Featured News 1: Firefighters told not to use ladders

Firefighters have been told not to use ladders to fit smoke alarms in homes - in case they fall.

Officers had been using householders' ladders to fit the alarms.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service bosses say this breaks new health and safety laws, reports the Sun.

Now, Fire Brigade Union officials have told officers not to use any equipment that householders suggest they borrow.

One firefighter said: "Going up ladders is second nature to us. It's crazy. We're more at risk decorating at home."

Another said: "Where will this end? Will we still be able to carry a rescued person down a ladder or enter a burning building without health and safety on our back?"

Featured News 2: Girl gets report from wrong school

A 12-year-old girl has received a report from a school she has never attended.

Sophie Bond, from Hurstpierpoint, West Sussex, got the report from Patcham High School.

The report praised Sophie's performance in English but said she was misbehaving in maths.

According to the BBC, her mother Diane said: "The school doesn't know whether Sophie is there or not but has quite clearly given her results. "

Sophie attended an induction day at the school in July last year but she took up a place at Oakmeeds Community College in Burgess Hill instead.

A spokeswoman for the school said: "Due to a change in computer systems and staffing, Sophie's name was regrettably not removed officially from our roll until a later date.

"Due to an administrative error, Sophie's report was confused with another student with the same name.”

"We are confident that measures are now in place to prevent this happening again."

Featured News 3: Patient fixes hospital machine

A Bosnian hospital patient spent seven hours repairing hospital machinery so his operation could go ahead.

Doctors had told car mechanic Slobodan Mocevic, 56, his operation to remove a kidney stone was cancelled because of faulty equipment.

Mocevic asked to borrow a set of tools and then stripped down and repaired the Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy machine at the hospital in Kasindol.

He said: "I was in agony, and there was no way I could have waited any longer."

The device removes kidney stones by sending a sonic wave through a patient's body to break up the stone.
