I'm hoping there is another great project in the wind for this multi-talented team. The covers have been exceptional through the entire run with some by great artists like Steranko, Bernie Wrightson, Neal Adams, Gene Colan and Mike Kaluta to name a few. Glen Orbik has done a series of covers for the last act of this drama featuring a major character on each one. He has captured the essence of each one without copying the style of Claude and James, the interior artists. As for the interiors, it has been amazing how well this team works together. Claude is an amazing artist and the inks and colors compliment his work perfectly. The production values on this book are top notch and I would love to see these guys on another project real soon. Len Wein is masterful with the scripting chores. The recap of the story on the first page of each issue is done from a different perspective each issue, but always gives you the essential details so that anyone can pick up any issue and follow what is going on. Things are coming to a head as Claude Ballare has set his plan in motion and "The Hat", aka Lazlo Gerevich - the Victorian, is gathering a team and revealing his secret to some folks who knew him as a simple taxi driver with a cajun accent. The government is also about to strike against part of the plot which involves large amounts of counterfeit cash and a stolen submarine. The final piece is a huge machine that Ballare calls a cyclochronometer which no doubt will be the major obstacle our heroes will have to overcome. The series has been a wild ride with lots of action and mystery. There has been plotting and deception. People have been parading around as "The Hat" and killing people that are no longer useful. This has prejudiced the cops against Lazlo but now they are on the same side and hope they can stop Balare's evil scheme. It all wraps up next time and I can't wait. This is how really good comics are done. Everything is there - plot, development, characterization, conflict, resolution all backed up with the other half which is a superior art team. Grab this issue and the next to see what I mean. Then go out and get the collect trades to read it all from the start. It has a lot of the elements to make it a great series. The hero is a director's assistant, a young black man worried about the state of the world in late 1939. He received a gift when he handled a circular transparent stone in a sealed room in a Mayan ruin. The mysterious Element 115 gave him the power of flight. He has since had some adventures as Captain Gravity, a costume reminiscent of THE ROCKETEER, which disguises him and his skin color. Now he is the subject of a movie he is working on, with no one knowing the hero is in their midst. The plot of the story revolves around the swastika, symbol of Nazi Germany. But as our hero, Joshua Jones, learns it is also seen in various cultures through history, from Africa to the Americas. At a dinner with actress Chase Dubouis and her new boyfriend Jan Gunther he learns of Gunther's interest in the symbol and many of the varied occurrences of the symbol are displayed in his private collection. He know that the symbol means a lot to Gunther - and so do the government operatives who have been watching him, with Chance's help. Wether out of affection or concern, Joshua returns as Captain Gravity to watch out for Chance from high above and follows her to her rendezvous with the G-men. Now he knows the risk she is taking to learn the Nazi plans and makes a decision that will affect both their lives. I liked this first issue a lot. The art has a freshness to it that is unlike most other comics. There is a tone in the colors and a softness in the lines that fits the period of the story, The old costumes and trappings of that period are done well. The clandestine meetings are in moody shades while a revelation at the end is a sharp contrast to the rest of the book. The characters are interesting as is the plot. Six issues should be enough to give us a lot of thrills and surprises and I am glad to be here for the ride. Like the rest of the work from Penny Farthing Press this title is a quality entertaining product. Get now while you can. It will be a comic with over 100 pages in full color featuring the work of Mike Kunkel, Ty Templeton, Martin Montiel, Arad Injejikian, Joshua Dysart, Ryan Woodward and more; including Mr. Decoy himself, Courtney Huddleston. Now, Decoy is an alien who was banished to Earth and saved the life of a Rookie cop which forged a symbiosis between them. He is a cute little guy with large oval vertical eyes and a single antenna on his head. He can actually merge into Bobby Luck so others do not know he is there. Together they have adventures while Bobby tries to keep from getting fired. He has a crush on his partner Tessa and Decoy has others looking for him for their own reasons. The regular series of mini-series has been fun. There is comedy and adventure and always finely crafted art. Now a whole bunch of people get to play with the characters. This ashcan has no dialogue so you only get to see what the art will be like.
