If A Dog Was Your Teacher

You would learn stuff like this:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Take naps and stretch before rising. Run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting, when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

When it's in your best interest - practice obedience.

Let others know when they've invaded your territory.

When you're happy, dance around and wiggle your entire body.

No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout -
run right back and make friends.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.

Stop when you have had enough.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you're not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by
and nuzzle them gently.

A Prayer for Animals
By Albert Schweitzer

Hear our humble prayer, O God,

For our friends the animals,
especially for animals who are suffering;
for any that are hnuted or lost
or deserted or frightened or hungry;
for all that must be put to sleep.

We entreat for them all
Thy mercy and pity,
and for those who deal with them
we ask a heart of compassion
and gentle hands and kindly words.

Make us be true friends to animals
and so to share
the blessings of the merciful.

Animals & Tsunami

From the unbelievable chaos of the Tsunami  disaster comes an
incredible  tale from Jim France of the Pavilion  Hotel Group in Bangkok.
At a  resort on Phuket, one of the most popular attractions is
(was) elephant rides.

As many  as eight people on one elephant, first  into the surrounding
forest, then down  to the beach, to lunch at a  fresh water lagoon,
then back to the hotel. The  elephants (nine) were  kept chained to
in-ground posts, not because they  needed to be, but  because it
made the mothers feel better because their  children seemed safe f
rom a tromping when feeding the beasts.

About twenty  minutes before the first wave hit, the elephants became
extremely  agitated and unruly. Four had just returned from a trip
and their handler's had not yet chained them. They helped the other
five tear  free  from their chains. They all then climbed a hill and started
bellowing. Many people followed them up the hill. Then the waves  hit.

After the waves subsided, the elephants charged down from the  hill,
and started picking up children with their trunks and running  them
back up the hill; when all the children were taken care of,  they started
helping the adults.  They rescued forty- two people. Then,  they returned
to the beach and carried up four dead bodies, one of a child.

Not until the task was done would they allow their handlers  to
mount them.  Then with handlers atop, they began moving  wreckage.
Many Super-Human and Super-Sentient capacities were being
exhibited through these Wonderful ElephantBeings including Divine
Love for one another and their fellow humans through the
transitions they were going through.

For me, this is another sign that  we will eventually awaken to
recognizing the animals as our  companions and conscious co-creators
of life on earth, instead  of beasts of burden, food and clothing.

Would You Eat Meat, Eggs or Milk from Cloned Animals?

To clone an animal, scientists start with a piece of ear skin and mince
it up in a lab. Then they induce the cells to divide in a culture dish
until they forget they are skin cells and regain their ability to express
all of their genes. Meanwhile, the nucleus is removed from a donor e
gg and placed next to a skin cell. Both are zapped with a tiny electric
shock, and if all goes well the egg grows into a genetic copy of the
original animal.

The FDA did its own study in 2003 and found that "food products
derived from animal clones and their offspring are probably as safe to
eat as food from their non-clone counterparts."

According to a survey last year by the International Food Information
Council, a trade group, 62% of consumers said they would be "very unlikely"
or "somewhat unlikely" to buy meat, milk and eggs from cloned animals.

A separate poll conducted by Gallup found that 64% of American
consumers believed cloning animals was "morally wrong."

As Carol Tucker Foreman, director of the Consumer Federation of
America's Food Policy Institute, explained: "The yuck factor is very large."

CLONED BEEF: "They will go into the food chain, no question, in six or eight
months" - Don Coover, a vet and semen broker, quoted in the Los Angeles
Times, Feb 10, 2005

Clone Your Kitty Cat?

If a cat is successfully cloned....does that mean it will now
have 18 Lives?

Genetic Savings & Clone is the only company to offer cloned pets
to paying customers, and five people have signed up this year
for what it calls its "Nine Lives Extravaganza" -- the chance to
clone a cat for $50,000.

Little Nicky is the first cloned cat to be sold as a pet in
the U.S. And yes, a Dallas woman did pay $50,000 to get
a carbon copy of her deceased cat, Nicky.

One Incredible Dog, Lady

As dog lovers, you would have done the same thing I did. My co-worker
needed a home for an unclaimed, 9-week-old diamondback Shepard
she found abandoned in the middle of a state park. So I took the
puppy in, named her Lady, and began the long, intensive process of
training her to trust me and other people. As soon as Lady got over
her fears of people she started showing extraordinary abilities.

One day my friend came over to bake cookies and brought his son
who was having motor difficulties. The boy was on the floor resting,
and when he couldn t get up Lady went behind him, pushed her
weight against his back, and helped him up. I ran out to buy every
book I could find on training and certifying therapy dogs and two years
later Lady and I are working 40 hours a week in a long-term care facility.

Lady cheers up patients and even helps with their physical therapy.
She continues amaze me, the staff, and patients with her intuition.
At work one night, Lady would not leave the side of a severely
depressed man who had been refusing to eat for ten days. I understood
that Lady can sense what humans sometimes cannot, so I let her stay
with him until we had to go home at 11pm. The next day I got a call
with news that the man had started to eat again.

Lady has had such an influence in people s lives that she prompted a
local author to write a children s book, One Incredible Dog! Lady,
about a day in her life. Now Lady is a busy dog, working full-time and
still managing to fit in paw-signings at schools and bookstores.
