eigoMANGA TV: eigoMANGA Television Programming Headed To National
Television

SAN FRANCISCO - TUN (The U Network), a new national cable network
catering towards university students will begin broadcasting
eigoMANGA's television program, ANIME MIX on its network starting
September 6, 2004.

ANIME MIX is a weekly anime news magazine television program that
incorporates a variety of topics targeting the anime/manga
industry in the US by providing the latest in unbiased anime news,
live event coverage, and exclusive interviews with leading
industry professionals. ANIME MIX was originally broadcasted on
San Francisco local cable television for three consecutive years.
ANIME MIX on TUN is eigoMANGA's first initiative to produce
original television programming for national broadcast.

The first set of episodes of ANIME MIX will cover anime events and
various university oriented anime events." We felt that ANIME MIX
was most appropriate on The U Network because the show is catered
towards a college audience", claims Austin Osueke, CEO of
eigoMANGA and executive producer of ANIME MIX. "The format for the
original ANIME MIX was most appealing to anime fans who were apart
of university anime clubs. They always gave us the most
contributing comments and critiques on what they want to watch
when it comes to a show about the anime industry. With the ANIME
MIX, we're trying to kill two birds with one stone; reach the
experienced anime fan audience and reach 'the trendsetters' of the
mainstream - both of these groups are college students."

SPIRIT FEATURE FILM
Odd Lot Entertainment has acquired the rights to produce a feature
film based on seminal superhero comic book, Will Eisner's THE
SPIRIT, in partnership with Batfilm Productions. Odd Lot's Gigi
Pritzker and Deborah Del Prete(HOOLIGANS/THE WEDDING PLANNER) will
produce the picture along with Batfilm's Michael Uslan (BATMAN
BEGINS/CATWOMAN/ CONSTANTINE). Executive Producers will be
Benjamin Melniker and Steve Maier. Co-Producers will be F.J.
DeSanto and Linda McDonough. Will Eisner's THE SPIRIT was created
in 1940 and is the story of a masked detective - believed to be
dead and operating out of a wildwood cemetery - who fights crime
in Central City with his fists, cunning (a tongue-in-cheek sense
of the absurd), and unbelievable tolerance for punishment. The
property is considered by many fans and comic book historians to
be the best creative work ever to come from the comic book
industry in the last 70 years. Will Eisner is the comic-genre
master storyteller, whose name graces the comic industry's most
prestigious awards each year at Comicon - The Eisner Awards.

Will Eisner, currently living in Florida, says, "I'm pleased to
see that a film adaptation of THE SPIRIT will be produced by so
experienced a creative team as Michael, Deborah and Gigi. This is
an important event in the history of the comic book character,
with which I have been closely identified." The intention for the
adaptation is to create a handsomely crafted, stylized,
character-driven tale. Additionally, it is a perfect match for the
visual medium of film as Eisner's drawings were groundbreaking in
incorporating cinematic camera angles and atmospheric lighting
effects.

Odd Lot Entertainment was represented in the deal by Laura Ivey,
Sr. Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs.

HERITAGE DAVE COCKRUM AUCTION RAISES CLOSE TO $25K

Heritage Comics Auctions (HCA) held a benefit auction for
legendary comics creator Dave Cockrum as part of their WizardWorld
Chicago 2004 sale. 101 individual lots of original art, donated by
some of the field's most popular creators, raised $24,581.25 for
Cockrum, whose near-fatal brush with diabetes and pneumonia
resulted in astronomical medical bills.

"We were thrilled to be a part of this important effort," said
John Petty, HCA's Director of Auctions. "This was a true
grassroots effort, spearheaded by Neal Adams and Clifford Meth,
who collected the art for inclusion in a tribute book published by
Aardwolf Press. When they asked us to handle the auction end of
the event, we jumped at the chance."

"This whole effort really was a labor of love," added David Tosh,
HCA Cataloger. "Dave Cockrum has been an important voice in the
comics industry for many years, and it's a pleasure to have an
opportunity to give something back to him."

Each piece in the auction was more stunning than the one before
it, so it's hard to pick out highlights. However, some of the most
hotly contested pieces were the Travis Charest Nightcrawler
Painting which realized 2,817.50, the Jim Lee Futurians pin-up,
which brought $1,495, and the Walt Simonson X-Men/Legion of
Superheroes extravaganza which fetched an impressive $2,990.

Hammer price on the 101 lots totaled $21,375 and, adding on the
15% Buyer's Premium, which will also be donated to Dave, the total
climbed to $24,581.25.

"Personally, I was extremely pleased to see the support, both from
the artists that contributed pieces and from the bidders who
bought them, for such a great cause," continued Petty. "I hope
that this can bring Dave a little well-deserved peace of mind, and
that it helps in some small way to speed him on his road to
recovery."

DF TO REPRINT TRUMAN'S SCOUT

Adding another classic property to their growing and impressive
roster, Dynamic Forces, Inc. announced today that they had struck
a deal with creator/writer/artist Timothy Truman in regards to his
masterwork - Scout!

Items planned for production include: Scout Collections, Posters,
Lithographs, Statues, and Action Figures.

Scout, originally published by Eclipse Comics between the years of
1985 through 1989, told the story of Emanuel Santana, an Apache
warrior doing battle with crooked bureaucrats and mythological
monsters in a post holocaust United States.

The title earned several fan nominations for "Best New Series" and
"Favorite Artist," and won a Spanish "Haxtur" Award. Scout proved
to be popular and influential. Native American readers and
educators have applauded the book for its respectful, but non-
patronizing portrayal of Southwestern Indian culture and beliefs.
Because various names, issue titles, plots, and themes in the book
frequently paid tribute to rock and blues music and musicians,
SCOUT was also a favorite comic book of rock musicians like Jerry
Garcia and Carlos Santana, both of whom Truman would later have
the privilege of working with.

"Tim is a giant in the field, both as a creator, and as an
artist," said Dynamic Forces President Nick Barrucci. "I'm
extremely proud to add Scout to our list of DF Definitive
Editions, and looking forward to re-presenting this powerful,
landmark series - as well as new Scout merchandise -- to a whole
new group of fans!"

"I'm very proud of Scout," Timothy Truman said. "He was very
influential on 1980s comics. He's really the sum of many
influences. Along with GrimJack, Scout is probably the work that
most defined my style.

"Let Neo-cons beware -- Scout is back!" Truman warned.

"We're extremely pleased that we can bring Scout back to a new
audience," Arrogant/MGMS head Mike Gold stated. "This is a vital
project, and among Tim Truman's very best work in his career. We
are very pleased that we can join forces with Nick Barrucci and
Dynamic Forces to help make this happen."

IDW'S RETURN TO BARROW TO BE HC ED. & SC ED.

IDW Publishing To Release 30 Days Of Night: Return To Barrow
Collection To Be Published As A Trade Paperback As Well As
Hardcover

San Diego, CA (Date) The latest saga in Steve Niles and Ben
Templesmith's vampire universe, 30 Days Of Night: Return To
Barrow is being collected in two bookshelf-ready editions: a
trade paperback and a hardcover version.

30 Days Of Night was one of the undisputed success stories of
modern comics, spawning a best-selling trade paperback, a major
motion picture deal and the attention of fans longing for an
innovative tale of modern terror.

Wizard Magazine named 30 Days Of Night its Breakout Event of the
Year in 2003. Now the creators of that book, Steve Niles and Ben
Templesmith, revisit Barrow, Alaska, the town where it all began.
As the long night creeps once more over the tundra, some things
may have changed, but the horror remains.

"After Dark Days moved the action to Los Angeles, fans of 30 Days
of Night wondered what shape Barrow was in after the initial
vampire attacks," said Chris Ryall, IDW's editor-in-chief. "Well,
in Return to Barrow, they get their answer, and I don't think it
was what anyone expected."

Both the trade paperback and hardcover editions collect all six
issues of the spine-tingling series under a suitably moody Ben
Templesmith cover.

R. Crumb to recount Genesis for Norton

Comics legend R. Crumb has signed with W.W. Norton to create a new
non fiction graphic novel, according to Publishers Weekly. The
book was acquired by Bob Weil, executive editor at W. W. Norton,
who called it a "major deal." Weil observes, "the graphic novel
and the graphic history are becoming essential components of a
well-balanced list." Weil says he anticipated "great interest" in
the work from the domestic, foreign and college markets. Both Weil
and Hanson declined--at the insistence of Crumb, NewsLine was
told--to reveal the book's subject. But industry sources say the
book will be a "literal" interpretation of Genesis, the first book
of the Bible.

Norton is also publishing Will Eisner's upcoming book on the
Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

The Crumb deal represents the latest in a surge of cartoonists
signing book deals with "traditional" book publishers. Where will
it all end?
