This is not an April fools joke, but it is funny .... Enjoy! ************ You would think that modern age technology would make life easier, however it seems the simplest tasks have been installed to make life far more complex and complicated. I recently returned a DVD movie to my local library and picked up a new one. The next day I checked on my computer to find out if any of the other movies I ordered had come in. To my dismay a notice on my account conveyed that my account was overdue with the DVD I returned the previous day. I proceeded to the library and spoke to the guy who remembered me returning the movie. As the DVD was on a hold for someone else they had sent it out to another branch, so you would think there would be no problem to take the overdue notice out of my account, well think again. The librarian told me there was nothing he can do to take to overdue notice out of my account, but it would be automatically taken away when, an other person, from another branch, checks it out. He stated, I could speak with the chief librarian. Also, that a note had been put next to the overdue notice and no fine will be levied. I contended that I still do not like the idea of having an overdue notice on my account for no reason and asked to speak to the big chief. The big chief wandered over, then proceeded in divulging to me he traced the DVD number and the records state the DVD is in transit and will soon be at another branch waiting for another person to check it out. I replied, so if you have it on record, you know it has been returned, can you please take the overdue notice off my account. No, sorry, our rules state we have to physically scan the DVD before it can be taken off your account, he answered. The other librarian remembers I returned it yesterday and your computer malfunctioned so it did not take the DVD off my account Also, you have the reference number of the DVD and know where its location is, so please take the overdue notice of my account. On another note, many times the scanner does not work and the librarian has to type the numbers into the computer and that is all I am asking you to kindly do, was my response. Sorry can't do that, our rules will not let me, came his inflexible reply. Well, I could have gone on the merry-go-round with him for another hour or more but I realize when a person has a system in place, set in their mind, there is not a whole lot you can do about changing it, so why get irritated or frustrated. I thanked him for his help and thought to myself, I hope it is removed before March 3008 as I may have turned to dust by then. The good news is a few days later the overdue notice dissolved into thin cyber-air. This is only one small example of the multitude of unnecessary events and complicated situations that happens every day, to almost every person, unless they are holed up in a dark cave in the wilderness. Human society is plagued with time wasting developments such as, faulty merchandise complaints to customer dis-service representatives, long waits on the phone to speak with a hi-tech person in Kathmandu about flawed technical issues, erroneous billing practices by experts (experts because they practice so much erroneousness) who dream up ingenious unsound charges ... The list goes on and on ad infinitum. The best solution to events that are stubbornly unchangeable is to make light of them and treat them all as a comedy of errors, because, in time, all will pass. Oh, by the way, did I mention the title of the DVD movie that caused the bother. It was a comedy - Two Days in Paris. Perhaps that movie has a new realism that comes with it making you sense you are getting the feel and flavor of being in Paris with delectable French service? ... Parlez_vous fran?ais? ************ THE JOYS OF LIVE ALCHEMY - 37 keys to an enjoyable life you need to know before you kick the bucket http://pointoflife. ############ An Inspirational Entry From The Goody Two Shoes Contest A Dad's Love by Jessica Kennedy From the time I was eight until 21 years old, I yearned for a father. When I was seventeen, my mother married for the fifth time, and I expected this man to be a poor father like his predecessors. The walls I built to protect my heart came down slowly. He did not attempt to tear them down, but little by little, he weakened them with patient loving kindness. He taught me to play golf and helped me catch the wild kittens that hid in our garage. I loved the fettuccini he made, that is, until he cooked it twice a week for dinner after I told him how good it was. He held me while I sobbed, because I had never known my father, and I held him when he cried, because he had not been able to spend enough time with his daughter after his divorce. The fact that I quit high school never swayed his belief in me. He gently nudged me to seek higher goals. Throughout junior college he tutored me in algebra, economics, statistics and philosophy. With encouragement such as "You can do it" and "You're so smart," I believed anything was possible. Beaming with pride, he clapped and cheered the day I walked across the stage and received my Bachelor of Arts degree in history. The year prior to my graduation, I asked Steve to adopt me. Tears slid down both our faces as he hugged me and said, "I'd love to." Five years after he adopted me for my twenty_first birthday, I had a brainstem stroke and became a ventilator_dependen I had care givers from eight to five each weekday, and during those hours he caught up on sleep, ran errands, scheduled my medical appointments, filed insurance claims, cleaned the house and cooked dinner. In the evenings and on weekends, he fed me and gave me fluids every two hours, and cleared my lungs at least every three hours to help me breathe. He slept in the extra bed that was placed in my room in case I needed help during the night. Many times when I was sick, he would wake every 45 minutes to assist me. When I was well, he still got up with me once or twice a night, giving me a smile, making me feel loved. I was unable to speak, so I made a clicking sound with my tongue to call for assistance many times each evening and throughout the days on weekends. Regardless of the reason I summoned him, he came, whether it was to straighten my covers, adjust my shoe splints, apply lip balm, clear my lungs or tend to me in any one of a million ways. Out of the endless nights Steve took care of me, only once did I hear him grumble "Damn." This was after I contracted an upper respiratory infection that lingered for two weeks, and he was exhausted from getting up every 30 minutes to clear my lungs of the mucous lodged in my trachea. Never again did I hear him complain. He has never shown resentment or anger, yet he is only human and had to have felt it at some point in the past seven years. Whatever I wanted or needed became his top priority. When the days were long and my spirit became defeated by the vagaries of my disabilities, Steve selflessly wiped away my self_pity and made me feel wanted and deserving of his love and a life. He made the unbearable, bearable by simply being my dad. Today, tomorrow, and always, I will cherish the gift of his love. ************ INVEST WITH A GENIUS -Why live a life of lack when you can live a joyful life of a-bun-dance. http://pointoflife. ############ This is Our Story by Michael Levy Live life on a higher level, one that cannot be accessed by the devil, it makes him dizzy, it knocks him sick, he'll run a mile, he can't perform his trick, a simple soul, with a joy filled goal, does not know what worry means, tastes a banquet in a plate of beans, smiley face, not a care to trace, real cool living in a miracle place, we may accept life as a pleasure or a pain, so we must take care of what our mind contains there are no problems aboard spirits plane, the tickets are free, in a land without blame, tailor our lives, to make our own luck, sometime, it will need, a nip and a tuck, cut our cloth, in wisdom's pattern of glory, design a success, for this is our life story. ************ Web sites of the Month BOLOJI Read all about it! Moreover why do others try to compete with the giver of their gift and make up their own agenda that exists outside the mind of God."_Michael Levy .
