to be included in our publication.

PLEASE, no material on gaming, non-comic derived media, role

Dear God, deliver us from this madness - this evil. Our thoughts
and prayers are with the folks in England, especially the victims
and their loved ones. We stand with you as you stood with us.

Some random thoughts this week. I stopped in a store I drove by
today, as I am wont to do in my travels around New England. I saw
on the racks of this particular store the latest issue of HOUSE OF
M. Among the regular issues was a bagged and boarded copy of the
same with an alternate cover. That issue had a price tag of $35 on
it. Now these alternates, as I understand it, are dealer
incentives. They get one for so many of the title in question they
buy. The variants, I believe are like one in 15 or 20, which is
not all that scarce. When I saw this one being offered at a
premium I was reminded of the times about a decade ago when
Marvel, and others, used these "incentives" to spike sales. It
appeals to the greed of those who would use them to appeal to the
greedy speculators who would buy them hoping they would soon be
worth even more. In the end the whole thing came crashing down
when the pyramid could not sustain itself.  Does Marvel really
think it will help to stimulate speculation again?

I appeal to those dealers who get these as a matter of course due
to their ordering quantities to use them as a positive thing.
Reward your loyal customers with these alternates for cover price.
If they choose to then try to make money on them, well that is
beyond your control. Just don't start the cycle yourself.

I've been reading mixed reviews on the FF movie. Caught the X-MEN
on Fox Thursday and it was wall to wall previews of FF for
commercials. I'll see it in a week or so and judge it then.

This is the week when the San Diego Comic Con horde descends on
that fair city. Once again yours truly is a continent away getting
all the news and gossip through the magic of the internet and
passing it along to our loyal readers.  Be here next time for the
first reports.

Meanwhile, stock up on these new comics

Subject: Next comic book radio show soon
Date: Fri, 8 Jul 2005 15:51:49 -0400

Hi, folks,

Please post and forward to appropriate chat rooms, web pages and
e-lists! This will be live on the internet, too.

The next installment of 'Nuff Said!, the Brigadoon of comic
book radio shows, will be overnight Tuesday, July 19th
(technically early in the morning on Wednesday the 20th) from 3:30
AM to 6:00 AM eastern time.  I again substitute for Susan Brown's
overnight show, "Punk and Hardcore."  I'm still confirming guests
and there is the added wrinkle of it being a membership drive for
WBAI-FM.  I'm hoping to have a premium this time.

For those of you in the listening area who won't be up that
late, you can tape the radio using a vcr by simply connecting the
input of your vcr to the output of your stereo.  There is a more
detailed description of this on our web site:
http://www.comicbookradioshow.com/vcr.html.  There is also
software that enables you do record the live stream off your
computer.

I've been doing comic book-oriented radio shows since 1993,
live-streamed over the internet for the past several years,
usually interviewing a creator.  I've covered all styles and all
eras, pointing out the diversity of the art form to a radio
audience who was often unaware of the versatility of sequential
art.  I used to be weekly, but since 2002 I have done frequent
specials, fill-ins and guest stints, keeping the show alive (see
http://www.comicbookradioshow.com/nsgl17.html for a recent list
and links to the past Guest Lists).  Many other WBAI producers,
especially Susan Brown and Sidney Smith, have welcomed 'Nuff Said!
segments on their shows and I can't thank them enough. I've been
in many different time slots, especially on Tuesdays; check the
web site.

WBAI-FM, 99.5, is a 50,000 watt station broadcast from the Empire
State Building.  The signal usually gets out to New Haven, CT;
Westhampton, L.I.; the Poconos of Pennsylvania, Orange County, NY
and Trenton & Princeton, NJ, although there seems to have been
signal or transmitter problems lately. But via the internet for an
even greater distance, natch.  WBAI-FM is a listener-supported
Pacifica Network station.
Bernard White, the program director, said on the air June of
2002, soon after the last regular episode, that 'Nuff Said! was
not canceled, just put "on hiatus," but when he last brought out
a new schedule 'Nuff Said! was absent from it.  There are rumors
that a new schedule will be revealed Real Soon Now.  However, that
new schedule has not come out, so it can still be changed. Among
his criticisms of comic books are that they are "narrow- focused"
and only appeal to "middle-class white males."  Even mainstream
comics don't deserve those criticisms (except for "male") and
nearly every African-American who works at the station is into
comics and has told him so, sometimes on the air.  It seems to
fall on deaf ears.  And yet, here I am still on the air talking to
comic book creators and fans, just not with a predictable schedule
and usually in the middle of the night. Check the web site often,
especially on a Tuesday.
Please spread the word!  Even if you're not in the area, you
can still listen in via the net.  Thanks.

Fannishly,
Ken Gale, producer, interviewer and host

question.

LAST ISSUE'S QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

One character debuted in the first BLACKHAWK series #112; the
other in INFINITY INCORPORATED. They are linked in a unique way by
their names. Do you know why?

This was not so easy, unless you have a copy of BLACKHAWK #112 and
see that the character "A" first appeared there. From that you
could infer a character beginning with the letter Z is the other,
and you would be right. ZZLRRRZZZM first appeared in INFINITY
INCORPORATED #41. From A to Z these are the ends of the list of DC
Universe characters in alphabetical order.

MIDNIGHT SHOW UNLEASHES ZOMBIE PLAGUE WORLDWIDE!
INTERNATIONAL ENTERPRISE NAMED AS ACCESSORY

G.R.A.V.E. GRRRLS: DESTROYERS OF THE DEAD and PROJECT: BORN AGAIN
offer chilling zombie action through International Enterprise

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact:  Tim Hegarty - Tim.Hegarty@gmail.com
                   www.InternationalEnterprise.org

JUNE 29, 2005 - ORANGE, CA - When there's no more room in Hell,
the Dead will wish there was....  And when there's no more room in
America, MIDNIGHT SHOW PRODUCTIONS will spread the horror of
their G.R.A.V.E. GRRRLS series and PROJECT: BORN AGAIN one-shot
around the world with the services of International Enterprise.

"We're happy to have International Enterprise spread the zombie
plague around the globe," comments Scott Licina and Ken Wolak,
publishers of Midnight Show and creators of G.R.A.V.E. GRRRLS:
DESTROYERS OF THE DEAD and PROJECT: BORN AGAIN.  "Support for the
Grrrls' first series has been phenomenal in the States, so we're
really excited to see the world-wide reaction to our little
horror show."

The critically acclaimed G.R.A.V.E. GRRRLS: DESTROYERS OF THE
DEAD mini-series has been featured in Vampirella, Fangoria and
Rue Morgue as well as various other magazines and online media
outlets.  In the first three-issue story arc, the dead are coming
back to life with an insatiable hunger for human flesh, and its
up to three "enhanced" female government operatives to save
humanity from the clutches of the zombie plague and put the dead
back to bed. The PROJECT: BORN AGAIN one-shot looks at the zombie
plague from a different perspective - that of everyday, normal
people.  Similar in tone to THE WALKING DEAD, this 32 pages of
story companion one-shot goes a step further with full color,
incredibly gory mind-bending art in the style of Michael
Turner.

Special covers have been provided for DESTROYERS OF THE DEAD by
such industry top-dogs as ALEX ROSS, JUSTINIANO and JOSEPH
MICHAEL LINSNER.

"Its easy to see the excitement and care put into these books by
their creators," observes Tim Hegarty, International Rights
Manager.  "You can tell by just reading a page this is truly what
[Scott and Ken] wanted to do, and their final product is as
entertaining to read as it is impressive to see."

Both titles are written by Scott Licina, with full color artwork
by Ken Wolak (with Ollie Nome handling the art chores on Project:
Born Again, again colored by Wolak).  Licina is best known as a
composer for projects including the Earth X comic soundtrack for
ALEX ROSS and Marvel, Purgatori: The Vampire's Myth score for
CHAOS! Comics and Night of the Living Dead.  The MIDNIGHT SHOW
'Super-Horror' line is Scott's first foray into the world of
comic developing and scripting, while Wolak has been coloring
comics for 15 years on titles such as Wanted, The Ultimates,
Noble Causes, and the Phantom.  G.R.A.V.E. GRRRLS marks his
incredibly talented debut as a penciller, alongside inking and
coloring the series himself.

"There are some things in comics that are universally
translatable, things that interest readers in territories around
the world," Hegarty adds.  "And flesh-eating zombies and the
action contained in Midnight Show's titles are certainly among
them."

Both G.R.A.V.E. GRRRLS: DESTROYERS OF THE DEAD #1-3 and the
PROJECT: BORN AGAIN one-shot are currently available for
international publication in all territories around the world.

DIGITAL WEBBING MAKES THE GRADE
Digital Webbing and CGC announce new agreement

HAVERHILL, MA (July 5, 2005) - Digital Webbing is excited to name
the Comics Guaranty, LLC (CGC) as their official comic grading
service, making such comics as DIGITAL WEBBING PRESENTS,
BLOODRAYNE, and SWORD OF DRACULA available in CGC professional
grade.

Digital Webbing entered the publishing arena with an 'Internet
Collaborative' anthology showcasing aspiring and established
talent and published its first comic, DIGITAL WEBBING PRESENTS
#1, in December 2001. Since its debut DWP has attracted the
attention of such high profile creators such as Scott Morse,
Michael Moorcock, Eric Powell, Steve Niles, and Bernie Wrightson.

"I'm ecstatic to work with CGC." said Ed Dukeshire, owner of
Digital Webbing. "I am a regular on eBay and I know how hard it
is for our fans to find the best quality copies of our books.
Working with the professionals at CGC, our fans will get the best
as we add another strand to our web."

Now on issue #24, they have grown to include a new, never before
seen full color TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES story, along with
fan favorites such as BLOODRAYNE: based on the popular video
game, and soon to be a major motion picture - and the new full
color SWORD OF DRACULA series!

"We are very happy to add Digital Webbing to the list of
publishers we are now the official grading service of," said
Steve Borock, President and Primary Grader of CGC. "Not only are
they publishing some great comics, but their industry website is
growing by leaps and bounds."

CGC is an independent member of the Certified Collectibles Group
of companies: an umbrella organization consisting of Numismatic
Guaranty Corporation of America (NGC) the leading grading service
in rare coins, Sportscard Guaranty, LLC (SGC) the fastest growing
grading service in sportscards, and now CGC the first
independent, impartial, expert third party grading service in
comics.

13-YEAR OLD COMIC BOOK WRITER UNVEILS VIOLET ROSE

SAN DIEGO, CA - July 5, 2005:  While many 13-year olds are taking
their allowances to and buying the latest installment of their
favorite comic book, Emma Davis is busily providing them with new
stories to fill their imaginations.

Emma is the creator and writer of Blue Water Productions' VIOLET
ROSE; a supporting story now appearing at in THE LEGEND OF ISIS:
BEGINNINGS graphic novel - on sale now!  Now at age 14, Emma is
arguably the youngest comic book author in the industry.

"It's such a great opportunity," said Davis, "I really enjoy
writing and this was a great way for me to express myself. I am
really excited to finally be in print!"

VIOLET ROSE follows the adventures of a 6th grade heroine with
unusual powers. As Davis puts it, "It's a detective story about
girl who uses inherited telepathic powers that allows her to talk
and interact with inanimate objects. The first book is about a
field trip to a Winchester-like House gone bad, so Violet Rose
has to collaborate with the house with her powers."

According to Blue Water Productions president Darren Davis, and
Emma's uncle, the eight-page story is only the beginning for
Violet Rose. "There will be future issues of Violet Rose," said
Darren Davis. "Emma told me some of her ideas for a four-issue
mini-series, and I looking forward to publishing them. Her
writing keeps getting better and better."

Having just graduated from middle school, this 14-year old comic
book author is busily fleshing out her stories to be adapted into
a VIOLET ROSE limited series planned for next year.

Emma admits her stories aren't for the same audience most of the
other titles in the Blue Water universe attract. "It's definitely
for younger kids," she said. "I've written several stories about
Violet Rose and in future comics, or maybe even novels, we will
get to know her much better, kind of what J.K. Rowling did for
Harry Potter."

Emma is enjoying her moment of new-found celebrity. "My Language
Arts teacher asked me to autograph a copy of the comic," she
said. Emma has also been interviewed by Jazma Online and featured
on the Blue Water website. She can next be seen at ComicCon in
San Diego.

For more information on Emma, VIOLET ROSE, and other Blue Water
projects visit them online at http://www.bluewaterprod.com .
