This week on Doc Talk Radio, the only radio show that exclusively focuses on the documentary filmmaking community and their amazing stories, we have two filmmakers that plunge right into the murky world of gender. First off we??™ll have Aron Cho, whose film ???The Good Movie??? chronicles his own and others??™ journey into gender bending and other topics. He was featured in Release Print magazine last month in an article titled ???The Delicate Art of Self-Exploitation???, and that gives you some idea what we??™re in for. Next, we??™ll have Laura Plotkin, whose film ???Red Rain??? follows the career of the boxer Gina ???Boom Boom??? Guidi. Gina came from a tough background to climb up the ranks of woman??™s boxing, and challenge female stereotypes and her own sexual identity along the way. As always, it??™s 8-10pm on Tuesday nights at 87.9FM. You can also catch the show online either at http://www.piratecatradio.com/site/listen.html, or using iTunes, under both the Eclectic and Public headings (the pirate cat link is usually more reliable, as there are many listening choices). Also be sure to check out our newly bolstered website, with archived shows, calendar, links, etc... http://www.doctalkradio.com Future Calendar March 29 ??“ Gender Enders with Aron Cho (director of ???The Good Movie???) and Laura Plotkin (???Red Rain???) April 5 ??“ Filmmaking as Activism with Gary Weimberg (director of ???The Double Life of Ernesto Gomez Gomez???) and Karil Daniels (???Voices of Dissent???) April 12 or 19 ??“ Special KQED Truly California Show with series producer Rachel Raney and filmmaker Frank Green (???Counting Sheep???) April 26 and May 3 ??“ San Francisco International Film Festival Guests May 10? ??“ Continuing KQED Truly California with Pepe Urquijo (???Fruit of Labor???) TBD ??“ Judy Irving, Director of ???The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill??? So far, our shows with great people like Elizabeth Thompson, Sam Green, Henry Rosenthal and Kevin Epps have been fantastic, encountering white supremacists, god, Hunter??™s Point and ???60s revolutionaries along the way. In case you missed it, we??™re doing a show both about and involving documentaries. Doc makers will come on the show, talk about the fascinating stories their docs are about, and play excerpts or entire docs on the air. They will also DJ related music, or tunes from the soundtrack so it ain??™t all talk. We??™re making a documentary, and we??™ll be talking about that on the air too but mostly interviewing documentary makers. It??™ll be like learning about filmmaking and the subjects of these films all at the same time! As always, you are urged to call in and talk to these amazing people at 415-401-7393. -Arne and Shane (please forward on to any docmakers you know who might wanna be on the show. Doc makers who have already contacted us, we??™re getting around to ya!) |
