The Wake Up Call by Michael Levy

Every so often an event occurs in a persons life that makes them wake up to the notion that what they believe in all their life may be false. To illustrate that point I can relate to an incident that happened a few years ago which helped a woman understand there is more to life and death than meets the eye.

One sunny day in spring, about ten years ago, an old friend from my home town in the UK called me on the phone. I will call him John and his wife Jane to protect their real names. John told me his mother-in law was dying and she lived about 15 miles from my home. He and Jane were staying with her until she passed away and would continue to own the condo as a vacation retreat.

I visited him a few days later when she passed, to consol him and his wife. Half way through my supporting chat, Jane left the room and did not return. He called me the next day to apologize and he told me she did not believe in mumbo jumbo of life after death or any other such spiritual nonsense. Although he was also skeptical he kept an open mind on such matters.

That was the last I heard from him for five years. Then one day out of the blue he called me up and said he was staying in his inherited apartment and would like me to come over to talk about old times on the golf course. I thought, why not, so that afternoon I called round to see him. We met in the lobby of his condo as he made an excuse that his wife was not feeling well and we can chat in the condo library. Before talking about "The good old days" He explained his wife is in a science related job and she is a dedicated atheist. He thought with her mother dying I may have softened her approach to the mystical side of existence.

I conveyed that it is impossible to open a closed shop without the proprietors permission. When a person is stuck with what they believe is their own personal truths, then that is what they will believe, until the real truth somehow forces its way though the blockade in the mind-set. Occasionally veracity does get through but most times it does not penetrate individual convictions.

We then got on to lighter chit-chat and an hour later I was about to say my goodbyes when the door of the library burst open and his wife, whose face was as white as a ghost, ran into the room, tears were running down her cheek as she declared; you are not going to believe what just happened to me.

She sat down on the sofa next to me and disclosed to me the following experience... The week my mother died John lost a valuable gold watch his children had given him for his 50th birthday. It was inscribed with all their names and it held a sentimental spot in his heart. A half-hour ago I was sat in a chair staring out the window in a depressed state of mind. When I get in to depressive moods I feel sleepy and usually doze off and have weird dreams. This time I was sleepy, nevertheless was fully conscious of what I was thinking. As I looked out the widow with my eyes wide open a vision of my mother came into focus. I then heard her speak to me as clear as I am speaking to you.

She told me how much she still loves me and John and that she knows how upset he is about losing the gold watch. She told me to stand up and go into the closet. On the top shelf is John's briefcase that he always carries wherever he travels. She instructed me to open the back pocket compartment that had a zip on it. At the bottom of the pocket, the corner had stuck together with some gum. She told me to pull it apart and the watch will be found.

With that Jane opened her hand and there was Johns watch. The time on it was 4.30 and we looked at our watches and it was 4.30 on the dot. She gave me a big hug and asked where could she find out more about what had just taken place. I replied, look deep within yourself for those answers ... Today you have experienced an awakening of part of you that has been on hold most of your life.

Today you have experienced a natural awakening of part of you that has been on hold most of your normal life.

Summer Images in Meadows of Silence. by Michael Levy

Secrets of the soul pluck mindful strings

circulating glorious contemplation

beyond the intent of mortal conduct

summer's foliage give-n-take vitality

eccentricity in a metropolis of joy

where empty silence creates a pandemonium

nature of the good earth struts

the gilded catwalk of universal fashion

designs of colorful love

gravitate blossom filled meadows

drumming a heartfelt beat

certifying richness beyond compare

listen to the stillness

rich with all to occur

mighty landscape of joy

strongholds of humanity

visions of splendor

basking in sunlight

 forever unspoken

birds-n-bees

flowers-n-trees

slow the rushing minds stare

desire of delight conceals the way of spring

pearls of gladness mask the howl of autumn

gloss of happiness hides the fortitude of winter

silky melody of summer is in the today.
