RETURN TO SLEEPY HOLLOW
By Timothy Green Beckley and
Circe

Recently, we deployed our company ghoul and likeable horror movie host
Mr Creepo (aka "Mr UFO" - Tim Beckley) along with sexy vamp hunter and
Creepo henchwoman Circe (or is that wenchwoman?) to check out rumors of
a revival of paranormal activity in the dreamy village of Sleepy Hollow,
New York, and neighboring Tarrytown.
Though our budget was small, the researchers managed to drink and eat
-- mainly drink -- themselves into a tizzy as if possessed by
glutinous spirits. Very much, we fear, like the early farmers whose
wives accused them of "tarrying" to long on market day at the local
tavern, thus the name Tarrytown was born. In any respect we present
their -- pardon the expression - "sobering" -- report.
The cool autumn air sits in just before twilight and a breeze starts to
drift in from the Hudson River, just down the road a bit from where
legend has it Ichabod Crane was chased by the headless horseman.

Indeed, the bridge and adjacent brook where Crane soiled his pants in
an attempt to run for his life still stands, albeit part of the main
drag that goes through town, a road now used by truckers, buses and
SUV's coming up from Manhattan a scant 40-minute drive away.
Many commuters unwilling to drive in the midst of quite ghostly (I mean
ghastly) traffic take to the rails, hopping onboard one of the numerous
commuter trains that make the trip from the Big Apple all day and well
into the evening hours.

Folding back the pages of the New York Post (we
are much to blue collar to read the Times) and
gazing out the window one would hardly guess that he area is
particularly rich in paranormal lore. But as you pass White Plains and
the office buildings start to diminish in height and number you can
start to be thankful that Circe is your traveling companion as ghouls
know well to leave her be. We figure it has to be the garlic in her bag,
but she insists it is the lovely charms she makes and wears to
ward off negativity and things that go bump in the night.
But, indeed the truth sometimes can be very strange. For it is along
this very route to Sleepy Hollow back in 1982 that thousands craned
their necks out of car windows to watch as a silent, giant, black-shaped
triangle filled the sky, much like the cloak of the headless horseman is
said to have done as the phantom glided through the thickets and glades
of this same community in the early eighteen hundreds.

One of our first destinations was the Sleepy Hollow cemetery to visit
some of the communities founding members. Circe (made infamous for her
role of Muffy in my low budget vampire flix, The Curse of Ed Wood)
was perched on a tombstone while I frolicked with the angels near
the grave of Washington Irving.
Switching into a serious mode, I remarked how I could recall numerous
conversations with fellow researcher Philip Imbrogno whose book Night Siege: The Hudson
Valley UFO Sightings fairly well documents the numerous close
encounters in the area. I told Circe how Phil, a teacher by profession
(strange, wasn't Ichabod Crane also a teacher?) had started out as a
conservative investigator of unexplainable aerial phenomena only to end
up photographing ghost lights and confronting time distortions (to find
out more order my book Our Alient Planet: This Eerie Earth in the
Conspiracy Journal bookstore). All within a few square rural miles of
where we were now standing.
During the course of our investigation in the area, we drove over into
Connecticut to hunt down giant Jack 'O' Lanterns known to be harassing
residents near an outdoor farmers market. This was pretty much the same
trek truck drivers had been on that fright filled night in 1982 when
they rubbed 18 wheelers with a "thing" the size of a 747 that tailed
them at less than a thousand feet in the air. Around the same time
the mysterious men in black showed up to persuade witnesses to back off
from telling of their encounters with the unknown. Many similar tales
exist from the time of Washington Irving who also spoke of nightmarish
figures cloaked in black who staked those who dared discuss their own
paranormal misadventures.
Those who have followed such matters will be able to confirm that often
times places that have a reputation for being "haunted" have a long
history of paranormal phenomenon.
Indeed, it was Circe that reminded me that Washington Irving had,
himself, speculated on this very "coincidence" in his Legend of Sleepy Hollow
tale. To prove her point, she cracked opened a copy of Irving's book
just purchased at the Kyjuit gift shop on the Rockefeller Foundation
estate, scene of the annual Halloween activities that tourists flock to
this region along the Hudson every fall season.
To quote Irving: "A drowsy, dreamy influence seems to hang over the
land, and to pervade the very atmosphere. Some say that the place was
bewitched by a high German doctor during the early days of the
settlement; others, that an old Indian chief, the prophet or wizard of
his tribe, held his powwows there before the country was discovered by
Master Hendrick Hudson. Certain it is, the place still continues under
the sway of some witching power that holds a spell over the minds of the
good people, causing them t walk in a continual reverie. They are given
to all kinds of marvelous beliefs, are subject to trances and visions,
an frequently see strange sights and hear music and voices in the air.
The whole neighborhood abounds with local tales, haunted spots, and
twilight superstitions; stars shoot and meteors glare oftener across the
valley than in any other part of the country. . . "
One almost has to scratch their head in disbelief that this paragraph
was written two hundred -- give or take -- years ago. It seems like
something a contemporary ghost hunter like our pal Joshua Warren might
write in one of his scripts for the Discovery Channel.
As we hunkered down for the evening -- after hours of paranormal
musings -- we couldn't help but reflect on how the area seemingly
abounds in the macabre. In fact, all around us were signs and symbols
that a spooky October was in the works for the area just up the river
from our vampiric crypts.

over there look like??? Nah, it can't be!

WHERE
TO STAY
Numerous bed and breakfasts dot the scenic area. The Doubletree right
on the Hudson offers a breathtaking view, but we were stopped at the
entrance by the burly ghoul in charge who informed us before we
even had time to twist our heads around, that the palatial estate
was being renovated and thus closed to all. So I guess even the Horseman
won't be staying there on Ole Hallows Eve.
If your budget is up to it and you are looking for really lavish
grounds, go ahead and plop yourself down on one of the beds at the
Tarrytown House. The restaurant wasn't open when we where there so we
had to venture out into the crisp autumn air. This slight incontinence
was offset by the use of the heated indoor pool (just call me Creepo the
prune) and the fact looking out the window at around 3 AM I thought I
saw a specter under the flood lights in back of the complex where we
should have been fast asleep and not watching the Sci Fi Channel.
WHERE
TO EAT
For lunch there is the Horseman saloon and the Sleepy Hollow Cafe
(service is fine but if your seated outside you notice the sidewalk
slants more than it does in one of those mystery vortex spots).
For about the best meal ever in an absolutely superb setting stop by
Harvest-on-the Hudson in Hasting on the Hudson. Its right on the Hudson
(boy isn't that repetitive) and outdoor dinning for lunch will be a
treat you won't forget for a long time. Lots of indoor seating as well,
and a bar that goes on for miles (thank you, but we had our Bloody
Mary's on the lawn).
Thus ended our little adventure...Being psycho -- I mean psychic -- I
asked Circe about the vibes. She didn't appear to be scared out of her
wits despite the traffic headed home, so I guess the spirits weren't as
restless as they might have been.
So do we plan to return to Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown to search for
more spirits? It could well be that sometime in the not to distant
future we might set up shop to film our own version of Sleepy Hollow --
except it will called CREEPY
HOLLOW.
Happy Halloween from Mr Creepo,
Circe, and the staff of the Conspiracy Journal

- TIRED OF TAKING THE FALL DEPARTMENT -
CIA's Top Spies Are Quitting
When Porter J. Goss took over a
failure-stained CIA last year, he promised to reshape the agency
beginning with the area he knew best: its famed spy division.
Goss, himself a former covert operative who had chaired the House
intelligence committee, focused on the officers in the field. He pledged
status and resources for case officers, sending hundreds more to far-off
assignments, undercover and on the front line of the battle against al
Qaeda.
A year later, Goss is at loggerheads with the clandestine service he
sought to embrace. At least a dozen senior officials -- several of whom
were promoted under Goss -- have resigned, retired early or requested
reassignment. The directorate's second-in-command walked out of Langley
last month and then told senators in a closed-door hearing that he had
lost confidence in Goss's leadership.
The turmoil has left some employees shaken and has prompted former
colleagues in Congress to question how Goss intends to improve the
agency's capabilities and restore morale. The White House is aware of
the problems, administration officials said, and believes they are being
handled by the director of national intelligence, who now oversees the
agency.
But the Senate intelligence committee, which generally took testimony
once a year from Goss's predecessors, has invited him for an unusual
closed-door hearing today. Senators, according to their staff, intend to
ask the former congressman from Florida to explain why the CIA is
bleeding talent at a time of war, and to answer charges that the agency
is adrift.
"Hundreds of years of leadership and experience has walked out the door
in the last year," said Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.), "and more senior
people are making critical career decisions as we speak."
On a recent visit to a large CIA station in the Middle East, Harman,
the ranking Democrat on the same House intelligence panel where Goss
once presided, said she asked for a show of hands from those who
understood where Goss was leading the agency. "The vast majority didn't
know, and they are worried," Harman said in a telephone interview during
her trip.
Some of the struggles that have dominated Goss's first year stem from a
massive reorganization that stripped the CIA of its leadership role in
the intelligence community and made it subservient to a new director of
national intelligence. Congress ordered the shake-up after several
public investigations blamed the CIA for failing to detect the 9/11 plot
and erring in assessments of Iraq's weapons. The probes crippled morale
inside the deeply secretive agency. Goss's staff says he is confident he
can reshape the CIA and, despite persistent rumors, he has no intention
of resigning. "Director Goss loves his job and is dedicated to the CIA
team and his vision of modernizing and strengthening our numbers and
capabilities across the board," his spokeswoman, Jennifer Millerwise
Dyck, said. "He wants to see that through."
Several moves in recent weeks indicate Goss is trying to address the
ill will, which has becoming increasingly public, between his office and
career officials at the CIA.
He held an agency-wide meeting to discuss staff concerns last month and
later announced that he would not seek to punish career analysts whose
poor performances had been singled out in a classified and internal
review of the agency's work leading up to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
"Risk is a critical part of the intelligence business," Goss said in a
public statement that championed the CIA's successes. "Singling out
these individuals would send the wrong message to our junior officers
about taking risks." The statement went a long way to quell some of the
unhappiness, officials said in interviews.
Harman's Republican counterpart argues that Goss needs to make
significant changes, including among personnel, if the agency is to
rebuild. "It's going to be very hard to get the change you need if you
keep all the same players," said Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.), the
committee chairman. "Yes, the agency needs to have good morale, but they
need to have the right people in the right jobs, and I think that is
exactly where Porter is moving to."
Taking over the agency at a turbulent time in its history would not
have been an easy task for anyone. It was particularly difficult for
Goss, an eight-term congressman who was close to the White House and who
became fiercely critical of the CIA.
Shortly before he was nominated for the job, Goss co-authored a
scathing indictment of the agency and its popular director, George
Tenet. In a letter to the agency in May 2004, Goss and several
congressional colleagues focused particular wrath on the clandestine
service and human intelligence.
"After years of trying to convince, suggest, urge, entice, cajole, and
pressure CIA to make wide-reaching changes to the way it conducts its
HUMINT mission," the CIA "continues down a road leading over a
proverbial cliff. The damage to the HUMINT mission through its
misallocation and redirection of resources, poor prioritization of
objectives, micromanagement of field operations, and a continued
political aversion to operational risk is, in the Committee's judgment,
significant and could likely be long-lasting."
Goss declined to be interviewed. But some of his close allies say the
letter, which they believe he regrets in tone, if not substance, has
haunted his first year and accounts for much of the strain between Goss
and the clandestine service. "The letter is a pretty clear indication
that he didn't expect to get the job," one official said.
Goss, who turns 67 in November, had been preparing to retire from
public service and spend more time on a family farm in Virginia when he
was asked by Vice President Cheney to stay on as House intelligence
chairman after the 2001 attacks. When Tenet resigned in the summer of
2004, Goss was nominated to succeed the longest-serving director in CIA
history.
At the time, Congress was working through details of a dramatic
refashioning of the bureaucratic landscape, in which a new intelligence
czar would oversee not just the CIA but also all intelligence offices in
the U.S. government. Goss did not know whether he would eventually
become the new director of national intelligence or end up focusing
solely on the CIA.
"Porter took over the agency at an extremely difficult time, when his
job was going to change fundamentally and the agency's role in the
community was going to change," said Mark Lowenthal, a senior manager
hired by Tenet. He left the CIA six months into Goss's term; the two
have remained friends. "It was a hard time to become director," he said.
Goss divided his attention between the CIA and the rest of the
intelligence community. In March, President Bush chose as DNI John D.
Negroponte, a career foreign service officer and ambassador in Iraq.
Negroponte's office is still taking shape, and it is unclear how much
control he will exert over the CIA.
But the days of an all-powerful CIA director who reports exclusively to
the president are over. Goss no longer has daily access to the Oval
Office -- Negroponte is now responsible for briefing the president --
and Goss must coordinate all decisions with Negroponte's office.
Through memos and the recent staff meeting, Goss has tried to assure
employees that he has made the transition from critic to champion and
that the CIA will remain the country's preeminent intelligence-gathering
agency. "CIA is the gold standard when it comes to human intelligence
collection," he told the staff in a recent agency-wide meeting.
Among his top priorities is getting spies in the field to work more
independently and to rely less on complicated relationships with foreign
intelligence services. Some veterans have interpreted that push as
either a disinterest in working with others or a rejection of a
collection method that is highly valued inside the clandestine service.
But Goss believes the agency has leaned too heavily, sometimes to its
detriment, on faulty information gleaned from others.
Goss, who served as a CIA operative in Latin America in the 1960s, is
also eager to reopen stations there so the agency is prepared when
conflicts arise in otherwise quiet areas. That desire has been welcomed
even by his critics, but some argue it is still too early in the
struggle with al Qaeda to begin moving resources elsewhere.
"The CIA is like a lot of other bureaucracies," said former Sen. Bob
Graham (D-Fla.), a friend of Goss. "They don't like change and are
somewhere between resistant and noncooperative."
In one of his first moves, Goss eliminated a daily 5 p.m. meeting on
terrorism, attended by dozens of specialist inside the agency to better
coordinate information on al Qaeda. Instead, he asked to be briefed on
the subject three times a week in a more intimate setting.
For Goss, the new format worked better, but the abrupt change stirred
dissent and suspicion in the agency.
A work trip to picturesque Slovenia had similar consequences. The trip
raised eyebrows, from the spy division to the legal department,
officials said, because Goss, an avid organic farmer, arranged for one
meeting to take place at a local organic farm.
More reserved style
There is also a perception among some at the agency that Goss and his
staff are not as engaged as Tenet, a gregarious New Yorker who roamed
the halls, chatting up analysts and putting in 16-hour days at
headquarters.
Goss's style is more reserved, and his aides said his days are just as
long. But not all his work is conducted from behind his desk. "He begins
every day with an intelligence update briefing prior to his arrival at
the agency," his spokeswoman said. "He has meetings throughout the day;
some are at Langley, some are downtown. Some days he stays very late,
but every day is different."
In March, Goss complained during a speech that his job was overwhelming
and that he was surprised by the number of hours it demanded. "The White
House wasn't amused by that," one intelligence community official said.
Then in June, Goss told Time magazine that he had "an excellent idea"
where Osama bin Laden was but that the United States could not get him
because of diplomatic sensitivities. This time, the White House and the
State Department publicly disputed the remarks.
In a now-infamous e-mail to overseas station chiefs, Goss said
appointments with visiting intelligence chiefs should be arranged for
Tuesdays or Thursdays. The memo was apparently meant to assure station
chiefs that he was setting aside extra time for important visits, but it
bewildered officers in the field.
He eventually corrected the memo but has developed a reputation inside
the agency, and out, for being unavailable.
A brain drain
When Goss arrived at the CIA in September 2004 with four GOP aides from
Capitol Hill in tow, he was accused of bringing a Republican agenda to
an agency that has long sought to distance itself from partisan
politics. Personality clashes erupted between his staff and career
officials, leading to two high-profile resignations in the clandestine
service within six weeks.
Hoping to quell fears that the posts would be filled with political
allies, Goss quickly promoted from within. But he has had difficulty
retaining senior leaders. Most of those departing are doing so on their
own initiative, not Goss's.
In the clandestine service alone, known as the "Directorate of
Operations," Goss has lost one director, two deputy directors, and at
least a dozen department heads, station chiefs and division directors --
many with the key language skills and experience he has said the agency
needs.
"He obviously has a problem with the D.O.," said one ally in the
intelligence community who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
Some officials resigned in frustration with Goss or his staff; others
took early retirement or arranged transfers out of the CIA. Robert
Richer, the No. 2 official in the D.O., announced his resignation last
month, then shared his concerns about Goss with the Senate intelligence
panel.
Shortly afterward, the head of the European division, whose key and
undercover role includes overseeing the hunt for al Qaeda on the
continent, surprised his staff by announcing his own departure. Equally
surprising to some was his destination: the Energy Department's office
of intelligence, a small and specialized analytic shop concentrating on
nuclear technology. For an operator of his seniority, the career choice
was seen as highly unusual.
Goss tried to calm the waters with a town-hall-style meeting on Sept.
23 in the agency's white-domed auditorium, known as "the bubble." He
focused again on the need for better and more independent spy work. But
the message, one year after he was sworn in, fell short of at least some
expectations.
"With all due respect," one junior officer told Goss during the
question-and-answer session that followed, "it was a vanilla speech."
Another officer asked about Richer's departure and sought assurances
that others would stay. "Goss responded fully and made clear the future
of the directorate is bright," his spokeswoman said.

EVERY GENERATION THINKS THEY ARE THE LAST DEPARTMENT -
Apocalyptic Anxiety Runs
High in Disasters' Wake

Every morning, the Rev. Micheal Mitchell prays that if today is the
beginning of the end of the world as we know it, he will be ready.
"Ever since the terrorist attacks four years ago, I try to live every
day as if it will be the last day," said Mitchell, 46, senior pastor of
New Life Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church in East Flatbush.
Mitchell's belief that he is watching biblical prophecy unfold in the
form of modern day famines, floods and earthquakes has grown
increasingly urgent. What with a cataclysmic earthquake swallowing whole
villages in South Asia, coming on the heels of a killer tsunami and
hurricanes that flooded the Gulf Coast and brought lethal mud slides to
Guatemala, apocalyptic anxiety is running extraordinarily high -- among
believers and nonbelievers alike.
Set against a backdrop of terror threats and worries that avian flu may
morph into a pandemic, it's no wonder that talk of a biblical-scale
reckoning is cropping up in all sorts of conversations.
"A lot of people are watching the Rapture Index very carefully right
now," said Stephen O'Leary, an expert on apocalypticism at the
University of Southern California, referring to a Web site that purports
to offer a statistical gauge of the approach of the moment that
Christians believe Jesus will remove the faithful from Earth.
The Web site -- www.raptureready.com/rap2.html -- currently registers
161. Anything higher than 145 means "fasten your seatbelts," according
to the legend.
Apocalyptic beliefs have long been an American staple. A June 2001
survey by the Barna Research Group, for instance, found that 40 percent
of adults in the United States believe the physical world will end as a
result of supernatural intervention. Fifty percent disagreed, and 10
percent didn't know.
Mitchell, like many Pentecostals and Charismatics, believes the seven
years of calamities leading to Armageddon -- the battle in which Jesus
will defeat the Anti-Christ -- may already have begun. Now, he said, he
gets almost daily questions from congregants about how current events
may reflect those prophecies.
"Someone in our men's group asked whether I thought the earthquake in
Asia was a sign of the coming of the Lord," he said. "I told him that I
believe that that is exactly what's taking place."
Social scientists say that such preoccupations reflect an increasingly
apocalyptic mood in America, expressed not just in Christian
fundamentalism, but also in secular doom-and-gloom scenarios that
forecast widespread flooding as a result of global warming, or worldwide
depression caused by oil shortages.
Nonbelievers tend to express their anxieties in terms of manmade
ecological disasters or, more simply, an indifferent and often, hostile
nature. If the recent storms and quakes portend anything, it's climactic
change, not biblical reckoning, said Oliver Haker, 28, an East Village
lawyer.
Others search for a deeper, redemptive meaning behind so much suffering
and despair.
"When I heard about the quake in Pakistan, I thought, 'Wow, this could
be it -- we could be entering the final seven years,'" said Irwin
Baxter, president and founder of Endtime Ministries in Richmond, Ind.,
who does a radio show about biblical prophecy (broadcast locally at 11
p.m. on WMCA/970 AM) and who lectured at Queens College last month.
Naysayers note that such predictions are a constant in human history --
and have always been proven wrong.
"We have an acute need to find an explanation for suffering, pain and
death," O'Leary said.
Certainly, it is a sign of the times that book sellers report an uptick
in sales for books not just about biblical prophecy, but also that
explain disasters in scientific terms.
Besides the steady popularity of apocalyptic titles, like the
bestselling Left Behind series, "what we have seen recently is marked
interest in books that help readers understand the issues of the day,"
said Bill Tipper, bestsellers editor for Barnes&Noble.com.
Rabbi Irwin Kula, president of the Manhattan-based National Jewish
Center for Learning and Leadership, said that for Jews, as well as
Christians, millenial thinking offers purpose to life. But he warns that
it can also be used to "escape from real world ethical obligations."
He stresses a Jewish teaching that if one is planting a tree, and hears
the messiah is coming, one should continue planting. "It's our
life-affirming actions that produce the reality of a messianic future,"
Kula said.

- THE FOG CREEPS IN DEPARTMENT -
Deadly Vapor ??“ Both Natural
and Paranormal
Fog has played a starring role
in countless horror and science fiction films. It provides a creepy
atmosphere or a thick vaporous curtain out of which can appear a
stalking vampire, a stumble of zombies, a clawing monster or a troupe of
aliens. The fog masks the unknown.
It can also kill.
Untold numbers of shipwrecks and car accidents have been attributed to
the reduced visibility that fogs create. Ships rely on lighthouses and
other beacons to help them through. And in San Francisco, drivers have
The Emergency Fog Alert System, an array of webcams that keep vigil for
the arrival of fog from the bay. A whole slew of car accidents and
numerous deaths were blamed on fog near Calhoun, Tennessee from the
early 1970s to the 1990s. In this case the fog was intensified by
the polluting output of a local paper plant.
There have also been numerous cases in which fog has killed people
directly. In virtually every case, these killer fogs have been the
carriers of industrial atmospheric pollution:
* Sixty Belgians were killed in 1930 when fog
conditions concentrated pollutants in the Meuse Valley for six days.
* Nearly half the population of Donora and Webster,
Pennsylvania were sickened in late October, 1948 by a fog that held
industrial pollution in the small towns. So dense was the fog that one
could not see clearly across a city street. The death toll: 20 lives.
* Thousands of Londoners were killed in December,
1952 when a toxic fog descended on the English capital. The fog,
carrying a deadly mixture of dense coal smoke, literally poisoned the
populace and is still considered one of the deadliest environmental
incidents on record. The black fog was so thick that some reported they
could not even see their feet as they walked the London streets. The
lethal fog lasted from December 5 to the 9th, and in the end as many as
12,000 were dead from its effects.
* On May 3, 1989, the residents of Culham in
Oxfordshire, England were plagued by nosebleeds and sore throats due to
a thick fog that clouded the village. (Source: The World??™s Most
Incredible Stories, 1992, Barnes & Noble Books.)
* In mid-October, 2005, the city of Lagos, Nigeria
was enveloped in a mysterious fog that caused serious illness. After
people began complaining of severe stomach pains and eye irritation, the
governor of the region closed all the city schools as a precaution.
People were driven out of their places of work because of the bad odor,
and visibility in some places was reduced to 100 meters. Laboratory
tests of the fog vapor showed that it contained high levels of sulphuric
acid. A broken petroleum pipe might have been the cause.
Occasionally, fog kills even without pollutants. A fog bank killed more
than 5,000 songbirds over the Bay of Fundy, between New Brunswick and
Nova Scotia, Canada in June, 2004. The birds apparently died of
hypothermia when they flew into the cold fog. Lobster fisherman said the
birds were just dropping from the sky, some landing dead on their boats.
That??™s normal fog and pollution. But there are kinds of fog that form
in the realm of the paranormal ??“ and the effects can be even stranger.
There??™s fog that forms when condensed water droplets swirl in the air
close to the ground. And then there??™s fog that materializes from
dimensions unknown.
Time Storms
A glowing fog bank that transports those who enter it across time and
dimensions sounds like the premise of a science fiction thriller. In her
book, Time Storms: Amazing Evidence for Time Warps, Space Rifts, and
Time Travel, however, author Jenny Randles makes a compelling case that
these strange fogs really do exist. She documents many incidents in
which unsuspecting people, while either driving, walking or otherwise
going about their business, encountered a glowing white mist. In some
cases, these people disappeared only to reappear sometime later in a
state of bewilderment.
One driver was transported over 600 miles from where he entered
the glowing fog.
One of our readers, calling herself Cher, tells of her own possible
encounter with this peculiar fog: ???I was leaving my driveway to drive
one mile to town. I had just pulled out and there was a thick fog
rolling in. I had only gone a half a block at most very slowly when I
saw a very bright light through the fog. As I drove closer, I saw a
Phillips 66 gas station. It wasn't there the day before. I pulled into
it in shock and a man came out. I asked him how a gas station could have
been built so fast and he looked at me strangely. He said it had been
there for eight years. I asked him where I was and when he told me I
began to shake uncontrollaby. I was 300 miles from home!???

Disappearing Battalion
Three soldiers witnessed the bizarre disappearance of an entire
battalion in 1915 when a fog bank seemed to swallow them up. It occurred
during the infamous Gallipoli campaign of WWI. Three members of a New
Zealand field company watched as a battalion of the Royal Norfolk
Regiment marched up a hillside in Suvla Bay, Turkey into the fog. They
never came out. After the last of the battalion had entered the cloud,
they said, it slowly lifted off the hillside to join other clouds in the
sky. Their disappearance has never been accounted for.
Ghosts from the Fog
Ariele D. tells the story of an apparition that came out of a light
blue fog: ???It was mid-June around 5:00 p.m. and I was riding my stallion
back from my neighbor's house. When I got about one mile from my
neighbor's home, I thought I saw something a little farther ahead. It
looked like a small amount of light blue fog. I slowly got off my horse
and walked with him toward the foggy substance. When I got within about
eight yards or so of it, I was stuck in my tracks with fear. I was
terrified because I had never had an experience quite like this one
before (with a ghost). He looked around 25 or maybe a little older. His
skin was spotted like he had been burned. He was wearing old clothes;
his pants looked sort of like chaps, but it was hard to tell because I
was too busy looking at his face. I had just enough time to get a good
look and he disappeared, sort of vanishing slowly like the fog he was in
was swept away in a gust of wind.???
The Fog and The Bermuda Triangle
Is an ???electronic fog??? responsible for many of the unexplained
incidents and disappearances in the infamous Bermuda Triangle? That is
the assertion made by Rob MacGregor and Bruce Gernon in their book The
Fog (Llewellyn Worldwide, 2005).
Gernon himself is a first-hand witness and survivor of this strange
phenomenon. On December 4, 1970, he and his dad were flying their
Bonanza A36 over the Bahamas. On route to Bimini they encountered
strange cloud phenomena, particularly a tunnel-shaped vortex, the sides
of which the planes wings scraped as they flew. For about 10 seconds,
Gernon felt as if he were experiencing zero gravity. All of the plane??™s
electronic and magnetic navigational instruments malfunctioned. The
magnetic compass spun inexplicably. As they neared the end of the
tunnel, they expected to see clear blue sky. Instead, they saw only a
dull grayish white for miles ??“ no ocean, sky or horizon. After flying
for 34 minutes, a time corroborated by every clock on board, they found
themselves over Miami Beach ??“ a flight that normally would have taken 75
minutes.
MacGregor and Gernon believe that this electronic fog that Gernon
experienced may have also been responsible for the famous disappearance
of Flight 19, and other vanishing aircraft and ships.
Beware the fog!

SECRET BLACK PROJECTS DEPARTMENT -
The Mysterious TR-3B - Govt
UFO
Editor's Note: This reprint of the TR-3B specifications claim is based
on information generally credited to Edgar Fouche, who claimed
involvement with this project in the 1990's. We make no claims about
whether this is factually accurate or not, but this story becomes more
interesting as time progesses. What was originally considered to be a
"wacky UFO-claim" seems to be the benefactor of a great deal of
coincidence as AG research moves forward.
Simply put, the TR-3B's claim to use an MHD torus filled with a
"virtual plasma" of high-pressure mercury is strikingly similar to the
unrelated claims of Igor Witkoski about the construction of the Nazi
Bell device, as well as anecdotal evidence relating to other instances
of AG-effects in mercury in the presence of RF-fields. Additionally, a
plasma-toroid is the only means of replicating some aspects of Eugene
Podkletnov's superconductor experiments on a larger scale than
achievable through traditional Type-II ceramic superconductors (plasma's
and SC's both absorb magnetic field lines). It should be noted that none
of the invidividuals in any of these claims were aware of each other's
existence when they published their work, making the similarities quite
striking...
The tactical reconnaissance TR-3B's (code-named Astra) first
operational flight was in the early 90s. The triangular shaped nuclear
powered aerospace platform was developed under the Top Secret, Aurora
Program with SDI and black budget monies. At least 3 of the billion
dollar plus TR-3Bs were flying by 1994. The Aurora is the most
classified aerospace development program in existence. The TR-3B is the
most exotic vehicle created by the Aurora Program. It is funded and
operationally tasked by the National Reconnaissance Office, the NSA, and
the CIA. The TR-3B flying triangle is not fiction and was built with
technology available in the mid 80s.Not every UFO spotted is one of
theirs.
The TR-3B vehicle??™s outer coating is reactive to electricalRadar
stimulation and can change reflectiveness, radar absorptiveness, and
color. This polymer skin, when used in conjunction with the TR-3Bs
Electronic Counter Measures and, ECCM, can make the vehicle look like a
small aircraft, or a flying cylinder--or even trick radar receivers into
falsely detecting a variety of aircraft, no aircraft, or several
aircraft at various locations.A circular, plasma filled accelerator ring
called the Magnetic Field Disrupter, surrounds the rotatable crew
compartment and is far ahead of any imaginable technology.
Sandia and Livermore laboratories developed the reverse engineered MFD
technology. The government will go to any lengths to protect this
technology. The plasma, mercury based, is pressurized at 250,000
atmospheres at a temperature of 150 degrees Kelvin and accelerated to
50,000 rpm to create a super-conductive plasma with the resulting
gravity disruption. The MFD generates a magnetic vortex field, which
disrupts or neutralizes the effects of gravity on mass within proximity,
by 89 percent. Do not misunderstand. This is not antigravity.
Anti-gravity provides a repulsive force that can be used for propulsion.
The MFD creates a disruption of the Earth's gravitational field upon the
mass within the circular accelerator. The mass of the circular
accelerator and all mass within the accelerator, such as the crew
capsule, avionics, MFD systems, fuels, crew environmental systems, and
the nuclear reactor, are reduced by 89%.This causes the effect of making
the vehicle extremely light and able to outperform and outmaneuver any
craft yet constructed--except, of course, those UFOs we did not build.
The TR-3B is a high altitude, stealth, reconnaissance platform with an
indefinite loiter time. Once you get it up there at speed, it doesn??™t
take much propulsion to maintain altitude. At Groom Lake their have been
whispered rumours of a new element that acts as a catalyst to the
plasma. With the vehicle mass reduced by 89%, the craft can travel at
Mach 9, vertically or horizontally. My sources say the performance is
limited only the stresses that the human pilots can endure. Which is a
lot, really, considering along with the 89% reduction in mass, the G
forces are also reduced by 89%.
The TR-3Bs propulsion is provided by 3 multimode thrusters mounted at
each bottom corner of the triangular platform. The TR-3 is a sub-Mach 9
vehicle until it reaches altitudes above l20,000 feet--then God knows
how fast it can go!The 3 multimode rocket engines mounted under each
corner of the craft use hydrogen or methane and oxygen as a
propellent.In a liquid oxygen/hydrogen rocket system, 85% of the
propellent mass is oxygen. The nuclear thermal rocket engine uses a
hydrogen propellent, augmented with oxygen for additional thrust. The
reactor heats the liquid hydrogen and injects liquid oxygen in the
supersonic nozzle, so that the hydrogen burns concurrently in the liquid
oxygen afterburner. The multimode propulsion system can; operate in the
atmosphere, with thrust provided by the nuclear reactor, in the upper
atmosphere, with hydrogen propulsion, and in orbit, with the combined
hydrogen oxygen propulsion.
What you have to remember is, that the 3 rocket engines only have to
propel 11 percent of the mass of the Top Secret TR-3B. The engines are
reportedly built by Rockwell. Many sightings of triangular UFOs are not
alien vehicles but the top secret TR-3B. The NSA, NRO, CIA, and USAF
have been playing a shell game with aircraft nomenclature - creating the
TR-3, modified to the TR-3A, the TR-3B, and the Teir 2, 3, and 4, with
suffixes like Plus or Minus added on to confuse further the fact that
each of these designators is a different aircraft and not the same
aerospace vehicle. A TR-3B is as different from a TR-3A as a banana is
from a grape. Some of these vehicles are manned and others are unmanned.

A HAUNTING WE WILL GO DEPARTMENT -
Ghostly Woman Appears in
Lajas, Puerto Rico
On Tuesday, October 11, 2005, Enrique (Quique) Ortiz, a librarian with
the La Parguera Library, phoned me to put me in touch with youhg
Francisco Feliu, eyewitness to a ghostly manifestation that has been
taking place since Saturday, October 8, 2005 on Route PR 101 in Barrio
El Tendal, Lajas, Puerto RIco.
According to Francisco's report, and the reports of dozens of witnesses
interviewed by this research team (consisting of Andrew Alvarez, Orlando
Pla, Ana Rios, Daniel Altieri and the undersigned, Lucy Guzman),
indicate that the manifestation occurs between 12 midnight and 04:00
hours, approximately.
The legend states that a woman died in a car accident in the 1990s. A
cross was placed on the site, and that a horse tore up the cross with
its reins. The woman has been appearing since then.
On the morning of October 13, at 1:58 a.m., Francisco phoned me full of
excitement, as he was at the scene of the events and the manifestation
was taking place. I was able to speak to the police officers and other
eyewitnesses on site, and listen to the reactions of those present at
the time. The police barred anyone from approaching the bridge. I spoke
with officer Alexis Salinas over the cell phone, being the officer on
duty at the time, who confirmed the apparition was taking place.
I requested authorization to have Robert (Bebé) Adley and
Edward Camacho (a 22 year-old student from Universidad de Mayagüez
and a resident of La Parguera, Lajas, P.R.) to visit the bridge and
document the phenomenon, which he accepted. With Bebe on the bridge,
Edward approached him, all the while documenting the apparition on
videotape. Those present could see how the "mysterious woman" came out
to the highway, circled Bebe, withdrew, went away, etc. Bebe was unable
to see her, but those standing further away, at a 70 foot distance,
could see her and hear her scream, calling for her mother or for
"Pablo". Edward's video camera was also able to capture the image and
record the screams.
A description of what was seen on the 11th, according to eyewitness
testimony:
If there is someone on the bridge, or seated on its edge, the woman
will sit beside him/her but cannot be seen. However, those standing some
70 feet away can see her as a normal person, which is to say, fully
materialized but without a face or feet. They can alert those beside
her, but they cannot see her.
- The apparition always appears in an extremely clean white robe
- The clothing moves, or she smoothes it out
- She walks both slowly and quickly
- There is no face visible; she tosses her hair over her face
- Feet cannot be seen
- She claps
- Has very long black hair
- Cries loudly (a scream or cry can be heard when she first appears)
- Laughs
- Shouts out names like: María, Pablo, Carlos,
Mamá, Papá, always dragging the final syllable
- Jumps
- Dances
- Hides
- Jumps backward off the bridge (there is a small stream and a large
pipe under the bridge from which she jumps)
- Leaves no footprints
- Drags her feet
- Walks the perimeter some 20 feet
- Materializes behind trees, bridge or on the highway
- Falls to the ground in a fetal position
- Some say she looks like [character from] Lord of the Rings
- Floats with feet in the air
- Those who visit the site perceive a smell of sulfur. They compare the
odor to that of charcoal when smoking an item. The odor adheres to the
skin and clothing of those who stand near her.
- Temperature drops when she appears
- Figure appears to crawl.
[The figure] never leaves the bridge area, moving exclusively in that
area. People keep away for this very reason, although on some occasions
they had the impression that she was approaching them, but withdrew.
On the night of October 13 to the early hours of October 14, our
research team went to investigate this apparition. At least a thousand
people had congregated that evening. Lt. Villanueva had to file a
complaint in order to justify calling in more police reinforcements and
the Crash Squad. There were no manifestations that evening, but our
camcorders managed to pick up some anomalies that are currently under
analysis.
The apparition and diffusion [of this case] in all news media has
caused the number of curiosity seekers to jump from 20 on Saturday to
over 1000 the next Friday. This has caused municipal, state, crash squad
and emergency management personnel to be mobilized, and having
floodlights placed throughout the area. The site has turned into a town
fair that attracts thousands and where T-shirts bearing a drawing of the
ghostly woman are sold, along with refreshments, shish kebabs, water,
pineapples and other treats.
Camacho's video has already been analyzed and was submitted for
validation. We are also in the process (thanks to the collaboration of
officer Alexis Salinas, Karina Guerra Mayoral, Dennis Rivera
Santiago and the relatives of the young woman who died on the spot in
the 1990s) of researching the information on the accident that took
place at the location.
We must return to the site, but when so many thousands of people have
stopped visiting it. The conclusions of the investigation will be made
known in due time.

DEMONS OF THE MIND DEPARTMENT -
Human Living Vampires -
What Investigators Need to Know
Forensic Nurses, regardless of
their practice area, will at times come in contact with the same types
of deviant behavior. Some of these behaviors may be considered rare or
even non-existent. It is to our benefit that we share our investigative
experiences with these cases. Vampirism is one such behavior.
In the modern age, vampires have become media stars. The word "vampire"
became a household name in 1897 after the publication of "Dracula."1
More recently, the vampire novels by Anne Rice have become best
sellers.2 Television shows such as "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer" and
movies with vampire themes are increasingly popular. However the
popularity of these characters can lead some people, teenagers in
particular, down a dangerous road.
Case Study
A 17-year-old white male was found unresponsive in his bedroom by his
parents. He was on his knees, on the floor, with his head resting on the
bed. A call was placed to 9-1-1 and emergency medical services (EMS)
transported him to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead in the
emergency room (ER). The deceased was noted to have a history of ADD and
had been prescribed Prozac and Adderral. He was a very popular teenager
who was active in many high school activities. He had recently lost
Internet privileges and the Internet name he used was "Vampireboy."
During the scene investigation a black and white composition book was
found next to his bed. In this 40-page journal, which was written in
long hand, the deceased described himself as a "Vampiresis." In great
detail, he described how he became a Vampiresis and instructs others to
do the same. A sample bottle of Zoloft was found in his bathroom. At
autopsy it was noted that the canine teeth appeared to have been filed.
Sixteen ounces of blood was found in the stomach and 4 ounces of mucoid
bloody fluid was found in the duodenum. There were no signs of
ulceration or other cause for bleeding.
Mythical Vampires vs. Clinical Vampirism
There are beliefs and superstitions regarding vampires that date back
to medieval Europe. The vampire is thought to be of Slavic origin. They
are fictional characters that are believed to be evil spirits that have
been refused entry into another world after death because of some
unsuitable behavior. They must drink the blood of the living in order to
sustain themselves. These mythical characters live in cemeteries and
only leave their gravesite at night. They do not have a real identity
and therefore do not cast a shadow or a reflection in a mirror. If
bitten by a vampire, you could become one. Vampires are immortal beings
that can only be killed with a wooden stake that must be stabbed through
their heart.3
Reported in the medical literature for more than a century and named
after the mythical vampire, clinical vampirism is a recognizable,
although rare, clinical entity characterized by periodic compulsive
blood drinking and an affinity with death.3 The cases documented in the
medical literature only refer to those cases in which there is obvious
psychosis. Very little has been written about vampire subcultures in
which individuals pretend to be and act out vampire-like
characteristics. In those cases in which there is psychosis, the
patients have an irresistible urge for blood ingestion, which is a
ritual that brings them relief. They are attracted to death, not because
they want to bring release to any suffering, but because they wish to
experience it as a "living dead" being.3
Clinical vampirism groups some of the most shocking pathological
behaviors observed. It is one of the few pathological manifestations
that blends myth and reality in dramatic fashion and contains many
possible elements including schizophrenia, psychopathic and perverse
features.4 Vampirism and sexual behavior are clearly linked. The "love
bite," which is considered normal and a fairly common sign of affection,
should be an interesting topic of discussion among sexual assault nurses
examiners (SANEs) and other investigators who examine bite marks.4
Medical Cases
The documented cases in the medical literature reveal similar findings.
It has been noted that these individuals get sexual satisfaction from
drinking blood. They believe that by drinking blood they will have an
increase in strength and immunity prolonging their life. In many cases
the individual enjoyed drinking their own blood, known as "auto
vampirism."4 Vampirism is not thought to be the primary symptom of a
psychiatric or psychopathic disorder.3 The condition is not likely to be
discovered except in criminal cases where evidence is restricted by
judicial ruling or by chance via psychiatric examination or surgical
treatment of self-inflicted injuries. This may be the reason why so few
cases are reported in the medical literature. Forensic psychiatrist Dr.
R.S. McCully, at the Medical University of South Carolina, treated a
28-year-old male. It was reported that since the age of puberty he began
masturbating and took erotic satisfaction in seeing his own blood. With
practice he was able to direct blood spurts into his mouth.5
A case involving a woman who was four months pregnant also was
reported. This patient was repeatedly hospitalized for vomiting large
amounts of blood and enjoyed the sight of this blood. Blood transfusions
were ordered and the patient would unhook them, stating she would rather
drink the blood. Initially the cause for the bleeding was unknown.
Later, a mouth exam revealed several bleeding wounds at the base of her
tongue. The patient would suck at these wounds and swallow the blood.
After her death, an autopsy revealed a stomach bloated with blood.2
In other documented cases, inmates in correctional institutions were
caught trying to steal iron tablets. The inmates feared developing
anemia, as another inmate had been trading sexual favors with the
inmates for the opportunity to suck their blood.
Criminal Cases
Many criminal cases have been reported involving cases of vampirism. A
few well-documented cases include the following. In 1996, a group of
five teenagers from Kentucky were charged with first-degree murder in
Florida, for killing the parents of one of the members. The five
belonged to a cult thought to have 35 members in Kentucky. One year
prior to the murder this group began playing a popular game called
"Vampire, the Masquerade." This clan called themselves the "Victorian
Age Masquerade Performance Society" or VAMPS. The leader engaged the
group and others, in drugs, group sex and violence, which was masked by
what was thought to be a theater group.6
In San Francisco in 1987 a student was jogging when he was forced into
a van. The assailant slashed his cheek, drank his blood and then
released him without further harm.7 In 2002, a 19-year-old in Virginia,
was charged with murder after stabbing another person 30 times. In his
police confession he mentioned vampirism and stated that the taste of
the deceased's blood drove him into a frenzy.8
Vampire Subculture
When vampirism is embedded in a psychopathic personality disorder the
potential for extremely dangerous behavior is compounded as seen in the
above criminal cases. Many of theses cases involve obvious psychosis,
however there is a subculture of individuals who practice vampirism out
of choice and preference.
Contemporary interest in vampire-like cults began out of several
role-playing games such as "Masquerade" and "Dungeons & Dragons."
During many of these role-playing games, the participants want to be
among the chosen beings. This can lead to a far-fetched psychological
dependence. These participants are often individuals who are outcasts
and are looking for an opportunity to belong to a group. These
"wanna-bes" believe that by sharing their blood with other participants
they will become one with that person. By sharing their life source,
their blood, they in essence are bound for life and become one soul.
Many of these individuals have no psychiatric history, however they are
seeking close relationships with other people and want to belong to a
group. This behavior for many is an attention seeking behavior.
Those persons looking for others to connect with have easy access to
many others via the Internet. There are hundreds of Web sites where
those who are curious about vampirism can go to gain information and
network with others. Many of these Web sites offer live chat rooms and
bulletin boards where messages are posted by those wanting to be blood
donors or those wanting to be a receiver of others blood. Many magazines
focus on the paranormal and include articles on vampirism. Individuals
and groups who try to educate and promote vampirism publish newsletters
on the subject. Teens today are modeling themselves after media stars
who engage in vampiristic practices. According to the Associated Press,
actors Angelina Jolie and Bill Bob Thornton, used to wear around their
necks glass vials containing each other's blood.9 Teenagers model the
behavior of these personalities in the hopes of acquiring the traits of
the stars and vampires in general. Vampires fascinate many adolescents.
Investigative Suggestions
When investigating cases with vampiristic overtones, there are a few
things to look for.
"Book of Shadows." These books are blank journals in which the
individual writes his or her thoughts similar to a diary. Often, black
and white composition books are used; however, in some paranormal
specialty stores journal books can be purchased that are titled "Book of
Shadows" on the cover. The writing in the books often has to do to with
paranormal activity, which may include vampirism. The owner of the book
will often quote song lyrics, draw pictures and provide instruction to
potential readers as to how to follow in their footsteps. The drawings
may be symbols that represent vampirism.
Dental Records. Dental records can be obtained to determine whether the
individual has filed his or her teeth. By obtaining dental records from
the earliest known dental visit, it can be determined if the teeth have
been sharpened. Unfortunately, since many of these participants are
teenagers, the dental records available may be minimal.
Non-human blood tests. Blood tests can be used to determine if a blood
sample is that of human blood or animal blood. Investigators need to
speak directly with the laboratory technician to determine the
capability of the lab in testing for the animal about which you may be
concerned. During the investigation for the case study presented, a
blood sample was sent to a forensic science lab with a request to
determine if the blood may be pig's blood. This lab did not have the
capabilities to complete that request and the sample had to be sent to
another lab.
Conclusion
The practice of vampirism can be dangerous for those who choose to act
out characteristics of these mythical characters. Vampirism can also be
dangerous to others if this practice is mixed with psychosis. For many
teenagers who become involved in these activities, there can be
confusion when myth and reality are blended. In the aforementioned case
study, it was determined that this teenager died as the result of a
Prozac and Zoloft overdose. The tests to determine the source of the
blood in the stomach were inconclusive. Friends of the deceased stated
that this teen and others dabbled in vampirism. They said this teenager
took it too far and began to believe that he was immortal.
Forensic nurse investigators may come in contact with these deviant
behaviors whether the individual is seeking medical attention, enters
the criminal justice system or if a victim enters one of these systems.
Montaque Summers once stated, "Cases of vampirism may be said to be in
our time a rare occult phenomenon. Yet whether we are justified in
supposing that they are less frequent today than in past centuries I am
far from certain. One thing is plain: not that they do not occur but
that they are carefully hushed up and stifled."10 To investigate these
cases thoroughly, we must first realize that the practice exists and
where to turn for assistance.
