my car and drive home.

I recorded this CD and I sing it for him each year.  If you want to
hear it you can now visit my web site and
I'll sing it for you, too.

"I am a total summation of all the choices I have made
in my life thus far.  I can change anything I don't like about my life
by making new choices.  Or I can continue on the same
path.  Even doing nothing is a choice.  It is never too late to
claim the good life God has given you."

Today's Message:

"Until the Next Light"
By Bob Perks

I don't remember it. I wish I could, but I remember him telling me about it.
That, in itself, makes it special.

"When you were just a little boy, we lived on Pine Street in Pittston. When
we went for a walk we always headed down the street which was on a hill.
Walking down was easy. Coming home was a challenge," he said.

It's funny how I hear that last sentence now, "Coming home was a challenge."

As an adult, I often times want to "come home" again, back to familiar
places, people and feelings.   Home.

"Coming home was a challenge."

Time, distance and circumstance makes the physical journey impossible.
But "coming home" in my mind is very easy. I go there often.

Dad would go on to tell me, "On the way back you'd stop and ask me to
carry you. Picking you up I'd place you on my shoulders and say, "I'll carry
you until the next light."

Back then, street lights were few and far between, usually on each corner.

"Just as we got to the light and each light after that, you would beg me,
"Daddy...until the next light." he would tell me often times choking
emotionally as he reflected on the memory.

"And you'd carry me, wouldn't you, Pop?" I said to him.

"Yes, I would," he said proudly.

I'll be 56 this July. Just before my 48th birthday, my Pop went on
to the next light without me.

He did carry me until then.

With Fathers Day approaching I am reminded that he is never far away.

He is waiting for me..."Until the next light."

RE: "Hope"

Thanks Bob for reminding even us dads to point into the future
& see the prospects, not only for ourselves but our children.  It is hope...
that fuels us & causes us to see our dreams become reality.

"I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough "Hello's" to get you through the final "Goodbye."
