Cut 1/2 cup of the softened butter into 1 cup of flour. Sprinkle 2-3 tablespoons of water over the mixture . Mix together with a fork. Make into a round ball & divide. Using an ungreased baking stone (or baking sheet) pat each half into a strip about 12 in. long & 3 in. wide. Place 3-4 in. apart. In a saucepan, heat 1/2 cup of butter & 1 cup of water to a boil. Remove from heat & quickly beat in the vanilla & 1 cup of flour. Put back on the stove & stir vigorously over a low heat until the mixture forms a ball (about a minute). Remove from heat & beat the eggs in all at one time until smooth. Divide in half & spread over each of the strips, covering them completely. Bake about an hour or until the top is golden brown & crisp. Cool. You can top with powdered sugar or a confectioners' sugar glaze & the chopped walnuts. Did you read today's newsletter?
