The American Dream...

After authoring a best selling novel that earns him a fortune, small town English teacher, John Smith, finds himself living the American dream. With his new wealth, he purchases a home in an exclusive neighborhood and befriends his elitist neighbors. John is initially fascinated by this materialistic culture in which the cost of a man's clothing, car, or possessions determines his worth.

The American Nightmare...

John soon discovers that his perfect little neighborhood has a horrible secret - his home's previous owner murdered his wife before disappearing. John is intrigued by the story until he begins finding evidence that someone has been entering his home at night. Has the old owner returned? When friends begin disappearing and the bodies pile up, only then does he begin to understand the horror that waits.

Something evil is happening on Shale Street...and money is at the root of it...

Has it really been two weeks since the last newsletter? Wow, time sure flies when you??™re stalking your next victim.

We??™ve been hard at work on the website. New this issue, are two article sections, Strange World and Writer to Writer. Strange World will feature articles dealing with the bizarre happenings throughout the world. You??™d be surprised what people do when they have too much time on their hands! Writer to Writer will feature writer related topics such as ???Writing Makes Sense??? by Laurel Starling; she explains the art of inserting the five senses into your stories. Also included, is what will be a regular writing exorcise called Dark and Twisted Prompts by Brigitta M. It??™s designed to get your brainpans greased up and ready to create. Check it out and share with us what you come up with. True History has a new piece by Cindy Lawrence called Sin Eating that makes me appreciate my boss a little more??¦not much, but a little. For more new stuff, refer to these sections: True Stories, In My Opinion, Book Reviews and Website reviews.

Are you proud to be a member of the Insidious Reflections family? Want to let the world know, but don??™t know how? Well, I??™ve got the solution for you. We??™ve ordered our first round of materials to create the first ever, official IR products. That??™s right! Now, you??™ll be able to display to the world who owns your soul. Keep a look out! The store will be open soon!

Like to think of yourself as an artist? Now??™s your chance to prove it! IR is holding it??™s first art contest. There will be twelve winners. Why twelve? Because that??™s how many months there are in a year! Still confused? Let me explain. The winning entries will be featured in the 2006 Insidious Reflections Calendar. Still have questions? Answer them here.

**INTERMISSION**
Stretch your legs, and go check on that guy you??™ve been keeping in the closet.
He may need more water in his dish.
**END INTERMISSION**

A Note From The Editor

Well, IR is still growing at an exceptional rate. The staff is hard at work trying to keep you entertained. If we??™ve done our job, you have been. By the time of the next issue of The Broken Mirror, the premiere issue of the IR eZine should be available to all of you. (1st eZine January 31st) We??™re excited about getting this beast out of it??™s cage and into your offices and computer rooms. Be careful though??¦it??™s not house broken. I??™m not sure what it eats, but??¦well, you get the picture.

The IR website is also in a constant state of flux. We will try to have something fresh and new each week, although from time to time, real life may get in the way of this. D??™Ann and I are expecting a new addition to the family within the next few weeks and that will certainly slow us down some. Plus we have the three-year-old who will probably think the baby is a new toy. That should be fun. Have you ever heard a three-year-old curse you out? Um??¦me neither??¦just asking. Never mind. We??™ll still try to keep things going though. There are already new articles and interviews in the works and should be ready for your greedy eyes in short order.

Oh, and if one of you happens to be the lady that tried to kill me with you idiotic driving on HWY 183 just outside of Austin last Tuesday morning??¦That wasn??™t me waving when I swerved around you, missing you??™re piece of crap car by mere centimeters. People usually wave with all of their fingers extended. Moron! Now??¦what was I saying? Oh yeah??¦

Thanks for sticking around, Constant Reader, and welcome to all of you who have joined us recently. Without you, none of this would have been possible. So, until next time, may your days be inspired with blood and your nights be??¦insidious.

*There may be things that crawl and slither and shrink back into the darkness before we become fully aware of them. This is not about those things. Perhaps there really are monsters, not the fleeting shadows that you may think you see when you are all alone, but real ones, living, breathing and existing among us unnoticed. It was once written that evil sleeps in our bed and dines at our table, and perhaps this is true. The Criminal Mind
