Writer/Ad Coordinator Vince Brusio is the designated editorial writer for Previews' "The Splash Page" which is our source material Spider-Woman Cornered! How did it come to this? You think you're doing a good thing one minute. But then you find out it was all for nothing. Life is like that, some will tell you. True, but the consequences can vary, given who you are, and what responsibilities you juggle. These are the types of things that run through your mind when you're Captain America. You're the Star Spangled Avenger who's at the forefront of a new team of heroes that put everything on the line for the benefit of American citizens. And your leadership, your character, is what allows the American people to believe in you, and the team members you choose to stand beside you. So what happens when that trust is compromised? What goes through your head when you learn that all your hard work is trashed because you learn that someone is not on the same page as you, and this can bring you back to where you started? Imagine feeling that frustration. Yes, if you were Captain America, specifically, you thought you were doing a good thing by putting faith in Spider-Woman. But then you find out that she pulls the carpet out from under you, and she doesn't appear to have given it a second thought. You have to go to her. You have to make the effort. And this is what makes the job all the more harder. It's time for the big man to throw down, and let the readers get treated to a spectacle between Captain America and Spider-Woman in New Avengers #14, written by none other than Brian Michael Bendis. Temper, temper, temper, Cap! Yes, Spider-Woman pulled a double- deal on you. No, she didn't tell you about her powers coming back. Yes, it complicates your life, and makes you have to corner her to get to the real story. But cut to the chase. What you really want to know is who does she honor? To whom does she show allegiance? And can you get to the bottom of all of it in just one issue? The clock is working against you! If you think the consequences extend past New Avengers #14, you're right. More surprises await us in Bendis' mini-series Spider-Woman: Origin #1. The planned six-issue series will help bring light to the complexities of Spider-Woman, and hopefully give us a clue as to why she has Cap spinning on his head! Look for more details on New Avengers #14 and Spider-Woman: Origin #1 between the pages of Marvel Previews! More Cool Clamshell T-Shirts Usher in the fall season with new t-shirts in the Graphitti Designs and Apparel sections! It's DC's classic icons done by the man who recently gave us All Star Batman & Robin! Then the past, present and future all come together with the Zoom Symbol T-Shirt. Need to leave some tracks in the asphalt? Dress for the occasion! This shirt features the Reverse Flash symbol screenprinted in black and red on a yellow 100% cotton shirt. Other goodies wait for you in the Previews Apparel section. Let your shopping cart pull you in the direction of the navy Inu- Yasha: "Yin & Yang" Previews Exclusive T-Shirt. You won't find this baby at Wal-Mart. Next up, the Samurai Champloo: "Shadow" T- Shirt is exquisite eye candy for the anime and manga die-hard. Lastly, the Corpse Bride: "Skeleton Groupie" T-Shirt should delight all those fans who think Tim Burton should have his own theme park. Be sure to check out all of these shirts in the Graphitti and Apparel sections of Previews! Red Sonja Is Doomed! She may be good with a broadsword, but how qualified is Red Sonja to take on a being who purports to have lived several lives, over the course of 100,000 years? Comics fans have probably heard the name "Thulsa Doom." Those of you who were delighted with the movie Conan remember that James Earl Jones played the part of the merciless evil being who could change into a snake. But Thulsa Doom did not originate in that classic 80s flick. The character first appeared in Marvel Comics history way back in Monsters on the Prowl #16, which was published in April, 1972! Since his 70s debut, Thulsa Doom has had various enemies, ranging from Brule the Spear Slayer, to everyone's favorite Cimmerian, Conan, to the deadly Thoth Amon. But now the fiery-haired Red Sonja is in the bad guy's crosshairs. And it is a most uncomfortable place to be, given that this enemy is thought to be a pre-cataclysmic Atlantean sorcerer. He's had a lot of practice in making people miserable, so you can bet he looks forward to lots of fun given that Sonja is such a shapely adversary. Writers Luke Lieberman and Peter David, along with artist Will Conrad, bring us Red Sonja Vs. Thulsa Doom #1 this month from Dynamite Entertainment. Check it out - along with the alternate Fiery Red Foil High End Edition - in the Comics section of Previews! Stars Aligned at Boom! Studios Check out the madness going on at Boom! Studios this month, and you'll think you're at a Hollywood gala. Some big names are lending their talents to the publisher, and the stories that are served up for you to sample reek of charred flesh and viscera! If you're hungry for some old school horror that doesn't shy away from bloodshed, In the Blood #1 is one of the tastiest racks of ribs you'll gnaw, chew, and devour. Steve Niles is behind the carnage in this comic, which introduces us to an average high school student whose taste for human skin is not likely to win him any friends at parties, or after-school activities. So Mike Kane keeps busy, maintains a facade of normalcy around his buddies, and hopes that his nocturnal slaughters as a werewolf will not interfere with his homelife! Loss of human life, however, comes in many forms at Boom! Studios, as the other project slated for the month includes the return of the original Lobo team of Keith Giffen & Alan Grant! Their newest collaboration, Jeremiah Harm #1, pulls back the curtain on a new anti-hero that doesn't love you, doesn't want to be your friend, and doesn't want the label of "super-hero." Jeremiah Harm is the most wanted man in the universe, and the only reason why he's been freed is to eliminate three intergalactic fugitives. If you get in Harm's way, it's your own fault! Kiss your mortality goodbye! Look for both In the Blood #1 and Jeremiah Harm #1 in the Comics section of Previews! The First Family Rides Again! They were dubbed Marvel's first family. Bound to be comic book superstars because of their creators -Stan Lee and Jack 'King' Kirby - the Fantastic Four were something all-too familiar to its readers: here was a family that could bicker as much as they could pull together. But the FF were the ideal family. The family that you wanted around you at the barbecue. They were super- heroes with a pulse. And it was important for them to stick together because they would need each other when trouble came looking for them. In the Fantastic Four movie, trouble was never far away. In fact, it was breathing down their neck the moment they were bathed in cosmic radiation. Their colleague, Victor Von Doom, is a wolf in Brooks Brothers clothing, and he doesn't entertain the idea of birthday parties with his pals from the space flight . Victor wants people's heads on a stick, and he doesn't need your permission. Get it? Jessica Alba and company sure "get it" in the Fantastic Four DVD and Fantastic Four UMD. Doom must be stopped! Period! This latest film to star Marvel's heroes on the big screen gives comics fans a dream come true, and general moviegoers the thrill of a lifetime. Look for both versions of the FF movie in the Videos section of Previews! Hail to the King! With the highly anticipated big screen return of King Kong in Peter Jackson's remake of the film classic, Dark Horse will be releasing the official comic book adaptation of the movie this December. The King of the Island of the Skulls is ready to swing onto the paneled page, courtesy of writer Christian Gossett and artist Dustin Weaver. The story follows director Carl Denham, who has one chance to make the film of his dreams. Carl's not exactly the most generous person. Some would say he's a slimeball. Ethics are not in the man's vocabulary. And the truth is that to work on his shoestring budget, he hires an unknown actress, kidnaps his writer, and boards a tramp freighter for the South Pacific. A Royal Caribbean cruise is not in the cards when Carl's in charge of the pocketbook. When he arrives at the Island of the Skulls, Denham and his film crew encounter hostile natives. This makes you think that they either recognize slime when they see it (because there's a lot of bugs like Carl who want to use islands as cheap movie sets), or they're a primitive culture that doesn't have a use for the white man. White woman, on the other hand, is a different story. Actress Ann Darrow just might be the right ice cream that the natives use to satisfy their god. Ms. Darrow is, after all, a gorgeous blonde with baby doll eyes that would melt man or beast. So it's a good bet that she'll fit the menu. Without her consent, the lovely Ms. Darrow soon finds herself in the grasp of the island's undisputed lord and master. And the mighty King Kong isn't about to let a boyfriend or a Tyrannosaurus Rex take away his latest door prize! Following the typical format of Dark Horse movie adaptations like Serenity, this three issue mini-series captures all of the action, all of the romance, and all of the terror of the 8th Wonder of the World! Be sure to check out the first issue in the Dark Horse section of Previews! Bad Place at a Bad Time Thomas Jane made his mark in The Punisher. Here was a guy who could play it mean to the bone, and movie-goers were quite happy with how Jane made Frank Castle a walking, talking shotgun. Steve Niles made his mark with 30 Days of Night, and showed how he, too, was no stranger to violence when the vampires in his story took pleasure in mutilation. So what happens when you put these two boyscouts together in a playroom? The odds are that you won't come up with something suitable for children's programming on daytime television. But what you will get is one brutal comic book that will appeal to both horror and sci-fi fans. Thomas Jane and Steve Niles' Bad Planet is finally ready to hit stands this winter, and the title has found a home with the folks at Image Comics. After several changes, including artistic contribution and publisher, the highly anticipated collaboration will tell the story of arachnid predators from space that are threatening to knock mankind off the top of the food chain. But, in humanity's darkest hour, a lone alien warrior may be salvation. That is to say, if mankind doesn't kill him first! We have a history of killing those who help us. With amazing art from Lewis Larosa, Tim Bradstreet, and Grant Goleash, Bad Planet promises to be worth the wait for those of us who have huddled around the rumor mill. Holding off on a release until they had the right combination of talent, Jane and Niles are finally unveiling Bad Planet for comic fans who love the explosive chemistry you get when creators mix action, horror, and sci-fi! Be sure to check out Bad Planet in the Image Comics section of Previews! Best of the Rest Sure, you love to read reviews online about your favorite comic titles, but wouldn't it be nice to have something in print that you could mull over when its time to wind down for the night? Getting bug-eyed in front of the computer screen isn't a good way to end the day. But checking out The Year's Best Graphic Novels, Comics, & Manga is the perfect nightcap for readers who like informed opinions. Edited by Byron Preiss and Howard Zimmerman (with an introduction by Neil Gaiman), this 18-month retrospective on the year's best releases from the world of comics, graphic novels, and manga gives you the scoop on what's hot, and why you need to set aside more time under the reading lamp. The scope of The Year's Best Graphic Novels, Comics, & Manga covers both commercial and independent publishers, so you have an eclectic mix of literature to sample at leisure. Excerpts from books, as well as creator essays help flesh out the must-haves that came out June of 2003 through December of 2004. Covering everything from Craig Thompson's Blankets, Brian Wood and Becky Cloonen's Demo, to the Blacksad European breakout, The Year's Best Graphic Novels, Comics, & Manga can be found in the Books section of Previews! The Real World - First Draft Life is a movie itself. We don't need actors. We just need camcorders strapped to everyone's noggin. Then broadcast the video feeds across the Internet. We'd have a 24-hour movie fest! Or, something similar to what we see in the Demo Collection TP by Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan. Demo is unique in that the story follows people who have the misfortune of acquiring super powers. Yes, this line of storytelling asks you if you really comprehend the gravity of being "super human." Have you ever done the math? Because if you think it through, to have super powers means to put the needs of others ahead of your own needs (if you take responsibility for your gift). And that means you can give up on having any semblance of a normal life. Published by AIT/PlanetLar, Demo was Wizard Magazine's "Indy Book of the Year." And for good reason. Each original, stand-alone issue in the series focused on stories of conflicted young people grappling with love, coping with loss, and finding their way in life. Now the Eisner-nominated and critically-acclaimed 12-issue series of self-contained short stories is collected together in one volume. Look for Demo Collection TP in the Comics section! Apes Are Meant To Rule! If you're a fan of Planet of the Apes, then you'll be happy to know you won't have to wait 20+ years for another movie remake to enjoy the antics of talking simians. There's a new publisher on the scene who wants to pave new roads in the universe where humans are second class citizens. But the road is the one less traveled, because it means that people are going to get hurt. Change isn't easy, and so consequences can be deadly. Don't expect rose-covered gardens in Revolution on the Planet of the Apes, because revolution is hazardous to your health! And you won't be seeing pretty pictures anytime soon as you learn that the Planet of the Apes is in chaos! San Diego is in flames because the talking apes threaten nuclear armageddon! Caesar, Cornelius, Zaius, Zira, Taylor, and all of your other favorite classic characters are back in an all-new, six-issue mini-series from MR Comics that features two amazing stories of simian antics per issue. A plethora of creative talent that includes Ty Templeton, Joe O'Brien, Salgood Sam, Attila, Bernie Mireault, and Denis Rodier make this series one to put at the top of your checklist. Look for Revolution on the Planet of the Apes in the Comics section of Previews! Moonstone Goes Banzai It's true. People still remember The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. The year was 1984, and we were introduced to Peter Weller playing the lead character Buckaroo Banzai, who not only an adventurer, but a surgeon and rock musician as well. It was a combination unheard of back in the Reagan era. This guy Buckaroo Banzai and his band of men known as the Hong Kong Cavaliers had to take on evil alien invaders from the 8th Dimension. It was quite a spectacle, and a real head trip. But it was something most of us thought would be relegated to VHS, and nothing more. Well, we were wrong, dear readers. It seems that a lot more people got it than we thought, and Moonstone decided it was a good idea to publish a new mini-series called Buckaroo Banzai in Return of the Screw. The idea seemed like such a capital decision, the publisher put a green light on the Buckaroo Banzai Preview. With a cover cost of only 50c, who can say they were too strapped for cash to check out the surreal madness that is Buckaroo's lifestyle? Check out this exclusive preview book in the Comics section of Previews!
