Surer indicators might be effective manipulation of media images and who can lie the best with a straight face. When the media as a class closely identify with a candidate the screen through which the American public sees the candidates becomes more like a shroud, and democracy itself is threatened. How many times have you heard that? Dozens? Hundreds? Thousands? Why do people say this? Is it because of the war? We have had wars before, large and small. Is it because of the economy? The economy is on a positive trajectory. Is it because the incumbent is evil, mad, or a tyrant, as so many on the left claim? No, those are real rants. Is it because of inequity in the system? No, we have long lived with some inequities in the system and have an uneven history on both sides in addressing them. The answer is values. The values that have historically made America strong such as family, faith, service, and sacrifice are all under attack by a self-appointed elite who know what is best and will change the law by any means necessary to achieve their utopian visions. Incredibly, marriage and the voice of Christians are under attack, while judicial activism thwarts majority standards. The sacrifice of thousands in dead and injured is dismissed by the confused left as a mistake, while over 50 million people in Iraq and Afghanistan develop the mechanisms of freedom and democratic rule. Then there is the Orwellian double- speak of the opposition, where scat monologues by Hollywood entertainers are described as reflecting 'the heart and soul of America.' We live in an era of serious issues and historic challenge. It is up to us, you and me, on how the future plays out. The Democrats are organized and driven and they cannot stand on their record so they will lie anytime it serves their purpose. The Left has a considerable advantage in the the mega-communication industry from print and broadcast media, 527 organizations, unions, propaganda films and the educational system, and they are pulling out all stops in targeting President Bush for defeat. The only way to ensure that they do not win is for every single supporter of President Bush and the values that he clearly stands for to do his or her part in combating the left's campaign of lies and to get every single supporter of the President to vote. To prevail, we must win the battle for the swing states! The Left is already flooding those states with money and out-of-state workers (and if rumor and history are guides, out-of-state voters on Election Day!). It is up to us to match or exceed this pre- election effort! These dog days of August are when we traditionally abandon politics for a while, but this year is different. Do some volunteer work at the HQ, talk with your neighbors about values, take a look at the Olympics, and at the end of the month we'll have our convention where we can openly celebrate our party and our vision for the future. Today the Bush-Cheney campaign announced its latest ad, "Victory." This ad tells the story of the triumph of democracy and the spread of freedom around the world. In 1972, 40 democratic nations participated in the Olympics. Today, over 120 free nations will gather in Athens to begin two weeks of sporting competition. After a three day splash, the swift boat commanders' TV ad has fallen off the media radar. The liberal talking heads just don't want to ask the pertinent questions of Monsieur Kerry... was he lying then or is he lying now? Internet readers are not dissuaded however. The hits on the swift boat vets site continues to go up as regular Americans keep asking questions about this phoney. Get a copy of 'Unfit for Command' and get familiar with it. Once that's done, get it in the hands of a pro-Kerry veteran. Pass it on. BSO is finding that this election is coming down to local issues in the 50 states. Each state has its hot button issues and/or a particular sliver of the electorate that is energized... or not. Take a another look at the 'Battleground States' section. BSO has included a 'critical path' section on each state that shows (we hope) the best path to take in helping the President win in that state. BSO reads a lot, but cannot be everywhere or be accurate everytime. If you have intimate knowledge of issues of importance or portions of the electorate, feel free to drop us a note. Homeland Security and our alliances with other nations around the world seem to be doing a very good job lately in rounding up the bad guys and bringing them to justice. Good intelligence develops over time. Of course John Kerry was always opposed to strengthening our intelligence capability while he was in the Senate, no matter what he is droning on about these days. This past week the democrats have been bounced 'off message' with the revelations of John Kerry's service in Vietnam. During the week Kerry didn't help himself by twisting around to avoid taking a real and coherent position on the Iraq war and what he would do differently, if anything. Kerry's campaign is smoke and mirrors. The Democrats cynically hope for failure in Iraq and the ME as their best hope to regain the White House. The dims are also betting against the economy. And they call it patriotic and 'a strong and respected America'... Just because they repeat the words doesn't mean they get it. The polls are confirming that the Kerry Vague Promises for Everybody Campaign has gotten at most a few points in convention bounce. This is less a bounce than a thud, historically speaking. In the all-important electoral vote count, Kerry leads the President by a wide margin in most polls. Our convention is quickly approaching, with the election following soon after. We've got to make it to par and above (well above) because If It's Not Close Then They Can't Cheat (a plug for Hugh Hewett's book by the same name). This election could go either way and will be highly dependent on the events of the last week or two. No matter what the polls say, we will have to work right up to the end, and beyond, if necessary. Volunteer as a poll watcher or poll worker, especially in urban areas and in swing states where Democrat election fraud is suspect. This is not a last minute action item that you can put off. Most states have rigorous deadlines and other requirements for poll workers. The election will be either won or lost in the other battleground or 'swing' states. Between convention polls are discounted by many, but we follow the polls for trends. BSO's FEATURED STATE COLORADO: Today Colorado has certified the "Electoral College Reform Initiative" for the ballot in November, better known as the "Make Your Vote Count" proposal. If this initiative passes, effective with this election the electoral votes will be distributed according to the percentage of the popular vote in Colorado rather than the usual winner-take-all format. Both historically and currently, Colorado leans slightly Republican, so its nine electoral votes will probably go to Bush in 2004. If this measure passes, Kerry will get four votes while Bush gets five. Or vice-versa should Kerry squeak out a victory in November. With the possibility that this election will hinge on a few votes in a few states, this is your chance to affect history! The votes of women will be critical to victory in this election. Are you paying enough attention to this binding and strengthening part of the social fabric? The Democrats are saying that it will be the young single woman who makes the difference, but on issues of values, social cohesion, the family, marriage, and security it should rightly be the entire group of women who should naturally be supportive of the President. As a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Kerry tried repeatedly to cut intelligence agencies budgets, at least when he was there. He missed 38 out of 49 meetings. He's really Johnny on-the-stump, isn't he?
