- JUST MAKING IT WORSE DEPARTMENT -
Bush Administration Covers
Up Rise in Terrorism
Washington - The State
Department decided to stop publishing an annual report on international
terrorism after the government's top terrorism center concluded that
there were more terrorist attacks in 2004 than in any year since 1985,
the first year the publication covered.
Several US officials defended the abrupt decision, saying the
methodology the National Counterterrorism Center used to generate
statistics for the report may have been faulty, such as the inclusion of
incidents that may not have been terrorism.
Last year, the number of incidents in 2003 was undercounted, forcing a
revision of the report, "Patterns of Global Terrorism."
But other current and former officials charged that Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice's office ordered "Patterns of Global Terrorism"
eliminated several weeks ago because the 2004 statistics raised
disturbing questions about the Bush's administration's frequent claims
of progress in the war against terrorism.
"Instead of dealing with the facts and dealing with them in an
intelligent fashion, they try to hide their facts from the American
public," charged Larry C. Johnson, a former CIA analyst and State
Department terrorism expert who first disclosed the decision to
eliminate the report in The Counterterrorism Blog, an online journal.
Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., who was among the leading critics of last
year's mix-up, reacted angrily to the decision.
"This is the definitive report on the incidence of terrorism around the
world. It should be unthinkable that there would be an effort to
withhold it - or any of the key data - from the public. The Bush
administration should stop playing politics with this critical report."
A senior State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity
because of the sensitivity of the issue, confirmed that the publication
was being eliminated, but said the allegation that it was being done for
political reasons was "categorically untrue."
According to Johnson and US intelligence officials familiar with the
issue, statistics that the National Counterterrorism Center provided to
the State Department reported 625 "significant" terrorist attacks in
2004.
That compared with 175 such incidents in 2003, the highest number in
two decades.
The statistics didn't include attacks on American troops in Iraq, which
President Bush as recently as Tuesday called "a central front in the war
on terror."
The intelligence officials requested anonymity because the information
is classified and because, they said, they feared White House
retribution. Johnson declined to say how he obtained the figures.
Another US official, who also requested anonymity, said analysts from
the counterterrorism center were especially careful in amassing and
reviewing the data because of the political turmoil created by last
year's errors.
Last June, the administration was forced to issue a revised version of
the report for 2003 that showed a higher number of significant terrorist
attacks and more than twice the number of fatalities than had been
presented in the original report two months earlier.
The snafu was embarrassing for the White House, which had used the
original version to bolster President Bush's election-campaign claim
that the war in Iraq had advanced the fight against terrorism.
US officials blamed last year's mix-up on bureaucratic mistakes
involving the Terrorist Threat Integration Center, the forerunner of the
National Counterterrorism Center.
Created last year on the recommendation of the independent commission
that investigated the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the center is
the government's primary organization for analyzing and integrating all
US government intelligence on terrorism.
The State Department published "Patterns of Global Terrorism" under a
law that requires it to submit to the House of Representatives and the
Senate Foreign Relations Committee a country-by-country terrorism
assessment by April 30 each year.
A declassified version of the report has been made public since 1986 in
the form of a glossy booklet, even though there was no legal requirement
to produce one.
The senior State Department official said a report on global terrorism
would be sent this year to lawmakers and made available to the public in
place of "Patterns of Global Terrorism," but that it wouldn't contain
statistical data.
He said that decision was taken because the State Department believed
that the National Counterterrorism Center "is now the authoritative
government agency for the analysis of global terrorism. We believe that
the NCTC should compile and publish the relevant data on that subject."
He didn't answer questions about whether the data would be made
available to the public, saying, "We will be consulting (with Congress)
... on who should publish and in what form."
Another US official said Rice's office was leery of the methodology the
National Counterterrorism Center used to generate the data for 2004,
believing that analysts anxious to avoid a repetition of last year's
undercount included incidents that may not have been terrorist attacks.
But the US intelligence officials said Rice's office decided to
eliminate "Patterns of Global Terrorism" when the counterterrorism
center declined to use alternative methodology that would have reported
fewer significant attacks.
The officials said they interpreted Rice's action as an attempt to
avoid releasing statistics that would contradict the administration's
claims that it's winning the war against terrorism.
FBI Told 9/11 Rescue Worker to
'Shut Up' Over Finding Planes Black Boxes
A 9/11 rescue worker has come
forward to say that he was told by FBI agents to "keep his mouth shut"
about one of the "black boxes" found at ground zero, contradicting the
official story that none of the flight and cockpit data recorders were
ever recovered in the WTC wreckage.
Honorary firefighter Mike Bellone claims he was approached by unknown
bureau agents a short time after he and his partner Nicholas DeMasi, a
retired New York firefighter, found three of the four "black boxes"
among the WTC rubble before January 2002.
The pair first claimed to find the data recorders in an August 2003
book entitled "Behind The Scene: Ground Zero" when DeMasi said the
"black boxes" were found while he traversed ground zero in his ATV with
three federal agents.
FBI and New York fire officials have denied ever finding the voice and
data recorders. Now Bellone claims agents were adamant about keeping the
discovery a secret.
"They confronted me and told me to not to say anything," recalls
Bellone, referring to one of three reddish-orange boxes with two white
stripes he saw in the back of DeMasi's ATV. "I said give me a good
reason? When they couldn't, I told them I wouldn't shut up about it.
"Why should I? I have nothing to hide and nothing to gain. It's the
truth and Nick and I are sticking to our story as we always have."
Bellone said he and DeMasi were not the only 9/11 rescue workers to see
the black boxes. He said there were several other witnesses and knows
first hand they have been silenced by federal agents.
"I know two or three others saw what went down, but they are not
talking," added Bellone. "They got to those guys after they talked to
me. The only reason I can figure they are trying to hide the truth is
that the government knows it screwed up and the recorders would prove
it."
Asked to give names of the other witnesses, he said he wouldn't break a
fellow-worker's confidence, privacy and firm desire to remain anonymous.
"I can tell you this, though, it was all very strange. I worked on the
spaceship Columbia clean-up and you know when something important is
found and when something is not" he recalled, saying the day the 'black
boxes' were secretly carted away agents acted like "something big was
going down."
Bellone also recalled never learning the FBI names as this type of
personal contact and information wasn't exchanged between the civilian
workers and government officials working side-by-side at ground zero.
"We worked together, but nobody knew their names," added Bellone. "They
had on their FBI jackets, but I'm sure I could pick them out of a
line-up or recognize their pictures."
The pair's bombshell accusations blows a big hole in the official
story as well as the findings in the recent 911 Commission report. In
Chapter 1, footnote 76, there is the sole but definitive reference to
the airline "black boxes":
"The CVR's and the FDR's (voice and flight data recorders) from
American 11 and United 175 were not found."
Asked if DeMasi and Bellone were questioned or subpoenaed, Commission
spokesman Al Felzenberg said:
"I can't tell you now if he was is one of the 1,200 people we
interviewed or if the book was one of the countless ones we researched.
We explored every lead, but I will try to find out if we talked with him
and get back to you"
However, Bellone said he and DeMasi never were contacted by Commission
members or asked to appear regarding their statements even though the
book was published well before the hearings commenced.
And it's amazing with a story of such importance that in over a year
since the book surfaced almost nobody else has called them either. It's
hard to imagine a story with such magnitude has not been thoroughly
checked out unless the mainstream press purposely ignored it.
"I have been contacted by only one newspaper reporter from the
Philadelphia Daily News. That's it," he said, referring to an October
2004 story by reporter William Bunch, recapping DeMasi's book statements
as well as the usual official denials.
Those close to the 9/11 investigation said the recovery of the "black
boxes" is important, holding vital clues and leading to the truth of
what really happened on the morning of 9/11.
The cockpit voice recorder uses a pair of microphones to capture all
cockpit sounds for the last 30 minutes of a doomed flight. The flight
date recorder is also significant since it records altitude, heading and
airspeed.
Both recorders are designed to withstand enormous impact and heat.
National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) officials said they should
have withstood the conditions at the WTC.
And finding the boxes after a crash seems to be standard procedure,
according to the NTSB.
"It's extremely rare that we don't get the recorders back,' said NTSB
spokesman Ted Lopatkiewicz. "I can't remember another case which we did
not recover the recorders."
Bellone is retired and was made an honorary New York fireman for his
efforts after 9/11. DeMasi also recently retired from Engine Co. 261,
nicknamed the "Flaming Skulls," after serving a brief stint after 911
with the fire department's marine unit.

SEARCHING IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES DEPARTMENT -
Crystals May Be Sunken
Energy Treasure
Far beneath the shifting waves of the earth's oceans lie frozen
crystals containing enough natural gas to meet the nation's growing
energy needs for decades ??” maybe even centuries.
It may sound far-fetched, but nations around the globe are racing to
find and ultimately tap vast deposits of gas-bearing methane hydrate, an
energy source that could dwarf the planet's remaining accessible oil,
coal and natural gas reserves.
Unfortunately, no one is sure how to accurately find large
accumulations of crystals, or safely and economically withdraw the gas
from the depths.
And some scientists are warning that a misstep in the pursuit of
methane hydrate could lead to catastrophic consequences ??” ruining the
ocean environment and speeding up global warming.
Those are unknowns that the crew of the research vessel Uncle John hope
to help answer this month as they drill into crystal formations in the
Gulf of Mexico, off the Texas and Louisiana coasts.
The 35-day scientific expedition is part of a four-year, $13.6-million
project the U.S. Department of Energy and private energy companies are
conducting in the gulf.
Roger Sassen, a gas hydrate geochemist at Texas A&M University,
sees methane hydrates as the country's best shot at meeting its ravenous
thirst for energy, particularly in the face of an ever-diminishing
supply of oil and natural gas.
"It's the last chance," he said. "There is an awful lot of it out
there, and unless it works there is going to be a problem. People are
complaining about gas prices at $2 a gallon, but we may have to live
with prices 10 times that high all of a sudden."
Methane hydrate ??” in some quarters it's known as "the ice that burns" ??”
is an odd combination of gas and water, molded into icy chunks by
pressure and cold temperatures underneath the ocean floor and in frozen
northern climes.
The methane gas, which is naturally produced by decomposing matter, is
released as the crystal is heated or depressurized.
A cubic foot of the substance releases the equivalent of about 160
cubic feet of methane, making it an attractive and volatile energy
source. At that rate, it would take about 500 cubic feet of methane
hydrate to fuel the average home in the U.S. for a year.
No one knows for sure how many of the frozen energy crystals are hidden
under the oceans' depths or beneath the northern tundra.
Relatively large accumulations have been found off of the coasts of
Oregon, Washington and the Carolinas, as well as in Alaska. They also
have been found in the gulf, where some outcroppings have been located
on the seafloor. But the jury still is out on how much methane hydrate
exists there.
What makes exploration in the gulf attractive to many is the abundance
of oil and gas infrastructure that could be put to different use
harvesting the crystals.
The most likely methods of extracting methane from its icy cage
involves heating or depressurizing the gas where it lies, then simply
siphoning or pumping it out.
"Hydrates are certainly one of those things that have too much
potential to ignore," said Ray Boswell, who heads the hydrate program at
the Department of Energy National Energy Technology Laboratory. "There
are others, but hydrates is certainly the biggest prize."
The U.S. Department of Energy estimates there is 200,000 trillion cubic
feet of methane hydrate in the United States and its territorial waters.
By comparison, the estimated reserve of recoverable natural gas
nationwide is a paltry 1,400 trillion cubic feet.
This means that even if only 1 percent of methane hydrate ends up being
recoverable, it would more than double the amount of natural gas within
the country's reach.
"The numbers, even at the low end, are huge," said Arthur Johnson, a
former ChevronTexaco geologist who chaired the Department of Energy's
Methane Hydrate Advisory Committee.
Many nations have come to the same conclusion. Most notably, Japan,
India and Canada have developed aggressive research programs. But some
scientists are urging them to slow down because of possible disastrous
environmental consequences.
Richard Charter, a Marine Conservation Advocate with Environmental
Defense who describes himself as the "token environmentalist" on the
Methane Hydrate Advisory Committee, is among that group.
"This is a technology that has the capacity to generate truly
staggering environmental impacts, and most are not good," he said. "We
ought to do the science first so they don't have any big mistakes."
Methane is a potent global warming gas many times more powerful than
carbon dioxide. Geologists already have linked large releases of the gas
from destabilized methane hydrate with dramatic warming events that have
brought the planet out of past ice ages.
Given the potential, he cautions against a high-speed attempt to
develop methane hydrate technology that could trigger a massive release
of the gas into the atmosphere.
"This is not wild, made-up stuff," Charter said. "This is in our report
to Congress."
Johnson doesn't see the global warming scenario as a problem. He
doesn't believe human activity could trigger a methane release that
would register as anything more than a fraction of the gas being
naturally released into the atmosphere.
Sassen agrees.
"That's really ridiculous," he said of the massive global warming
theory. "This gas is leaking out of the sea floor all the time."
One thing most scientists can agree on is, with all the unanswered
questions, research is the key ??” particularly given the alien nature of
the subject.
"Humans and gas hydrates are incompatible," said Charlie Paull, a
marine geologist with the Monterey Bay Research Institute in California.
"We die under the conditions in which they are formed, and they
decompose under the conditions where we are comfortable observing them."
The Uncle John has been specially equipped to deal with the latter of
the two problems.
The ship is a roughly square, semi-submersible drilling vessel that
resembles a rig and measures about 160 feet on each side. It has been
outfitted to take borings of the methane hydrate under the gulf floor
and return them to the surface for study without destabilizing the
material.
The tests will seek to determine, among other things, how well existing
technology can pinpoint large quantities of methane hydrate. Scientists
have picked two areas in the gulf where they believe large deposits
exist, but they're not sure.
Despite its potential, oil companies' immediate concern with methane
hydrates is how to deal safely with a substance that has become a
dangerous nuisance during conventional drilling expeditions.
As gas companies have waded into deeper and deeper water in search of
oil, drilling through gas hydrates to get to the petroleum has become
more common.
This opens up a whole range of safety issues dealing with the potential
of drilling rigs to destabilize the hydrate, which could in turn cause
slides or softening of the ocean floor. Paull said the problems could
develop slowly over decades.
"Gas hydrates respond to very subtle change in pressure and
temperature," he said. "Some of these platforms we are talking about are
the most expensive things man has ever built. Couple that with the loss
of life and can we afford to lose even one of these facilities?"
Some experts, like Paull, think the safety issues for large drilling
rigs are the most important linked to methane hydrate. Paull thinks
ultimately the substance will prove too dispersed to ever be harvested
as a major energy source.
Others, like Johnson, disagree and believe the country's future will be
tied directly to the mysterious crystals. The former oilman doesn't
believe any of the obstacles will be too difficult to overcome,
particularly as energy prices keep rising.
"It looks like we may be just a few years away from some kind of
development on a limited basis," he said. "If we can prove you can make
money on this, hydrates will take off."

Ratsinger is the Old
Transitional "Olive Trees" Pope By Jack Manuelian

We have been had again by the
prophecies of Nostradamus and St. Malachy, meaning; we understand
their predictions only after they come to pass.
Both of those two prophets have referred to the successor of John Paul
II as "That of the Olive Trees" or "That of the Olive grove" the Latin
word "Olivae" used by both means a collection of olive trees or an olive
grove and it does not mean an "olive branch."
The choosing of the name of "Benedict" by Cardinal Ratzinger brings to
our mind the Benedictine monks who used to grow and take care of olive
groves. Moreover, it looks interesting that Pope Ratsinger, in his first
address to the world from the central balcony of St. Peter's Basilica,
referred to himself as "a simple, humble worker in the Lord's vineyard"
of olive trees.
Ratzinger is stern, very conservative, and ultra-orthodox Catholic; as
a matter of fact he was the head of the Congregation of the Doctrine of
the Faith, the modern successor to the Office of Inquisition. He will
never compromise with his opponents, he will not cede an inch to Satan
or the antichrist; he will try to save the Catholic Church and the
faithful from subjugation to the evil and for his strong stand he will
pay the price with his life.
It is very well-know that the one referred to as 'The Olive
Trees/Grove" pope will die and be killed in a year or two and be
succeeded by the last antichrist pope; most likely the French cardinal
Lustinger.

NORWAY HOUSE, MAN. ??“ Hundreds
of residents of Norway House Cree Nation in Manitoba are convinced the
Bigfoot legend is real after a local man captured a strange creature on
videotape.
Ferry operator Bobby Clarke was taking a vehicle barge across the
Nelson River at the northern end of Lake Winnipeg Saturday morning when
he noticed something on the shore.
He grabbed his camcorder and shot a 49-second clip of a tall, dark
humanoid-like figure moving on the riverbank.
"It's not a bear or human walking around," said Clarke's father-in-law,
John Henry. "You can tell by the features."
People who have seen the video say the figure is three metres tall and
resembles past descriptions of the legendary shy, hairy giant long
rumoured to inhabit remote woodlands in western parts of North America.
"Couple of my friends and cousins have seen it, and some of them, first
didn't believe in anything like that," said Joey Robertson. "When they
seen the video, it convinced them."
But local residents flocking to Clarke's house to see the video are now
coming away disappointed. The Clarke family has stopped showing the
videotape, saying they're arranging for an expert to enhance the video
as they hold out for the best cash offer from a media agency.
Offers have already come in from places ranging from Florida to
Toronto, they say.
Michelle Barrow, a Sasquatch researcher based near Fisher Branch,
hasn't seen the tape, but she's confident the sighting really happened.
Barrow says she has investigated many other sightings, and has found
that most people don't make these claims lightly.
"I find that these people aren't looking for fame or fortune. They're
just looking to unload this. You look at this person, and you see the
sincerity in their eyes and in some cases, they're almost embarrassed to
tell you," she says.
"I have a general idea of who's telling the truth and who's not. For
the most part, if anybody's going to open themselves up to being heckled
and ridiculed, I really don't think they're going to come up with some
kind of tale."
CBC-TV videojournalist Mychaylo Prystupa saw the tape recently and
doesn't believe it proves anything.
"What I saw was a dark, shadowy figure in the distance," said Prystupa,
who was shown at least 30 seconds of the clip. "It appears to be
humanoid and it's tall, but the video itself is very shaky ... I think
if the video could be slowed down and enhanced, then it could be
interesting."
Bill Watkins, a zoologist with Manitoba's biodiversity conservation
unit, can't imagine what the creature might be.
"Other than a black bear standing on it hind legs, there's nothing (in
Manitoba) someone experienced in the woods could mistake for a
sasquatch," he said. "There's always the possibility it's a deliberate
fabrication, but I wouldn't suggest that until I saw the film."
Watkins said he hopes the tape will be provided to his department for
analysis, but is skeptical sasquatches exist.
If they did, he said, there would need to be a large enough population
to reproduce without inbreeding. If a population that size existed,
someone would likely have found a dead or roadkilled sasquatch or even
some bones by now, said Watkins.
Linda Queskekavow, one of Bobby Clarke's neighbours, says there's
nothing to be worried about even if it turns out that Norway House is
home to the legendary Bigfoot, also known by its Canadian name Sasquatch
(meaning "wild man" or "hairy man" in the Salish language).
"That Sasquatch is not harmful," said Queskekavow, who saw the
videotape. "I think it's scared of people."
I thought I should drop you a
line with regards to the BALL LIGHTNING OR BUST DEPARTMENT: Mysterious
Phenomenon is Simply Electrifying article in issue 309.
It's only very short. I happen to be one of the Rendlesham Regulars (by
this I mean that we visit Rendlesham Forest in Suffolk, England once a
month in the vain hope of finding more meaningful, if you remember the
December 1980 unexplained lights incident in said forest).
We have seen flashes in the sky on at least two separate instances as a
group. The first was a series of three flashes many months ago. Sorry I
can't give a precise date on that one. However three of us witnessed
flashes in the sky of a similar magnitude on the evening of Saturday
26th just before midnight say around 23:30. These flashes seemed to fill
the sky as we can not determine there general direction. As you may or
may not be aware the local landscape is very flat and we tend to be in
or around the forest. If there were any natural vantage points then this
would give us a better idea of the flashes direction, but there are none
that I can determine.
Having said all of this there are power lines (part of The National
Grid) to the north of where we meet running generally West to East to
there origin power source of Sizewell Nuclear Power Station. We have
wondered if this phenomenon is in some way connected to these manmade
apparatus. However there have been instances where very localised flux
like light has been present on one of the decommissioned USA bases of
Woodbridge and Bentwaters.
The first of the joint bases is in Care and Maintenance, being readied
to be made fully operational as part of the airmobile rapid reaction
force. The other base is in private hands, (ignoring some of the
conditions of sale from the MOD, those being the reopening of bridleways
and public foot paths) of course some of the land on said base is still
owned by the MOD. I wonder why...! NOT.

Russian X-ray Girl Thrills
Japanese Scientists
46295/78229_xraygirl.jpg

style="width: 164px; height: 250px;" hspace="50" vspace="30"
align="right">
British and Japanese scientists acknowledged that the girl possesses an
astounding ability to see through people - but American scientists are
not convinced.
Pravda.Ru has already reported about 17-year-old Russian girl, Natasha
Demkina, from the city of Saransk. The girl has become known for her
astounding X-ray ability to see people through and diagnose diseases.
Scientist became interested in the Russian girl's phenomenon: Natasha
Demkina was invited to come to London and New York for scientific
experiments. British researchers unanimously acknowledged Natasha's
remarkable gift, whereas American scientists hesitated to come to such a
conclusion. They did not like that fact that the girl successfully
diagnosed diseases with only four patients out of seven. Natasha Demkina
has recently passed a similar test in Tokyo, where Japanese scientists
confirmed the gift of the Russian X-ray girl.
Natasha is currently a student of the Semashko's Moscow Medical
University. Yoshio Machi, a professor of the Tokyo University, invited
the girl to come to Tokyo to have her abilities tested again. Professor
Machi is known in the world as a scientist, who studies unusual human
abilities.
Having the experience of previous trials in London and New York,
Natasha Demkina set forth her own conditions to Japanese scientists. She
particularly said that each of the tested patients would have to bring
latest medical certificates of their state of health. In addition, the
girl demanded the diagnosis should be restricted to only one certain
body part - the head, the torso, or extremities.
"It takes me too much time to explain and specify everything that I can
see. Sometimes I can see diseases at their early stages, when neither
patients nor their doctors have any slightest suspicions about them.
That is why we had problems with American scientists," Natasha says.
During the test in Japan, Natasha was able to see that one of the
patients had a prosthetic knee. Another patient had asymmetrically
placed internal organs. Natasha easily diagnosed early stages of
pregnancy and even a pathology of the fetus with a female patient. She
diagnosed a rare undulating spinal curvature with a male patient. When
Japanese doctors compared Natasha's drawing of the curvature with the
X-ray photograph, they could see that the photo and the drawing were
absolutely identical. When Natasha was finished with her seven patients,
Japanese doctors could not help bursting into applause. However, it was
only the first stage of the trial.
Professor Machi could not ignore the remarks of his American
colleagues, though. US scientists concluded as a result of their
research that the Russian girl was not seeing but guessing people's
diseases with the help of certain external factors. The Japanese
professor decided to conduct another testing session for the girl, this
time in a vet clinic.
Natasha Demkina was offered to diagnose the disease of an old
rottweiler. The girl was afraid to approach the unmuzzled animal, but
the doctor told her that she had to look at the dog's paws. Five minutes
later the girl pointed at the animal's right back leg, in which she saw
