ROY THOMAS'S ANTHEM SCHEDULED FOR JANUARY 2006

Heroic Publishing has announced a January 2006 release date for
the first issue of Roy Thomas's new alternate-reality World War
II adventure comic book, ANTHEM.

ANTHEM, by Roy Thomas and artists Daniel Acuna and Jorge
Santamaria Garcia, is a darker saga of an alternate Earth, and of
the super-heroes who were created to save it. In this world,
Pearl Harbor wasn't just an attack by Japanese planes on a sleepy
Hawaiian base. It was a full-blown assault on the US West Coast
by Imperial Japanese forces spearheaded by a towering monster
that could mop up the ocean with Godzilla, and on the East Coast
by Nazi shock troops . . . and ray-firing flying saucers!
Driven back into the American interior, the desperate US
survivors spawned Project Anthem, creating a handful of young
superheroes, some of whose powers and names reflected the words
of "The Star-Spangled Banner": Dawns Earlylight, Amerindian
super-archeress; Stars & Stripes, two twins with very special
abilities; "Rockets" Redglare, a flaming human rocket; BombBurst,
a very explosive warrior; Liberty, a living incarnation of the
proud statue the enemy destroyed in New York Harbor; and
Stonewall Jackson, a living being of rock from south of the
Mason-Dixon line. Led by the mysterious Agent 76, they battle the
forces that have conquered Europe and Asia and now mean to
trample America as the last hold-out of freedom. And they've got
the power to do it!

Only thing is, the Axis forces have been devoping super-beings of
their own, and they have an ace up their sleeve that will give
even Agent 76 and the young heroes of Anthem a run for their
money.

A preview of the first issue of ANTHEM can be found on the Heroic
Publishing website at www.heroicpub.com/previews/anthem1.php.

TRUE BELIEVER ALERT 5-31-2005

Captain America, Dream Police, and FF Movie!

CAPTAIN AMERICA 6 flips out.

With the jaw-dropping answer to "Who killed the Red Skull?", Ed
Brubaker and Steve Epting's Captain America 6 is white-hot. Both
fan and retailer demand for the issue has already warranted
Marvel to produce a "flip" variant edition -- with Epting
reworking his original cover into a mirror image reflecting the
issue's major reveal.

"I've just been overwhelmed by the response to Captain America so
far, with issue 6, that just went through the roof," says series
scribe Ed Brubaker. "And the best thing about it is that I know
where this is all going, Steve and I have a great ride in store
for the fans...I'm psyched to see Steve's brilliant flip
variation on the original Cap 6 cover. I can't wait to have both
issues myself!"

The Captain America #6 regular edition -- the conclusion to the
"OUT OF TIME" arc -- hit store shelves on 5/25.

.the Captain America #6 Limited Edition Variant goes on sale
6/22, with a Retailer FOC of 6/2.

 Straczynski's DREAM project.

The wait is over. Mega-popular writer J. Michael Straczynski's
DREAM POLICE one-shot will be released on June 22, 2005, as part
of Marvel Comics' ICON line. Its main characters, Detectives Joe
Thursday and Frank Stafford, are about to take center stage at
long last.

"Good things come to those that wait," says Marvel Editor-in-
Chief Joe Quesada. "And a new book by JMS is one heckuva good
thing to wait for. But we shall tarry no more: it's here!
Marvel's been bursting at the seams to share this story with the
rest of the world and now we can. The only downside is that J.
Michael's gonna get even more acclaim from this book and I'm
going to have to finally learn how to spell his name!"
But what is DREAM POLICE exactly? "What I love most about the
book is the tone -- very noir, very 'Dragnet' meets 'Men In
Black' meets 'Maltese Falcon' -- set against a surreal and often
very funny dreamscape," says Straczynski, "The art by Mike
Deodato is just sterling, it perfectly captures the film noir
look I wanted for the book, dark, moody, shadowed, but full of
striking characters and beautiful backgrounds.  It looks like a
slightly deranged 1950s hardboiled detective comic...AND a
fantasy book at the same time, and that's a very hard balance to
strike."

Adds Marvel's Executive Editor Axel Alonso, DREAM POLICE
exemplifies what fans have come to expect from Marvel's Icon
Line: Smart, edgy fiction with daring visuals, brought to you by
some of today's top creators.and I don't think that this is the
last anyone will be seeing of Detectives Joe Thursday and Frank
Stanford."

VAUGHN X-ITS X-MEN 3

Matthew Vaughn has quit as director of 20th Century Fox's third
X-Men film just two months before production was scheduled to
begin, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Vaughn cited family
matters as the reason for his departure.

In a statement, Fox said the London-based Vaughn had planned to
travel between his home and the film's Vancouver, B.C.,
locations, but "as the shooting schedule evolved, he realized he
would have to move to Los Angeles and Vancouver for at least a
year. Not wishing to uproot his family for an extended period,
Vaughn opted to depart the production."

"We have a fantastic script, the original cast is returning, and
there will be some great new characters," Fox president Hutch
Parker said. "We will decide shortly among several directors who
are keenly interested in the project and are fully committed to
remaining right on schedule."

The Marvel superhero sequel would have marked the first big-
budget studio project for Vaughn, who made his directing debut
with the gangster tale Layer Cake. Vaughn also produced Guy
Ritchie's crime movies Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and
Snatch.

Fox reportedly remains committed to remaining on schedule for a
May 26, 2006 theatrical release. Production is still set to begin
on August 2.

MAKE MHAN BATGIRL!

Artist Pop Mhan has announced on his official Website that he is
taking over as regular series artist on DC's Batgirl as of
October's issue #69.

In a post discussing his recent hiring of an assistant to help
him with the increased workload, Mhan wrote, "It's because I just
took over Batgirl as of issue #69. So, since I gotta do both
Batgirl and BLANK at the same time, it's only logical to get some
help, right? RIGHT!"

Mhan most recently filled in on February's Batgirl #61, and is
also scheduled to draw June's issue #65.

Meanwhile, outgoing artist Ale Garza responded to the change at
fellow artist Jim Lee's Blog on Sunday, saying, "It would seem
that it's been discovered that I'm no longer drawing Batgirl.
Mewwww, I know. But fear not for I have found a new job! I am
giving my lifelong dream of working at Target a shot!!! I just
love red shirts and khaki pants!

No, but seriously. I wasn't planning on saying anything for
awhile but the new artist, Pop Mhan announced it on his website
and kinda outed me, doh! As to the reason for leaving? Well, I
just wanted to be fair with the title. My schedule over the past
few months has become a little more crazy, no d-zout! And the
rigors of a monthly title just became too much.

I do however have some new projects in the works. And with them,
time! I'm really hoping to go fer all the marbles over the next
couple years! Can't say much about it other than it will be
wicked awesome! No d-zout! So keep you're eyes peeled kiddies, I
really think you'll all dig the new digs! No d-zout!"

'BEGIN THE BATMAN BEGINS 400' PROMOTION CHANCE-OF-A-LIFETIME PUTS
GREEN FLAG IN THE HANDS OF A FAN AT MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL
SPEEDWAY

Gotham City will meet the Motor City when the Batmobile takes to
the track at Michigan International Speedway for the Batman
Begins 400 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race on June 19. Warner Bros.
Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Comics, and Michigan
International Speedway (MIS) announced that one lucky fan will
win the chance of a lifetime to drop the green flag to start the
race by entering the "Begin the Batman Begins 400 at MIS"
promotion. The promotion will run from May 23-June 6.

The "Begin the Batman Begins 400 at MIS", a partnership between
Warner Bros. Consumer Products, DC Comics, Michigan International
Speedway (MIS), NASCAR.com, racingone.com, speedtv.com, and the
group of Knight-Ridder Digital websites, will offer one person
the incredible opportunity of dropping the green flag to start
the race as the 43 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series cars rumble to the
starting line.

The announcement was made at Richmond International Raceway by
NASCAR star Mark Martin, who will pilot a Batman Begins-themed
Ford in the Batman Begins 400, and MIS President Brett Shelton.
The Batman Begins 400 marks the first time a major motion picture
has served as the entitlement sponsor of a NASCAR NEXTEL Cup
Series event. Batman Begins, the highly anticipated film from
Warner Bros., opens worldwide on June 15.

The "Begin the Batman Begins 400 at MIS" program will offer one
fan, chosen at random, the opportunity to not only wave the green
flag to start the Batman Begins 400, but also receive a VIP
racing experience at MIS. Fans can enter the program online at
www.begintherace.com.

"The entire Batman Begins 400 race weekend is going to be a very
exciting event, and we are pleased to be able to give this once-
in-a-lifetime opportunity to start the race back to NASCAR fans
with this promotion," said Dan Romanelli, President, Warner Bros.
Worldwide Consumer Products.

"At Michigan International Speedway, we pride ourselves in
providing a rewarding experience for all of our fans," said
Shelton. "The 'Begin the Batman Begins 400 at MIS' program takes
it to another level, and we are happy to help provide this
tremendous opportunity."

Race fans will have a front-row seat for a one-of-a-kind
celebration of the film's launch when the Batmobile from the film
leads the pack of 43 race cars off of pit road to start the
battle for the checkered flag.

Besides the on-track action that fans will be able to enjoy
during the weekend, the newly redesigned AAA Motorsports Fan
Plaza behind the main grandstand at Michigan International
Speedway will incorporate the Batman Begins Fan Zone, which will
feature the Batmobile from the film, Mark Martin's Batman Begins
themed car, the Ricky Craven truck, and the fantasy and event
cars that are part of the weekend's Batman action. The Batman
Begins Fan Zone will also include other activities and exclusive
merchandise based on the film and the Batman Begins 400.

Roush Racing legend Mark Martin will get a little extra Batman
power to help him get to Victory Lane, as his Ford will feature a
special Batman Begins paint scheme for the race. Martin's fellow
Roush Racing driver, Ricky Craven, will also be sporting a Batman
Begins scheme during the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event on
June 18.

New DC Comics Role-Playing Game
From Black Industries

 May 31, 2005
Black Industries, the role-playing game imprint of Games
Workshop's BL Publishing, has signed a deal with DC Comics
to produce a brand new superhero role-playing game based on
the extensive catalog of characters in the DC Universe.
The previous iteration of the DC RPG from West End Games
used West End's D6 system.

In announcing the deal with DC Comics, Black Industries did
not provide a debut date for the new RPG line, but did
indicate that it would include a series of books and
accessories.  No word on whether the game will be designed
by the Green Ronin team that did the best-selling Warhammer
Fantasy RPG.

Currently WizKids produces a DC Comics-based collectible
miniatures game (CMG, HeroClix) and Upper Deck publishes a
DC-based collectible card game (CCG).

POW! to Create Superhero for VIBE
Stan Lee's Urban Vision
 May 31, 2005
Stan Lee's POW! Entertainment is partnering with VIBE Magazine to
create an urban superhero whose adventures will be chronicled in
the pages of VIBE and also published in graphic novel
collections.  The hip hop hero is currently in development and
will debut in early 2006 in VIBE, but his creators hope to expand
the concept to include an animated TV series and potential
feature films.  The character will be targeted at 15 to 34-year-
old males who love comic books, action movies, and videogames.

POW's Stan Lee, the co-creator of Spider-Man and much of the
Marvel Universe, will provide the creative inspiration, while
exposure in VIBE will furnish unfettered access to the urban
market.  VIBE and POW! will share in ownership of the new hip hop
hero, who the companies hope will quickly morph into a powerful
entertainment franchise.

we go:

Triple X Casting

With Kelsey Grammer as the Beast (or at least the voice of the
Beast) in the upcoming X3 movie, casting is now underway for the
coveted roles of Gambit and the Angel.

Sources close to the set state that the studio wants a big name
for Gambit, and that the role of Angel will be played by a woman
since they are basing that character on the version Grant
Morrison created during his X-men run.

Wrath Management

DC is planning a new Spectre series after the Day of Vengeance
mini series wraps up. No news as to who the human host for the
Wrath of God will be, but in terms of creative team, both Greg
Rucka and John Byrne have had their names come up in conjunction
with the new series.

up in August.

The special self contained issue will be set in World War 2 and
