CONTACTING THE RIGHT PEOPLE
Bit of inside information that can make a difference.
Always attempt to contact the right party, don't waste time chatting with the receptionist, or individuals who are not directly repsonsible for hiring and that often is not the boss. So find out who that individual is.  However, you can acquire a good deal of valuable information from secretaries, so don't overlook them. THey can fill in general inside information about how things are managed in the place of employment, and why at the moment the company is seeking a new employee, what happened to the other employee, what does the job entail, what are the chances for job advancements, do employees seem contented, is the boss easy to get along with, etc.
Now you may get a closed mouth secretary-one that seems not to wish to indulge in anything. But then you may get a kind cooperate one that just loves to rave about the boss, how wonderful working conditions are, etc. So take the chance a strike up a conversation. When you start, make certain this secretary has time to talk with you. Inquire if this is a good time to talk. Make sure you refer to that person by his or her name, and also, be honest. Tell that person you are truely seeking inside infomation and appreciate any information you can acquire before you decide to apply for the job. Also, best time for this chatting is either about 10am. Lunch time can vary from 11 to 1pm and you don't want to interupt lunch time. Also right after lunch break is good, about 2pm or 3pm, and not after 4pm since everyone is tired and preparing to go home
A word of wisdom, always treat the secretary with respect.
