EAGLE AWARDS 2004

PRESS RELEASE
27 August, 2004

INTRODUCED in 1976, the Eagles are the comics industry's longest
established awards. Acknowledged as the pre-eminent international
prizes, they have been featured on the covers of leading US and UK
titles across the last 28 years ranging from Uncanny X-Men and
Swamp Thing to MAD and 2000AD.

Unique in the comics industry in that they reflect both the
professional and the reader's choice, the Eagle Awards comprise of
two distinct stages: The nominations are made by the professional
community, and then their top three personal favourites appear on
the voting form for the readers and fans to choose their overall
favourites.

"I've always been proud of the recognition the Eagles have
received from publishers and creators. Now, with online voting,
I'm confident the results will present an even more accurate
reflection of fan favourites," says Eagle Awards founder and
current coordinator, Mike Conroy, news editor of Comics
International and author of the soon-to-be reprinted
Chrysalis/Barron's 500 Great Comicbook Action Heroes.

Asked why the categories are headed "favourite" rather than the
more-widely used "Best", Conroy -- whose 500 Comicbook Villains
sequel paperback is published in October -- commented, "I've
always been adamant that fans' or even creators' choices don't
necessarily make a title the BEST there is, as best is a somewhat
unquantifiable term. Whereas FAVOURITE is pretty self-
explanatory."

The voting forms are appearing in a range of comics-related
publications with the facility for online voting going live within
the next ten days. Watch this space.

[Editor's note: CBEM will provide information on how to vote
online when it becomes available. If you want to vote by mail a
copy of the official ballot in PDF format can be found on our web
site at:

The results will be announced and the prestigious Eagle Awards
presented to winners at Comic Expo, Ramada Plaza Hotel, Bristol,
England on November 5th, 2004.

GET PUBLISHED WITH NEW SCRYPTIC STUDIOS AND GEEKPUNK CONTEST

August 19, 2004 - So you're looking to have your story or art
published, but can't quite seem to crack into the majors?
Independent publisher, GEEKPUNK, has teamed with the popular
resource website for writers, SCRYPTIC STUDIOS, to bring you the
opportunity to finally see your name in print!

One lucky winner will be selected by HERO HAPPY HOUR creator, Dan
Taylor, to have his or her story published in GEEKPUNK's upcoming
HERO HAPPY HOUR SUPER SPECIAL 2005!

"Speaking from first hand experience, it's an uphill battle for
the would-be comic book writer to be published for the first
time," said Taylor.  "With HERO HAPPY HOUR I now have the ability
to offer a chance for these would-be comic book writers to get
their first publishing credit and their foot in the door.  The
first HERO HAPPY HOUR SUPER SPECIAL had stories contributed by a
handful of up and coming talents as well as the likes of Steve
Niles, Scott Morse, Todd Nauck, and Tom Beland."

What's the catch?  Only one ... you've got to register to win!
This contest is open to SCRYPTIC STUDIOS message board members
only, so if you want play, you've gotta stay!

Here are the rules:

. The contest is open only to members of the SCRYPTIC STUDIOS
message boards. You can join the boards at
http://www.scrypticstudios.com and register to win! Contestants
must provide their board user name to be eligible to win.

more.

. The story must take place within THE HIDEOUT BAR & GRILL. No

HOUR SUPER SPECIAL 2004 are excluded for obvious legal ownership
issues. You can find more about characters appearing in HERO
HAPPY HOUR at http://www.geekpunk.com.

. Keep all material PG-rated.

. Submit a complete two-to-four page script with at least one
page of unlettered sequential art that corresponds to at least
one of the pages from the script.

. The final art for the winning submission must be completed by

GeekPunk reserves the right to reward the prize of publication to
another.

. Any scripts submitted without an example of sequential art will
not be considered.

creator.

. The winning entry will be published in HERO HAPPY HOUR SUPER

http://www.scrypticstudios.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=843.

The contest deadline for having your script considered is
September 30, 2004. At least one page of sequential art that
corresponds with the submitted script must be included. Any
submissions without an accompanying art example will be
disqualified. Submissions should be emailed to
hhhss2005contest@geekpunk.com with attached script in doc or rtf
format with b/w or grayscale artwork in gif or jpg format.

The winning submission will be announced no later than
October 15, 2004.

"I think this contest is a great way to promote the goal of
SCRYPTIC STUDIOS; which is to get people writing and being
creative. Dan's created a wonderful cast of characters, and we're
very excited that he would let our members into his home to play
with his toys," said Scryptic member, Ryan Scott Ottney.

"With any luck, people won't just register and leave.  We're
hoping to gain some new friends on the SCRYPTIC STUDIOS message
board."
