LINKS DAILY DEVOTIONAL A ministry of Links Players International TRADE-OFF "If one were to give all the wealth of his house for love, it would be utterly scorned." (Song of Songs 8:7, NIV) God: Can you hear Me now? Golfer: Whoa! Uh, yeah, yeah. God: Just want you to know I'm here to give you everything you've asked for. Golfer: I've tried that already, Lord. I've asked for a bunch of things You still have never given me. Honestly, it's made me a little mad. God: A little? Golfer: Well, more than a little. A lot more sometimes. God: OK, so now I'm telling you I'll give you whatever you ask. Golfer: Seriously? God: Seriously. Golfer: OK, how about we start with health? I've been feeling stiff in my joints lately. I'm sure that's what's slowing down my swing. Can you limber me up and take away the aches? God: I can do that. Golfer: All right. Then how about a new set of clubs? God: No problem. Golfer: Cool. A trip to Pebble Beach--no, make that Augusta National, with the best caddie in the joint. And a new Pro V1 for each hole. And a wife who won't miss me while I'm gone--I would plan to stay awhile, if that's all right with You. God: Sure, it's all right with Me. Anything else? Golfer: You know what would be really great? It would be great if my boss didn't count all this as vacation days. You can manage Him, can't You? God: I can. Now are you ready for me to give all this to you? Because you can have it all for just one thing. Golfer: What's that? God: You will never hear My voice again. You will never know My friendship. You will never see My glory. Are you ready? Golfer: Whoa. Uh, no. This dialogue was inspired by the teaching of Larry Crabb in his book, The Papa Prayer. It is meant to remind us that in God's creation there are first things and there are second things.
