"Merry, Merry, Freakin' Christmas!"

Heh, heh - if you have heard it you know what that is all about.

Can we please stop talking about RED and BLUE states and just
concentrate on the seasonal RED and GREEN?

Notice how people are finally speaking up about the continued
use of the "PC" terms "Happy Holidays" and "Season's Greetings"?
Do we really need to call a Christmas tree a Holiday Tree?

I make a point of saying MERRY CHRISTMAS every chance I get. I
don't care if you are Jewish or Arab, Agnostic or Atheist, or
anything else. I celebrate CHRISTMAS - in many senses of the
word and it is not JUST a religious celebration. The wish carries
with it the best intentions that indeed stem from the origins
when it was proclaimed "PEACE ON EARTH and GOOD WILL TO ALL". If
you do not want to be reminded of that concept because you are
afraid of my religious beliefs I can't help you. PLEASE, my
fellow Christians, do not be afraid of offending people. I have
never had anyone tell me they were uncomfortable or confronted me
with a "how dare you" or some such, just because I said Merry
Christmas. If they did I would just say I am wishing you well
and will say an extra prayer that you will find peace. It may be
different in other countries where our readers are but in the US
we are supposed to be guaranteed Freedom of Religion NOT Freedom
"from" Religion.

I'd better stop now before I get way off topic.

Here is something from the good folks at Archie to share with
the little ones on Christmas. The sign off is what I am most
pleased about.

Seasons Greetings friends and co-workers,

Per tradition, I wrote and drew an elaborate story card to share
with you!

But this year, I've decided to save money on toner, stamps and
envelopes-- and instead posted the card on this new hi-tech
interweb thing the kids are using these days. This way you don't
have to feel bad about throwing it in the trash after you read
it ;)

Subject: Hey! Sabrina writer/artist interviewed on radio and
         internet
Date: Sun, 19 Dec 2004 13:00:45 -0500

Hi, folks,

Please post and forward to appropriate chat rooms, web pages and
e-lists! This will be live on the internet, too.

Another comics-oriented show coming up this Tuesday
overnight.

The next installment of 'Nuff Said!, the sporadic radio show
about comic books, will be overnight on Tuesday, Dec. 21
(technically early in the morning on Wednesday the 22nd) from
5:00 AM to 6:00 AM.  I again substitute for Susan Brown's show,
"Punk and Hardcore," starting with hard rock music (including
punk, metal and new wave) at 3:30 and then playing Mercy Van
Vlack interviewing Archie Comics' Sabrina the Teen-Age Witch
writer / penciller Tania Del Rio from a recent Big Apple Con.

For those of you in the listening area who won't be up that
late, you can tape the radio using a vcr by simply connecting
the input of your vcr to the output of your stereo.  There is a
more detailed description of this on our web site:
http://www.comicbookradioshow.com/vcr.html.  If there is a way
to record a live stream using a pc, please let me know.

I've been doing comic book-oriented radio shows since 1993,
live-streamed over the internet for the past several years,
usually interviewing a creator.  I've covered all styles and all
eras, pointing out the diversity of the art form to a radio
audience who was often unaware of the versatility of sequential
art.  I used to be weekly, but for over two years I have done
frequent specials, fill-ins and guest stints, keeping the show
alive (see http://www.comicbookradioshow.com/nsgl17.html for a
recent list and links to the past Guest Lists).  Many other WBAI
producers, especially Susan Brown and Sidney Smith, have
welcomed 'Nuff Said! segments on their shows and I can't thank
them enough.  I've been in many different time slots recently,
especially on Tuesdays; check the web site.

WBAI-FM, 99.5, is a 50,000 watt station broadcast from the
Empire State Building.  The signal usually gets out to New Haven,
CT; Westhampton, L.I.; the Poconos of Pennsylvania, Orange
County, NY and Trenton & Princeton, NJ. But via the internet for
an even greater distance, natch.  WBAI-FM is a
listener-supported Pacifica Network station.
Bernard White, the program director, said on the air June of
2002, soon after the last regular episode, that 'Nuff Said! was
not canceled, just put "on hiatus," but when he brought out a
new schedule 'Nuff Said! was absent from it.  However, that new
schedule has not gone into effect, so it can still be changed.
Among his criticisms of comic books are that they are "narrow-
focused" and only appeal to "middle-class white males."  Even
mainstream comics don't deserve those criticisms (except for
"male") and nearly every African-American who works at the
station is into comics and has told him so, sometimes on the air.
It seems to fall on deaf ears.  He can add to his criticism the
recent lack of membership support, despite an earlier track
record to the contrary.  And yet, here I am still on the air
talking to comic book creators and fans, just not with a regular
schedule and usually in the middle of the night.  I might be on
again in four weeks. Check the web site often, especially on a
Tuesday.  Please spread the word!

Fannishly,
Ken Gale, producer, interviewer and host

HOLIDAY FACELIFT FOR SUNNYFUNDAYS.COM
Insight Studios Group Website Gets New Strips

Better than Botox! INSIGHT STUDIOS is bringing new strips to all
the good little boys and girls who come to SunnyFundays.com for
their daily dose of online entertainment. Starting December
20th, the Sunny Fundays will feature new continuing stories, new
one- shots, and a host of holiday features, such as the
FRANKENSTEIN MOBSTER'S "FRANKENSTEIN SANTA" holiday greeting card
and the CRYPTOZOO CREW'S "TWELVE DAYS OF CRYPTIDS". Feel free to
sing along! CRYPTOZOO CREW has been a popular web strip and will
be following this up with a bi-monthly comic book from NBM
Publishing, with the first issue due out in January.

HOLLYWEIRD is a new ongoing daily strip being premiered on the
Sunny Fundays by entertainment executive Mark Simon. It takes a
sarcastic and skewed view of the movies from behind the scenes.
The comedy is derived directly from true events, either from
Simon's experience, or Hollywood lore. Mark has worked in the
entertainment industry for 19 years, with a background in live-
action and animation production, directing, designing and
effects, so he's seen it all!

In the holiday spirit, there will also be an exciting adaptation
of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" done by up and coming
"Insighter" Tim Wallace. Tim will tell the story in 4 weeks. If
this whets your appetite for the holidays, let filmmaker Robert
Tinnell cook up Christmas dinner with his recipes from his
delicious FEAST OF THE SEVEN FISHES strip.

Meanwhile, straight from the recently published OUTPATIENT
graphic novel, Image Comics' DOCTOR CYBORG will be running
"Time's Tower". In this bizarre month-long episode, Malcolm
Syberg discovers an invisible boy named "Invisi-billy", a cult of
futuristic scientists who have outlawed ties and a culture where
political correctness has gone homicidal.

All this and more this holiday season at the Sunny Fundays. And
don't worry if you've missed a few days. The archives provide you
with TIVO-like on-demand 24-hour service.

Insight Studios Group, headed by Mark Wheatley, creates comics
for other publishers and also publishes books, comic books, and
on-line daily and weekly comic strips under its own imprint. In
addition to the recent Image Comics hits Hammer of the Gods and
Hammer of the Gods: Hammer Hits China, Insight has played home to
Naked Brain, Jimgrim and the Devil at Ludd, Titanic Tales, and Al
Williamson Adventures. Visit www.insightstudiosgroup.com and

RISING STARS AND LIONEL ZERB HAUNT TOP COW!

Top Cow Productions will release Rising Stars: Voices of the Dead
April of 2005, with writer Fiona Avery (Amazing Fantasy, Amazing
Spider-Man) and penciler Staz Johnson (Spider-Man/Doctor
Octopus). Rising Stars: Voices of the Dead is a spin-off to the
much acclaimed Rising Stars series by J. Michael Straczynski, and
concentrates on the largely overlooked story of Lionel Zerb who
until now, was always considered a freak in the Rising Stars
universe.

As a direct conduit to the dead, Lionel Zerb helps as a Ghost
Interpreter, helping people deal with hauntings and other
"spirit" cases. But one day, Zerb stumbles upon a force greater
than he ever expected, and is forced to confront an ancient
spiritual power that brings him closer to an understanding about
the mysteries of the universe, and near his own death.

"I hope to give some play to the world of Lionel Zerb, which
feels like a whole universe unto itself, set within the greater
Rising Stars world," says writer Fiona Avery. "Lionel's gift, the
ability to speak with the dead, has been a great opportunity to
explore a facet of myth that has always haunted readers; from
Ebenezer Scrooge's ghosts of Christmas to The Sixth Sense".

"Fiona Avery has a great 'voice' for the Rising Stars characters,
and Lionel Zerb is one of the most interesting and complex of the
bunch. Just as a reader, I'm very much looking forward to this
series," says Top Cow editor in chief, Jim McLauchlin.
