Doc Talk Gets Very California

This week on Doc Talk Radio, the only radio show that exclusively focuses on
the documentary filmmaking community and their amazing stories, we will be
looking at portraits of people from the polar opposites of the California
experience.

First up is environmental activist
filmmaker Frank Green, Director of "Counting Sheep: A Celebration of
Wilderness". What happens when a protected predator threatens an endangered
prey? High in California's Sierra Nevada, the last few native bighorn sheep
are fighting for survival. Threats from mountain lions have forced wildlife
officials to take extraordinary measures to protect the bighorn. This is part
of the Truly California series, and series producer and filmmaker Rachel Raney
will also be on.

And then back to the big city from 9 to 10 we will be talking to Michael

This week on Doc Talk Radio, the only radio show that exclusively focuses on
the documentary filmmaking community and their amazing stories, we have two
filmmakers for whom filmmaking is a tool to change the world. First off we?? ll
have Gary Weimberg, whose film ???The Double Life of Ernesto Gomez Gomez??? was
a groundbreaking doc about the costs of standing for what you believe in. IT
concerns the story of a young man whose parents were Puerto Rican
revolutionaries, exiled and imprisoned as he grew up in Mexico. Next, Karil
Daniels will bring her doc ???Voices of Dissent???, a movie about the efforts
to preserve our right to disagree in an increasingly hostile atmosphere. As
always, it?? s 8-10pm on Tuesday nights at 87.9FM. You can also catch the show
This week on Doc Talk Radio, the only radio show that exclusively focuses on
the documentary filmmaking community and their amazing stories, we have two
filmmakers that plunge right into the murky world of gender. First off we?? ll
journey into gender bending and other topics. He was featured in Release Print
magazine last month in an article titled ???The Delicate Art of
Self-Exploitation???, and that gives you some idea what we?? re in for. Next,
we?? ll have Laura Plotkin, whose film ???Red Rain??? follows the career of the
boxer Gina ???Boom Boom??? Guidi. Gina came from a tough background to climb up
the ranks of woman?? s boxing, and challenge female stereotypes and her own
sexual identity along the way.

As always, it?? s 8-10pm on Tuesday nights at 87.9FM.
