Go Also, here is today's French Canadian Split Pea Soup Recipe: 2 thick slices ham, chopped 2 tablespoons butter 1 large onion, chopped 2 stalks celery, chopped 1 large carrot, chopped 1 small turnip, chopped 1 parsnip, chopped ? cup yellow split peas 5 1/2 cups water salt & pepper to taste Saut? ham in a frying pan with a little butter or olive oil. Put water in pot. Add split peas, cover loosely, & simmer for 1 hour, stirring to prevent sticking as peas disintegrate. Add all other ingredients & simmer one more hour.
